PIKEY PEAK TREK IN NEPAL Pikey peak trek is one of the shortest treks which can be completed in 3 to 7 days, near Kathmandu in the Mt. Everest region. I still remember getting excited to trek to Pikey peak last year, which felt like one of the best moments of life that ended in a flash. I enjoyed every second of the trekking from enjoying the landscapes containing terraces, fields, forests, beautiful flowers, majestic mountains and intriguing Sherpa culture and lifestyle. Again, I even enjoyed the hard work I did to trek and lingering tiredness it felt after the trekking. All of this was a new experience and refreshing to my monotonous life.

THE ROUTE TO PIKEY PEAK TREK The route to Pikey peak trek and experience you get during trekking can be summarized in the following subheadings:

ARRIVE IN KATHMANDU At first, if you are a foreigner, then you will first have to arrive in Kathmandu. While visiting Kathmandu, you get to enjoy the top view beauty of Nepal from different natural landscapes, snow-capped elegant mountains to different cultural heritage. You can rest the day off or can visit popular places in Kathmandu for different purposes such as to enjoy views and explore culture to suit your palate and other purposes.

DRIVE FROM KATHMANDU TO DHAP, TREK TO SIGANE OR JAPRE (2920 M) After you arrive at Kathmandu, you will have to drive to Dhap from where your trekking will begin. I remember leaving Kathmandu in the early morning to reach Dhap along the roads through the mountains to the Sun Kosi river so that I can trek as soon as possible. So if you intend to trek to Dhap on the same day, it is recommended to leave for Dhap early in the morning.

Pikey Peak Forest Dhap is inaugurating point for trekking during which you walk through up and down paths that takes you through forests of beautiful rhododendrons, white sub-alpine flowers and terraced fields of rice and vegetables carved into the hillsides.

When your trekking takes you near Sigan, which is the destination from Dhap, you get to view breathtaking mountain peaks which are the peaks of the Number Himal section of the Himalayan Range. Then we follow a trail from Sigane follows a road which was under construction during my visit, to reach the ďŹ rst village called Japre at an altitude of 2920m, which is the first stop of our trek.

TREK FROM JAPRE TO PIKEY BASE CAMP From Japre you then trek to Pikey base camp. Along the way to Pikey base camp, you can enjoy a lot of scenic views. The first is a grassy ridge named Bhulbule which provides a great view for Everest ranges. Then you can enjoy Sherpa villages, old yak houses, floral meadows, long mani stone wall, stupas, beautiful ancient forests and others. After enjoying this, as you continue your journey, you reach the Pikey base camp. When I had trekked to this peak, it was evening and the view was not very clear. So I had to stay in a lodge for the night and then climb the peak the next day to enjoy the

beautiful sunrise above the mystical mountains. So it is recommended that you trek to the summit in the morning except for the case when the view is extraordinarily clear in the evening.

CLIMB TO PIKEY PEAK THEN TREK TO LAMJUNG DANDA As recommended, it is better to climb the Pikey peak in the morning. Because. it provides a pleasing heart view of the sunrise over the mountains. You will witness as the sun starts to rise the outlines of Himalayas are drawn more distinctly. Their color is more intensified in the canvas of the natural adding extra beauty to glorified mountains. Also, you will be rewarded the view of mountain piercing the sky.

Witnessing such a phenomenon, we will have no choice but to agree with what Sir Edmund Hilary had previously claimed that Pikey peak provides the most beautiful view of Mt. Everest.

After enjoying such a phenomenon, you climb down the peak, have some breakfast, and you can then trek to Lamjung Dand.

LAMJUNG DANDA TO JUNBESI From the Lamjung Danda, you then trek from higher altitude into lush, vibrant terrain. While trekking down to Junbesi, the lower elevation and increased amount of air will be noticeable.

When you reach Junbesi, you will not be able to help yourself from admiring this place as it will give you a vibe of being the capital of nature as it is surrounded by swiftly flowing rivers, beautiful, artistic monasteries, snow-capped mountains and other. TREK FROM JUNBESI TO TAKSINDU After having a great rest in Junbesi, you can then trek to Taksindu. The trail to Taksindu requires passing through forest crossing river, crossing towns. In the path, you can enjoy the views of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Chamlang.

TREK FROM TAKSINDU TO PHAPLU. From Taksindu, you can then trek to Phaplu, where you can enjoy a great rest after your adventurous trekking and unyielding effort and determination. During the trial, you walk through the forest which bid you goodbye and thanks to you for trekking to this place which makes you feel special. You can also visit Chiwong Gumba if interested which rests on a cliff overlooking the valley.

PHAPLU TO KATHMANDU You can then return back to Kathmandu to Phaplu and continue your journey of conquering base camps and peaks.

BEST TIME TO TREK The best seasons for trekking to Pikey peak are Autumn and Spring. The months corresponding these seasons are September-December for autumn seasons and February – June for spring seasons. The facts that during these seasons the weather is good, the sky is clear and offers a good view and the temperature is mild are the reasons due to which these seasons are taken to be the best seasons for Pikey peak trek. Similarly, another reason is the fact that most of the major festivals in Nepal lie in Autumn and festival celebrated in Chiwong Gumba also lies in the Autumn season which is a cherry on top of the cream.

Pikey Peak Sunrise Monsoon is the worst season for trekking to Pikey peak as the monsoon invites landslides and floods.

Not only that but also the trail are slippery and leeches will encroach you throughout the forest trail.

However, this season can be perfect for the keen botanist who is very willing to study the different vegetation found in this region.

It is also not recommended to trek to Pikey peak during winter as the temperature is extremely cold.

And even if you decide to trek to Pikey peak, it is highly advised to take extra clothing and check the availability of tea houses at higher altitudes.

THINGS TO PREPARE FOR PIKEY PEAK TREK As we are ready to trek to Pikey peak, there are few things required to be prepared beforehand.

1. HIKING CLOTHES Hiking clothes are one of the necessities during trekking. You do not want to wear your normal clothes during sweaty and rough trekking as there is the chance of being torn.

2. NON-HIKING CLOTHING Non-hiking clothes are comfy clothes that you can wear when not trekking like in a tea house or when you go for a stroll. If you go trekking in winter, it is highly recommended that you take extra jackets.

3. MEDICINES AND AIDS It is highly recommended that you some medicines for headache, nausea, altitude sickness and bandaids in case you have an accident.

4. MONEY ‘Money is the best friend in adversity.’ Thus you should take extra cash in case you find yourself in trouble.

5. SLEEPING BAG You should also take sleeping bags as there are fewer tea houses at the higher altitude. Also, you may not get a comfy room.

6. SNACKS You should also pack some snacks which will keep your energy in check as well as suit your palate.
