St on e cabi n et m ak ers si nce 20 0 6 Created in 2006 by Alain Ellouz, Atelier Alain Ellouz quickly became the market leader in back-lit alabaster creations. The story begins in 1995 when the passionate novice, Alain Ellouz, discovers alabaster, his stone of choice for sculptures. Ten years later, as his passion for the stone and its translucent quality deepens, so does his certainty about the natural treasures hidden within this material. His first artistic, alabaster creations are born. This turning point is marked by his encounter with designer, Marion BiaisSauvĂŞtre, and together they elaborate a resolutely contemporary approach, joining alabaster and light.

They continue on to develop technical innovations which allow them to accomplish increasingly complex projects, opening the door to a new luxury market.

In 2011, Alain Ellouz pursues his explorations and discovers another stone with artistic potential: rock crystal. He soon creates his first lighting fixtures from this translucent stone. Today, Atelier Alain Ellouz flourishes with a third showroom in New York - in addition to Paris and London - set to open in June 2018. The story continues...

A specific and rare crystallization of gypsum creates the unique texture and translucent appearance of alabaster.

The stone naturally offers myriad patterns and shades.

Fluid or crystallized, white or ochre, each piece of alabaster is unique. After careful selection, we shape and design alabaster to create pieces that highlight each stone’s unique aesthetic qualities.

The extraordinary richness of alabaster’s patterns is not its only distinctive attribute. The stone’s delicate, fragile nature required us to develop specific protection treatments: STONELIGHT treatments. Our research department has developed Stonelight treatments to counter alabaster’s fragility while preserving its aesthetic qualities.

an Atelier Alain Ellouz exclusive Alabaster’s naturally rich qualities can also pose technical constraints: considerable fragility, scratches easily, high sensitivity to sunlight and stains...

Our research department has elaborated Stonelight treatments to counter these various constraints. Thanks to this innovative treatment, we can work with alabaster even on demanding projects that require solidity, impermeability and resistance to UV exposure.

In a continual quest for excellence, each light fixture created by Atelier Alain Ellouz is truly a piece of fine art.

Atelier Alain Ellouz also designs architectural projects in collaboration with some of the world’s major designers.

Our workshop creates furniture, as well as large-scale projects. Our creations range from light-modulating alabaster blinds, to fire places, from impressively high walls to bars, shelves and tables. Each one of our custom creations is fabricated exclusively in our workshop.

Inspired by Japanese or Oriental culture, each piece is designed and elaborated in our workshop in round, raw, oval or cylindrical shapes. The sleek lines are the result of sophisticated, obscured techniques, which reveal the hidden secrets of alabaster and rock crystal.

Suspended or fixed, alone or in a set, Atelier Alain Ellouz lighting fixtures are an elegant and harmonious salute to earth’s mysteries.

Atelier Alain Ellouz collaborates with renowned designers such as Peter Marino, Philippe Hurel, Philippe Starck, Wainbridge Estates, Stéphanie Coutas, Jean-Marc Mouchet, Les Héritiers, Damien Langlois Meurinne... We’ve also had the privilege of developing projects for major luxury brands such as Guerlain, Chaumet, Dior, Chanel, Jaeger LeCoultre, David Morris, Louis Vuitton, and many others...

From conception to fabrication, our workshop takes on the boldest and most challenging projects, achieving astonishing and spellbinding results.

Innovation and technolog y As authentic back-lit stone specialists, Atelier Alain Ellouz research department developed innovative technologies to create a harmonious union between alabaster’s natural beauty and the light which strikes it.

In keeping with traditional “French luxury” and excellence, Atelier Alain Ellouz favors a contemporary approach to light. For alabaster creations, lighting is installed in the stone’s mass to subdue its transparent aspect and produce a more homogeneous effect as a result of masterfully controlled light diffusion. Rock crystal, on the other hand, is illuminated at its sides a patented technology.
