“Ignite Potential & Empower Student Voices” That’s the why of the Associated Students, Incorporated. Our vision is the basis for the services we offer and an explanation for the actions we take. When it comes to advocating for student voices, such as publicly protesting the tuition increases or empowering students by creating voter registration, education, and mobilization opportunities, we’re here to serve the students. In an effort to make a difference, we encourage our campus constituents to be engaged in our communities and are ready to support student clubs and orgs with supplemental funding for their events. Our vision is the reason for our organization, the Associated Students, Incorporated (A.S.I.). In fact, A.S.I. could be thought of as a tree. The roots of the tree are the students. Thanks to a portion of your student fees, A.S.I. has the $1.5 million dollar budget necessary to function. And since A.S.I. is completely run by the students, those students are responsible for allocating that budget to satisfy the needs of the university student community. This allows for a budget that is constantly changing to fit the mold of what best serves students. The trunk of the A.S.I. tree is our vision statement. It’s the foundation of everything we do and any service that A.S.I. creates or supports will be developed with that in mind. It’s the “why” of A.S.I. The branches that stem off the tree would be the “how” and the flowers that blossom from those branches are the “what” we do. The flowers are the services that attract people to A.S.I. Key initiatives such as the National Voter Registration Day, Life After College, and the Alternative Break Summer Service Learning Project are the flowers that let students know we are advocating and representing them across campus. To have these flowers blossom, we need to have the proper branches to support them. That’s where our dedicated team of Executives, College Representatives, Academic Senators, Commissioners, Justices, Volunteers (Screaming Eagles Street Team), and Student/Professional Staff come in. Our team is the “how” that allows for our “what” to happen. I would like to thank you for investing in this organization and supporting our vision, “Ignite Potential and Empower Student Voices.” Remember, you too are a part of the A.S.I. family. ALCOHOL AWARENESS WEEK
The Center for Student Involvement, Student Health Center, Public Safety, and Housing are collaborating to educate the campus community about alcohol consumption, sobering up myths, and alert signs to watch out for. It’s all in effort to make sure you’re safe and responsible when socially drinking. In addition to information resources and videos, we will be providing a new obstacle course so students can experience firsthand the effects of drinking and/or texting while driving. GOLDEN EAGLE PRIDE & SPIRIT
A.S.I. supports campaigns directed by our Spirit Commissioner who organizes and maintains school spirit initiatives and programs. While developing and implementing campus pride initiatives throughout the academic year, the Spirit Commissioner is charged with supporting Cal State LA Athletics and encouraging club and Greek participation in large-scale and campus walkway events. SCREAMING EAGLES STREET TEAM
The Screaming Eagles Volunteer Street Team gives Cal State LA students the opportunity to work towards increasing campus pride. The Screaming Eagles promote A.S.I. events, solicit participation in programs, and assist in the planning of campus initiatives. Serving as a Screaming Eagle is a great experience, but participation also requires a commitment to attend regular meetings and to submit reports on a periodic basis. Under the leadership of the A.S.I. Environmental Affairs Commissioner, the Environmental Policy Committee (EPC) formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make Cal State LA and the CSU System more environmentally sustainable. The Environmental Affairs Commissioner and EPC act as education agents with respect to environmental sustainability and environmental justice in our community. The Cabinet of College Representatives supports college representatives by opening lines of communication and collaboration between Cal State LA’s six colleges and various disciplines. Under the direct supervision of the A.S.I. President, college representatives work together to ensure collaboration on student needs and concerns on campus.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY COMMITTEE MEETINGS
The Environmental Policy Committee works to educate students and faculty on environmental sustainability and environmental justice. In collaboration with Cal State LA administrators, this committee formulates and encourages the adoption of policies that will make A.S.I. and Cal State LA more environmentally sustainable.
