There’s always something happening in Belgium. The Belgium Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the new Buergbrennen event (a Luxembourg tradition to burn away winter), the annual Easter egg hunt, Summer Nights LIVE series and Belgium’s European Christmas

parade and festivities (more events at www.belgiumareachamber.org).

Buechler Farms offers a hearty calendar of family-friendly events, from its summer rodeo to its fall Harvest Fest and “Not Just a Tree Sale” that fills the holiday season with magic.  Just up the road, Memories Ballroom provides firstclass dinner theater, comedy, and musical events paired with fantastic food in a rustically elegant setting.

The northern leg of the Ozaukee Interurban Trail leads bikers and runners through the Village of Belgium with a well-marked spur leading to Harrington Beach State Park. In winter, Belgium’s trail section is left unplowed for crosscountry skiing.

Conveniently located off Hwy. 43, Belgium is just 30 miles north of Milwaukee and halfway between Chicago and Door County.  It is a great place to relocate, raise a family, or establish a business in our village or its expanding industrial park.

THE VILLAGE OF FREDONIA LIES BETWEEN HWY. 57 AND THE MILWAUKEE RIVER ON COUNTY HWY. H.

Nestled within its rolling hills, a variety of architecture can be found from the 1800s to the present, housing a population of 2,200 friendly residents.

The seeds of the Village were planted in 1872 when the area, formerly known as Stony Creek, was donated by Peter Martin and Peter Paulus to the Milwaukee and Northern Railway Corporation for the railroad tracks and a depot. The name Fredonia, which means “free gifts” or “the land where things are done freely,” was chosen. Today, Fredonia is a growing community hosting a growing

industrial park, outstanding school system, new home developments, prospering businesses, community soccer and baseball fields, disc golf, and a rich history. We host family-friendly events such as the Annual "MUDonia Kids Mud Run" and “Tuesday Tunes at Freedom” Music Series. Come visit and see what Fredonia has to offer – the warmth and safety of a small town, with the vision and ambition to grow for generations to come!

Stony Hill School, in the Town of Fredonia (Waubeka area), is the “birthplace of National Flag Day.” This is just north of

Ozaukee County Pioneer Village, on Hwy. I, and is a great part of the tourist loop.

Waubeka is home to the National Flag Day Foundation Americanism Center. The Center offers the Avenue of Flags, a commemorative outdoor courtyard and a full museum featuring military and local memorabilia. The museum is open by appointment only. The Flag Day Foundation is a non profit organization that hosts several events each year, including the National Observance

of Flag Day held on the second Sunday in June. The observance includes a program at Cigrand Memorial in Waubeka, a 100-unit Parade, family day with music, refreshments, activities and fireworks. The Foundation also holds a Valentine Dinner/Auction Event. Visit the National Flag Day Foundation website to learn more or to book a museum tour at: www.nationalflagday.com

Waubedonia Park, situated along the Milwaukee River in the Village of Fredonia, is the oldest park in the Ozaukee County Park System. The park, which is just a short drive from the Milwaukee metro area, offers camping on 17 rustic campsites (some with electricity and water), and is open from the first Saturday in May through the third Saturday in October, weather permitting. It also offers a reservable open air pavilion, restrooms, playground, picnic areas, nature areas, meandering creek, walking trails, tennis courts, and soccer and baseball fields.

NEWBURG MAY BE SMALL (POP. 1,254), BUT OUR IDEAL LOCATION AFFORDS EASY ACCESS TO JUST WHAT YOU’D LIKE.

Enjoy that “Up North” sensation year-round, just a 32-minute drive north of Milwaukee. Nestled on a bend of the Milwaukee River and straddling Ozaukee and Washington counties, you’ll find the charming Village of Newburg. Approaching the village from the east on Hwy. 33, you’ll see the towering Freedom Park flags greeting you – a memorial to those who have served.

NEWBURG AREA

Newburg’s autumn brings the community’s fun Halloween events on the last Saturday of October, and colorful leaves provide a picturesque background to flocks of migrating birds.

The rushing spring waters of the Milwaukee River challenge kayakers and canoers, who can launch or conclude their travels next to the Newburg Bridge where Main Street crosses the river. Newburg’s riverside viewing deck at the south side of the bridge is an ideal place for watching eagles soar. Cast your fishing pole upstream and you may see a longlegged heron standing in the river — see who catches a fish first!

Warm summer weather in Newburg means fresh organic produce at Winterspring Farm (www.winterspringcsa.com), softball tournaments, the Fireman’s Picnic (end of May into June), a Lions Club Car Show (August), and a community weekend-long rummage sale (August), along with vibrant blooming of the native plant prairie at Welcome HOME B&B (www.Welcomehomebb.com).

The winter freeze ushers in ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and sledding. If indoor fun is more your style, try your luck at a game of bingo at Fireman’s Hall (facebook. com/NewburgFD/) or Sheepshead at the Newburg Community Center (www.village.newburg.wi.us), which is also available year-round to rent for your own events.

Newburg has some historic buildings and local businesses that have been community staples from the beginning. Lochen Equipment has been in business since 1899. Newburg’s Community Center was originally an 1840s sawmill, and the 1930s Reichel Brothers General Store is now a hair salon.

As you meander along Main Street, stop for a bite to eat at one of our eateries, from supper club dining to casual Friday fish fries, burgers and pizza. Ask locals about the prohibitione-era underground tunnels – we’ve heard Al Capone visited Newburg on occasion!

Plan to spend a night at a country Bed & Breakfast. Unique folk art complements natural beauty found on 18 acres of woodland and prairie at the wheelchair-friendly Welcome HOME B&B. Gather your family and friends to play yard games, roast marshmallows, star gaze, or just relax in the peace and tranquility.

PORT WASHINGTON AREA

Port Washington is reminiscent of an east coast seaside village, a harbor town that offers a beautiful breakwater out to one of the city’s two lighthouses. It boasts a number of popular restaurants, shops, galleries and a walkable downtown. In addition to the beautiful marina, the coastline around Port Washington offers beaches and clay bluffs ranging from 80 feet to 130 feet in height. Hiking trails overlook Lake Michigan, and winding paths, wooden boardwalks and bridges lure visitors down to the lake. Only 30 minutes north of Milwaukee, Port Washington provides its visitors with the small town feel with all of the activities that travelers are interested in.

The downtown sits lakeside, and offers unique dining and shopping opportunities, many housed in historic storefronts. There

are numerous pubs, including a winery and brewpub. The restaurants are all locally owned and very different in their offerings. Whether you are in the mood for a brewpub, barbeque, Mexican, Italian, deli, supper club fare, or even fresh farm to table, you’ll find an option of your liking. Saturdays also feature a very popular lakeside beer garden with food and music. Numerous specialty food and retail shops feature everything from fish to popcorn to chocolate to a farm market. There are two popular outdoor gear stores in town, along with unique shops and boutiques – even a surf shop! Plus, if you are here on a Saturday, you

can pick up some fresh food at the downtown Farmers Market.

All of the outdoor recreational opportunities are exceptional.

Boaters love the certified Clean Marina. Bike, bird, run or hike on nearby trails. One of the trails is the free, paved recreational Ozaukee Interurban Trail. Paddleboard and kayak enthusiasts, even surfers, love launching from South Beach. Plan your getaway with our visitor's resource guide for hotels, bed and breakfasts, shopping, events, farmers markets, lakefront festivals, and more. Once you are here, make sure to stop by the historic Pebble House Visitor Center for more information. And don't forget your camera; there are breathtaking views everywhere you look.

CEDARBURG ISN’T A PLACE YOU VISIT; IT IS A PLACE YOU EXPERIENCE WITH ALL YOUR SENSES.

From the aromas wafting from delightful candy shops and the babbling sounds emanating from Cedar Creek to the inviting glow of cozy shops and vintage beer signs on Washington Avenue, Cedarburg is simply remarkable

Local restaurants fill the air with mouth-watering smells.

Charming tree-lined streets beckon with their cultural attractions, arts and amenities. Unique annual festivals and special events draw friendly residents from their homes and bring visitors back year after year. You can’t help but be drawn to the nostalgic appeal of a picture-perfect downtown where historic inns, museums, restaurants, specialty shops, confectioners and a restored theatre lure you to spend an hour, a day, a weekend or more.

Cedar Creek Settlement, on the corner of Washington and Bridge, is a good place to start the day. Saved from demolition more than 50 years ago, the former 1864 woolen mill is now home to dozens of specialty stores, art studios, restaurants and the Cedar Creek Winery, one of America’s most noted small regional wineries. If craft beers are more to your taste, stop at one of the charming breweries or gastropubs on Washington Avenue, or within a short drive, and have fun browsing galleries and boutiques along the way. Every year, tourists flock to the city’s four famous, family-oriented festivals: Winter Festival in February, Strawberry Festival in June, Wine & Harvest Festival in September,

and Oktoberfest in October. The Fourth of July Parade is the largest hometown celebration of its kind in Southeastern Wisconsin, and the popular, free Summer Sounds concerts pack Cedar Creek Park every Friday night from June through August. Cedarburg is also proud to host the annual Ozaukee County Fair, one of the last free fairs in the Midwest, always the first full weekend of August.

"Unique annual festivals and special events draw friendly residents from their homes and bring visitors back year after year"
