Ceremony speakers Pierre Comizzoli, Ph.D., D.V.M. Senior Program Officer for Science, Smithsonian Institution

Dr. Pierre Comizzoli is a staff scientist at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. He develops new projects on gamete and gonadal tissue cryo-banking for rare and endangered species. His comparative research on fertility preservation in various wild and domestic animal species creates interesting bridges with human reproductive health and medicine. Besides conducting research on cutting-edge approaches in fertility preservation and assisted reproduction, Comizzol is also in charge of conservation projects on wild carnivores and ungulates in Northern Africa and in Southeast Asia. Comizzoli also leads the Pan-Smithsonian Cryo-Initiative (PSCI) which aims to improve the management and use of biomaterial repositories within SCBI. Comizzoli has worked as a veterinarian in French Guyana and in the African SaheloSaharan region. He also has a master’s degree from the University of Paris VI and a doctoral degree from the University of Tours on reproductive biotechnologies in bovine and deer species. During his doctoral studies, he described an original effect of the paternal component on early embryo development in both species, and produced in vitro the first transferable embryos in red deer and Japanese sika deer.

Sally C. Morton, Ph.D. Executive Vice President, ASU Knowledge Enterprise

Sally C. Morton is a champion of research and innovation and the executive vice president of ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise. She advances the university’s research priorities, leads ASU’s transdisciplinary institutes and initiatives, and drives corporate engagement, economic development, global initiatives and strategic partnerships. Dr. Morton has led complex organizations in 4

both the academy and industry including as dean of the College of Science at Virginia Tech, as vice president for statistics and epidemiology at RTI International and as head of the RAND Corporation’s Statistics Group. She is internationally recognized in the use of statistics and data science to help patients, their families and providers make better health care decisions.

She received a PhD in statistics from Stanford University, where she also earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees, and she holds an MSc in statistics from the London School of Economics.

Kyle N. Siegal, M.S., J.D. Senior VP and Chief Patent Counsel, Skysong Innovations

Kyle joined Skysong Innovations in January 2017 and serves as Senior VP of Life Sciences and Chief Patent Counsel. As a registered patent attorney, he works closely with faculty and pursues legal protection for ASU innovation in the life science space.

Prior to joining Skysong Innovations, Kyle worked at a leading law firm where he helped clients identify, secure, and enforce all types of intellectual property rights. Before practicing law, Kyle served as a regulatory affairs specialist for a global medical device company.
