NiaJ O H N S O N ASI PRESIDENT Welcome back Golden Eagles! Your Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) is excited to embark on another year filled with empowerment and advocacy. It is an honor to serve as your student government representatives and, as such, we vow to demonstrate transparency and professionalism within our respective positions. We are an organization functioning solely on a small portion of student fees amounting to $53.75 a year. This fee entitles students to utilize ASI as a campus resource for student success. Some of what ASI offers includes programming and services, department support, campus and civic engagement, and higher education lobbying opportunities. This year, in order to maximize impact and increase accessibility, we will build upon these efforts by increasing our focus on department collaborations. Our new ASI administration is comprised of dedicated, passionate student leaders committed to supporting students campus-wide. Our mission is to help students find their voices by offering platforms for them to share their experiences. We take pride in the fact that ASI work is done for the students, by the students. This is how we function and represent the community we serve. As the new academic year begins, we’re still responding to shifts in the political landscape and will be diligent in promoting civic engagement and participation. We will continue to emphasize the importance of student voices and stress the significance of voter registration and mobilization. Cal State LA students are the future and we want them to be well represented in the public sphere. We are tasked with actively addressing student concerns and empowering their voices to be heard by the University and beyond. In doing so, we hope to see an increase of student involvement around campus. As an organization dedicated to serving students, our greatest impact is apparent when we achieve broad student engagement and support. Students are the heart of this beautifully diverse campus and, as such, their voices matter. ASI will continue to echo this message and act as the liaison between students and the University Administration. We acknowledge that Cal State LA students are tenacious and dedicated to pursuing education. This is reflected in our upward mobility rate and demonstrated every day when students step onto campus. We have no doubt that our students can overcome obstacles impeding their success. So, this year, ASI will not only represent the students, we will empower them to speak up for themselves. It is time to break barriers.

Together we offer student participation in the quest for social justice, equality of opportunity, enlightened civic engagement and the improvement of the quality of life for all Californians. PBI, a presidentially chartered institute at Cal State LA, is a non-partisan public policy center convening public forums, engaging diverse communities, and conducting research and community-driven initiatives. GOLDEN EAGLE PRIDE & SPIRIT ASI supports campaigns directed by our Spirit Commissioner who organizes and maintains school spirit initiatives and programs. While developing and implementing a schedule of pride events throughout the academic year, the Spirit Commissioner is charged with initiating crowd participation for Cal State LA Athletics and encouraging club and Greek participation in large-scale and campus walkway events. SCREAMING EAGLES STREET TEAM The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote ASI events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience, but participation also requires a commitment to attend regular meetings and to submit reports on a periodic basis.
