Welcome!

C

hildren all over the world know that Pippi Longstocking is the strongest girl in the world and that That Emil is full of mischief but kind-hearted. They know that Villekulla Cottage is yellow and that there is a horse on the veranda and that That Emil spends most of his time in the woodshed. When you bring the children to Astrid Lindgren’s World, this is exactly what you’ll find, because here the stories come to life. The settings are taken from Astrid Lindgren’s stories about Pippi Longstocking, That Emil, Ronja the Robber’s Daughter and other children who have made her one of the world’s best-loved authors. Here you’ll find Villekulla Cottage, Katthult farm, Matt’s Forest and many other places from Astrid Lindgren’s stories. A visit to Astrid Lindgren’s World is like a journey through her stories but for real.

Reality is just like in the books!

A

strid Lindgren’s World is not really one but many worlds in one place. On your walk through the park you will pass well-known places such as Cherry Tree Valley, Wild Rose Valley and Junedale. Not far from there, but in a completely different world, you’ll find Matt’s Fort. Continue a bit further and there is Villekulla Cottage. And before that, you will probably have stopped at Karlsson’s roof and in Katthult. They are all places that can be recognised from Astrid Lindgren’s stories. But they wouldn’t be quite as exciting without their inhabitants. What would Villekulla Cottage be without Pippi Longstocking or Matt’s Fort without the robbers? In these living settings, there are up to 50 different performances daily with scenes from the books. What makes the theatre performances so special is that the people in the audience are so close to the action and, sometimes, they even end up in it. All the theatre performances at Astrid Lindgren’s World are included in the admission.

Packed with exciting meetings

I

n Astrid Lindgren’s World you can bump into the characters at any time who previously only existed in books. And it can be a great experience for a young child to be in the middle of the action, with their favourites so close they can touch them. That’s what children can experience here in Astrid Lindgren’s World. It is the meeting between the children and Astrid Lindgren’s characters that is the great adventure and what makes the visit so memorable. There are live theatre performances throughout the day all over the park and anyone who wants to can join in. If, for example, you want to go into Wild Rose Valley, you can expect to be stopped by Tengil’s men at the entrance. If you know the password, there’s no problem. Otherwise Jonathan Lionheart will probably come and whisper it in your ear.

”We played and played and played – it’s a wonder we didn’t play ourselves to death.” - astrid lindgren -

I

f there was one thing that Astrid Lindgren cared about it was children’s right to be children. And one of the best ways of being a child is to be able to play freely. The important theme of ‘playfulness’ therefore permeates everything that happens in Astrid Lindgren’s World. You can play everywhere here – adult or child. And can you imagine a more fun place to play than in Pippi Longstocking’s Villekulla Cottage or the deep tunnels under Matt’s Fort? There are also places in the park that were created just for play, such as Noisy Village and the play barn in Katthult, for example.

We take food seriously

D

ays filled with play require an occasional break to top up the energy reserves. You can of course bring your own food to the park and find a nice place to sit and eat it. There are plenty of picnic and barbecue areas. If you choose to visit one of our eateries, you can be sure that you’ll get good and healthy food. We did away with all fast food and semi-finished products a long time ago.

We serve everything from light dishes to proper SmĂĽland homely fare like meatballs with mashed potatoes and bacon with potato pancakes. And we serve home-made jam with freshly made pancakes or waffles. If anyone in the family has allergies or needs a special diet for any other reason, there is always at least one allergy option.

This is where it all started... Childhood home • Exhibitions • Gardens “Let’s start from the beginning – November 1907, that’s when I was born – in an old red house surrounded by apple trees. The farm where we lived was – and still is – called Näs. And we, my three siblings and I, lived a happy Noisy Village life at Näs, almost exactly like the children in Noisy Village.” A visit to Astrid Lindgren’s Näs will take you closer to our best-loved author. Go on a guided tour of her childhood home, see the exhibition about Astrid Lindgren’s life, enjoy the gardens and be inspired by art and creative rooms. Astrid Lindgren’s Näs is a place for calm and play. A

strid Lindgren’s ability to tell stories so that children listen has made her one of the world’s most translated authors. Her stories are about clever, brave, tender-hearted, shrewd and witty children who are also angry, scared and sometimes sad. For Astrid Lindgren, it was important to let children be children, and that is something we bear in mind here at Astrid Lindgren’s World.

Astrid Lindgren cared about children’s rights. That’s why it is important for us to cooperate with the following organisations that work to provide a good life for children: sos barnbyar • bris • min stora dag save the children • astrid lindgrens barnsjukhus
