Basic Blacksmithing: Coat Hanger Project November 7
With Travis Fleming of Fleming Iron Works. 722 Commercial Drive in Athens. 8:00AM-4:00PM. This class swill guide you through the basic blacksmithing techniques of forging metal using tools to hammer, bend, and shape. Students will learn basic safety, fire instruction, tapering, bending, twisting, spreading, rolling, punching, and riveting. All tools and equipment provided. No previous experience required. Athens-Limestone Veterans Parade November 7 Starting at Athens Middle School (100 U.S. Highway 31N in Athens) at 11:00AM. Sponsored by AARP. The parade will depart from the high school and travel west on Pryor Street to Shaw Street turning south to Hobbs Street before proceeding around the square and end at Hometown Center - AthensLimestone Public Library area. , Please practice social distancing and wear a mask when outside of your vehicle. Growing Up Wild - Terrific Turkeys November 10 Joe Wheeler State Park Marina. 4405 McLean Drive in Rogersville. 10:00AM-11:30AM. Wild Turkeys nearly became extince but with people such as hunters and wildlife biologist working to conserve them, there are now 7 million Wild Turkeys in North America. Come learn more and have a "gobble gobble" good time.
Veterans Day Program November 10
Calhoun Community College. Kelly Gymnasium, 6250 U.S. Highway 31N in Tanner. Dr. Joe Fitzgerald, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for North Alabama will be the speaker starting at 10:00AM. Dr. Fitzgerald is also the founder of the "Honor Flags" program that accompanies Honor Flight as well as the organizer of "Victory Day", a national observance of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. In addition to Dr. Fitzgerald's presentation, the program will include the annual music salute to veterans, performed by the Calhoun Jazz Band edu/cll or call 256-233-8260
