Welcome everyone to the July edition of Artists Down Under.
Winter is well and truly here now, lots of chilly foggy starts to the morning with grey overcast days, but not so much with our artists moods. Life is too short to worry about the weather when you have art to create and stories to tell. Besides those cold chilly days gives us all just another excuse to stay inside and create art .. too cold to go outside today, I better create some art.
This month we enjoy another tutorial from Andrew Haysom, this one is about the Feather and Edge Sliders for ACR Masks, I have found these extremely helpful many times in the past so do not hesitate to delve in & give this tutorial a try.
We have our regular “Coffee and Pixel” challenge, this month the theme is Bridges, plus our Art Buddies Quotes Challenge with the theme this month being One Colour. It is amazing how with a little imagination so many extraordinary images have been created for these challenges.

This month our Art By Artists are Hemant Kogekar, Ilona Abou-Zolof and Rosa Perry. I hope you enjoy their series of images that they have put together for you.
I feel so lucky to belong to such a talented group of artists where they just keep improving and inspiring each other month after month.

FOR ACR MASKS

Adobe Camera Raw version 18.3.1 adds a significant new feature for some of the masking tools.
Feather and Edge sliders are now available for Subject, Sky, Background, Landscape and People masks (see Figure 1).
The Feather slider allows you to soften the edge of your mask, softening the transition from selected to unselected parts of your mask, removing hard mask edges. It operates much like a Gaussian blur.
The Edge slider allows to contract your mask (by sliding the slider to the left) or to expand your mask (by sliding the slider to the right).
These new sliders will allow you to refine you masks and especially will help you avoid the halos often created by these masks.
At the time of writing these new features were not available in Lightroom but hopefully we’ll see them there soon too.
Whilst these new features are a big step forward for the ACR masking tools I believe you will still get far better results in Photoshop using the more advanced masking features there and especially when using specialised masking plug-ins like Lumenzia and TK9.

Challenge: “One Colour Story”
