CREATE THE PERFECT TORTOISESHELL NAILS THIS AUTUMN
As the leaves turn and pumpkin spice returns to the spotlight, it’s time for your nails to follow suit. This season, elevate your manicure with the rich, dimensional beauty of tortoiseshell nails, a timeless design that channels all the warm, earthy tones of autumn.
Katie Lou Pritchard, Brand Ambassador for HARA Professional, shares her foolproof method to achieve this luxe layered look. Don’t be intimidated by the depth and detail. It’s simpler than it looks, and the results are nothing short of stunning.
Step 1: Begin by mixing equal parts of Pumpkin, Umber, and Base Coat to create a translucent amber tone. Apply a thin layer to the nail, and here’s the trick… do not cure yet.
Step 2: Add blobs of Ebony polish randomly across the nail. Let them bloom naturally to create that organic mottled effect. Use a brush to lightly blend and texture the blobs. Then, cure for 60 seconds.
Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 to deepen the layered effect. This time, add a few extra Umber spots alongside the Ebony to enhance dimension.
Step 4: Apply a final sheer coat of your Pumpkin-Umber-Base mix. Cure again for 60 seconds.

Step 5: Finish with a smooth float of Top Coat across the nail for a glossy, glass-like finish. Cure for a final 60 seconds.
TOP TIP: WHEN APPLYING YOUR TOP COAT, TURN THE NAIL UPSIDE DOWN BEFORE CURING. THIS ALLOWS GRAVITY TO HELP THE TOP COAT SETTLE INTO A SMOOTH APEX, GIVING THE LOOK THAT PROFESSIONAL SCULPTED SHEEN.

Step 4 Stain: Mix artistry with science. Blend Mocha with a drop of Latte, then combine with Cream Developer. Apply the stain from the tail toward the front for a natural gradient.
