Hello Golden Eagles!

As you begin or return to your journey at Cal State LA, I am honored to welcome you as your Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) President for the 2023-2024 academic year. With the privilege of being elected as your student government, we are excited to serve our students and campus community, prioritizing your needs and facilitating the changes needed to support our diverse student population. Despite the significant impacts we anticipate on the California State University System and our campus this year, ASI aims to serve as a model emphasizing transparency, advocacy, and communication.

For all public affairs, at the University and Statewide levels, ASI will ensure transparency in decision-making, policy implementation, and any changes impacting our student body. As we gather and invite students to share their perspectives on issues, comments, or concerns, your voice will help facilitate the conversations with university administration to formulate action plans and decision-making efforts that ensure you receive only the best experiences at Cal State LA.

As the official avenue for addressing student concerns, ASI emphasizes reestablishing effective communication with you, the student body, building trust between administrations to foster collaborative efforts to strengthen the campus community. ASI continues to bring programs, services, department support, campus initiatives, civic engagement, and higher education advocacy efforts, all working to serve and empower Cal State LA student voices. I invite you all to take part in these services alongside other resources provided by the various centers and student clubs/organizations to build community, making Cal State LA your home away from home. Once more, I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve you- we want to hear from you, so please stop by our ASI office located on the second floor of the University Student Union and share your thoughts and concerns.

ASI fosters community by supporting recognized student clubs and organizations of Cal State LA.

STUDENT REPRESENTATION

Golden Eagles, we hear you. Our student leaders help students when they have questions, comments, or concerns with the University.

STUDENT RESOURCES

ASI supports student resource departments such as Anna Bing Arnold, Children Center, Dreamer's Resource Center, Veteran's Resources Center and many other organizations that serve student needs. Additionally, we provide student resources such as blue books and scantrons, lockers, and discounted movie and theme park tickets.

STUDENT INPUT

ASI provides practical input towards campus governance and is the official avenue through which student opinions are expressed. We speak for YOU!

STUDENT ADVOCACY

Since 1947, ASI has been the driving voice at Cal State LA for student-led changes on and off campus. We advocate for you at the local, state, and national levels.

Are you looking to offset the high cost of textbooks? The ASI Textbook Scholarship Program is here to help! Your student government allocates $15,000 per semester to help Cal State LA students achieve their academic goals, and it's one of the best examples of how your student dollars work for you. Scholarships of up to $150 per student are awarded on a first come-first-served basis.

RENT A LOCKER

Students can rent one of our lockers at two convenient locations: (1) University-Student Union Basement and (2) Library North. Our lockers are safe, reasonably priced and are available for you to rent when you stop by the ASI Administration Office. Spaces are limited and based on a first come, first serve basis.

ACADEMIC SENATE & U-SU BOARD OF DIRECTORS (BOD)

This opportunity offers the deepest level of engagement and the most leadership development.

ASI Student Government and the U-SU Board of Directors are looking for student representatives to represent their respective colleges and assist in addressing students' questions, comments, or concerns about the University and voicing these within the administrative spaces. The roles vary significantly between organizations so we invite you to check them out.

By empowering students to find their voice, we encourage them to reach their true potential and create positive change on campus. By serving on committees in ASI, within the Colleges, the Academic Senate, or at the University level, students have the opportunity to present their perspectives and participate in shared governance at Cal State LA.

GOVERNANCE MEETINGS

ASI BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors (BOD) is the main governing body of ASI and acts as a learning laboratory for student leadership. The BOD determines ASI’s annual budget and leads initiatives to improve student life and academic success.

EXECUTIVE CABINET

The Executive Cabinet coordinates the information, programs, and projects to be considered by the ASI Board of Directors.

PERSONNEL COMMITTEE

The Personnel Committee makes recommendations to the BOD regarding hiring staff, establishing policies regarding employee benefits, responsibilities and compensation.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

The Finance Committee takes care of ASI’s budget and allocation of funds for clubs, organizations, and campus programs and initiatives. The committee also prepares ASI’s annual budget and makes recommendations on appropriate investments.

SHARED GOVERNANCE COUNCIL

The Shared Governance Council (SGC) reviews, researches, and makes recommendations on academic and administrative policy affecting students. The SGC provides student input on university matters in standing committees and in the Academic Senate.

CABINET OF ACADEMIC SENATORS

The Cabinet of Senators (CAS) coordinates, plans, and is responsible for the actions of the academic governance unit of ASI. The CAS meets with the Academic Senate (governed by faculty) to actively engage in the process of shared governance of the university.

LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

The Legislative Affairs and Advocacy Committee reviews, researches, and makes recommendations on legislation being considered in the California State Legislature and United States Congress. This committee coordinates all of ASI’s Lobby Corps efforts and initiatives.

CABINET OF COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVES

The Cabinet of College Representatives supports college representatives by opening lines of communication and collaboration between Cal State LA’s seven colleges and various disciplines. Under the direct supervision of the ASI President, college representatives work together to ensure collaboration on student needs and concerns on campus.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH

The Community Engagement & Outreach Committee (CEO) consists of Spirit, Environmental Affairs, Election, Housing, and Military Connected student representative. The cabinet coordinates ASI elections, advocacy and outreach, public relations, spirit and pride initiatives, housing support initiatives, and a number of social and educational programs for the Cal State LA community.

CLUB FUNDING COMMITTEE

The Club Funding Committee reviews and takes action on funding proposals submitted by the various clubs and organizations on campus. All actions will be reported to the Finance and Board of Directors.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY COMMITTEE

The Environmental Policy Committee works to educate students on environmental sustainability and environmental justice. In collaboration with Cal State LA administrators, this committee formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make ASI and Cal State LA more environmentally sustainable.

VOLUNTEER FLIGHT CREW

The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote ASI and U-SU events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience.

The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote ASI and U-SU events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience.

GOLDEN EAGLE PRIDE & SPIRIT

ASI supports campaigns directed by our Spirit Commissioner who organizes and maintains school spirit initiatives and programs. While developing and implementing a schedule of pride events throughout the academic year, the Spirit Commissioner is charged with initiating crowd participation for Cal State LA Athletics and encouraging club and Greek participation in large-scale and campus walkway events. GO GREEN! #ECOEAGLES

Under the leadership of the ASI Environmental Affairs Commissioner, the Environmental Policy Committee (EPC) formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make Cal State LA and the CSU System more environmentally sustainable. The Environmental Affairs Commissioner and EPC act as education agents with respect to environmental sustainability and environmental justice in our community. LOBBY CORPS

Lobby Corps is a network of organized students from across the CSU System charged with maintaining student representation and advocacy in the State Legislature and at CSU Board of Trustees meetings.
