Thank you for your interest in the eighth Leicester Business Festival. This high profile festival fortnight in November 2022 will showcase why doing business in our region is something to be incredibly proud of and be a part of.
Leicester was recently named the top performing city to live and work in the East Midlands (according to the Good Growth for Cities Index listing). So our region clearly has a lot of good practice to share - the festival is set to do just that.
This year proved really popular with businesses coming together to host over 80 events. Ultimately, this has created an exciting, diverse and unique line-up. The programme is packed with learning opportunities, unique insights and success stories and offers an opportunity for people to form long lasting business relationships across every sector.
During the two weeks, the events are free and led by industry experts on topics such as energy saving, finance planning, improving health and wellbeing, the best tools in sustainability to reach net zero as well as intel on IT, cyber and digital skills.
For the first time ever at the festival there will be a Leicester Giving Day on Friday 18 November. Leicester Giving Day is a simple but impactful initiative launched by Embark CSR for companies and educational establishments in Leicester and Leicestershire to showcase their philanthropic support for charities and local communities. It will also bring the work of charities and community organisations to the attention of the public.
Without the investment, partnership and engagement from businesses, the festival would not be possible. The festival is a Community Interest Company which means it’s not for profit and funding comes from the business community that it serves.
The 2022 Leicester Business Festival is grateful and proud of the support from De Montfort University who are the headline partner for the sixth year running. East Midlands Chamber has also invested in the festival and is the longest standing partner. Plus there is trusted and valued support from Brewin Dolphin, Pattersons Commercial Law, Assured Energy, Lawson-West, Midlands Engine Investment Fund, EMBARK CSR, Everards of Leicestershire, Highcross, Mem Saab, Voluntary Action Leicester (VAL), University of Leicester - School of Business, Sandicliffe Transit Centre and Mattioli Woods, The Health Suite, Sir Thomas White Loans Charity, Newton Fallowell, Global Radio, Metro, IoD and the Big Difference.
Year after year, the festival has shown that when local businesses join together they collectively create a better future for everyone living and working in Leicester and Leicestershire.
We urge everyone to make the most of this golden opportunity by booking onto events and getting involved in the region’s biggest business festival.
RICHARD OSBORN CHAIR OF THE LBF CICNormally, De Montfort University Leicester (DMU)’s open days are aimed at new students and their parents – but during Leicester Business Festival we’ll be hosting a day just for the business community.
Our award-winning city centre campus is home to cutting-edge facilities which can be used by businesses working across a variety of sectors from digital healthcare to pharmaceutical manufacturing, green energy and sustainable textiles.
On Friday, November 11 DMU will be welcoming businesses on to campus to find out more, meet some of our industry experts and see what the university has to offer business partners.
We came up with a ‘DMU Day’ because we realised that people walk past DMU all the time, but they probably do not realise the superb facilities we have here, which business can have access to,
We have worked with teams across the university to put on a series of events which showcase the expertise we have here alongside some of our incredible equipment and resources, which we think will really appeal to businesses in Leicester.
DMU’s regional business development manager
Based in our award-winning Vijay Patel Building, our Art, Design and Humanities is home to create and design expertise. See our Design Unit and hear about their work helping companies to test and develop new products. Try out our new 3D scanning technology, visit the workshops and take a tour of our Design Crafts studios. You’ll also have the chance to see why companies around the world work with DMU on sustainable textiles technology.
Its research labs are capable of testing sustainable materials helping companies to navigate the complex regulatory testing requirements of evaluating and launching products.
Our School of Fashion and Textiles is home to tomorrow’s talent with a focus on reducing waste and ‘slow fashion’ principles.
DMU’s Cyber Security Institute – rated Gold by the National Cyber Security Centre – helps companies of all sizes be aware of and deal with security threats.
Whether it’s using behavioural psychology to determine likely phishing attacks or analysing security vulnerabilities to malware and ransomware attacks, our subject matter experts have wide experience in working with companies of all sizes. On DMU Day, take a tour of our cyber labs and meet the team, and see how easy it can be to gain key information on your company.
Our Leicester Media School studios will also be open –so if you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at being a TV presenter, here is your chance. We will also include a visit to our green energy centre where you can find out about the latest research into sustainable energy is taking place.
Health and Life Sciences is changing the face of healthcare training following a significant investment in a skills suite which is training medical professionals. Our HLS academics are at the forefront of digital healthcare innovation and our expertise in pharmaceutical design and manufacturing technologies is helping new entrants establish businesses as well as Big Pharma to bring new drugs to market.
During DMU Day you can visit these facilities, talk to our experts about current projects and visit our new
£2million clinical skills suites, which are used to deliver training to nursing, midwifery and medical students and apprentices. These combine simulations with lifelike scenarios to ensure the very best training.
In Business and Law, meet our academics who work with SMEs to support leadership development, managing change and research the new challenges that post-Covid working has unearthed.
Find out about our CPD programmes and discuss training needs, and take a tour of the Leicester Castle Business School, based in historic Leicester Castle’s Great Hall.
DMU has been a supporter of the Leicester Business Festival since 2014 and for the past five years, has been proud to be a headline partner of the event, supporting and championing the business community.
