Hello and welcome back! Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) is a student-led organization created to ensure that the student voice is strong and unified within the shared governance of the campus. With such an important task, the elected/ appointed ASI representatives have a responsibility to actively address student problems and to put forward student concerns to key campus stakeholders. For those reasons, it is imperative for ASI to make certain that students who may not be as involved, due to family, work, classes, etc., can still be informed about campus matters and have their voices expressed through ASI representation. And, for those wishing to represent their own and other students’ views on key issues, it is ASI’s responsibility to provide the resources and opportunities to do so. This calendar serves as a first step to being informed on what initiatives ASI is involved with. Social events like the 2018 Basketball Homecoming Celebration and the 6th Annual “Bleed Gold” Dodgeball Tournament offer students a nice opportunity to have fun and cut loose, while other programs like the Meet the CSU Student Trustees and #StigmaFree events offer the opportunity for students to talk about important issues affecting them directly. In turn, workshops such as the A&L Portfolio Review Sessions and the CCOE CPR Certification Training reflect professional development opportunities that students have been asking for. I want to encourage you, no matter what type of student you may be, to take advantage of involvement opportunities on campus and to speak with your elected/appointed ASI representatives about anything that might interest you. Each student has a unique voice based upon their own individual experiences, so help ASI serve you better by visiting our office, talking with us, and participating in any of our student planned events. And remember, look for the letters: ASI.
ASI works closely with the Institute. Together we offer student participation in the quest for social justice, equality of opportunity, enlightened civic engagement and the improvement of the quality of life for all Californians. PBI, a presidentially chartered institute at Cal State LA, is a non-partisan public policy center convening public forums, engaging diverse communities, and conducting research and community-driven initiatives. GOLDEN E AGLE PRIDE & SPIRIT ASI supports campaigns directed by our Spirit Commissioner who organizes and maintains school spirit initiatives and programs. While developing and implementing a schedule of pride events throughout the academic year, the Spirit Commissioner is charged with initiating crowd participation for Cal State LA Athletics and encouraging club and Greek participation in large-scale and campus walkway events. SCRE AMING E AGLES STREET TE AM The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote ASI events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience, but participation also requires a commitment to attend regular meetings and to submit reports on a periodic basis. GO GREEN! #ECOE AGLES Under the leadership of the ASI Environmental Affairs Commissioner, the Environmental Policy Committee (EPC) formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make Cal State LA and the CSU System more environmentally sustainable. The Environmental Affairs Commissioner and EPC act as education agents with respect to environmental sustainability and environmental justice in our community.
