2025: Hope and Creativity Amid New Tools and Challenges Reconnecting with Authentic, Personal Art In paging through the last few print editions of this collection, I remembered the urgency with which we greeted the advent of AI. Creatives have been connecting as we work through questions and concerns about its adoption in the marketplace and as we look for ethical ways to embrace and incorporate AI tools in our personal and professional lives. I don’t believe the underlying urgency has abated, but I do see an increasing—though cautious—optimism as artists adapt to this technological space. I see that these tools are pushing us to define and embrace our most authentic creative voices. I see us digging into accuracy and the importance of education. I see efforts to bridge the gap between the high expectations of an automated creative workflow and the reality of how much richer an experienced human eye can be. I believe this is a time to redefine and create our most authentic work, to approach problemsolving collaboratively and sustainably. I believe this is a time when deep teaching is needed, when still, calm messaging can play a role in cutting through the noise we may experience on social media channels. While the U.S. has suffered setbacks in government-funded science and public health, scientific discoveries continue apace. In 2025, we hope to learn more about signs of alien life on distant planets, creatures from the deepest seas, benefit from therapeutic pipelines using CRISPR technology, advances in treatments for avian flu, Alzheimer’s, and obesity. Optimism and hope have always underlain great scientific breakthroughs. We, your creative partners, are not in short supply of these qualities. We hope you enjoy the breathtaking creativity and original voices found in these pages. These talented artists—leaders in our field—have experience in every aspect of the creative process.
