Configure SAP HANA Smart Data Streaming Server Connection Streaming data processing in real-time Smart data streaming provides the ability to process incoming event streams in real-time, as fast as the data arrives, capturing the desired data in the SAP HANA database, as well as monitoring the data, generating alerts and notifications as desired. Data flows into a streaming project running on the streaming cluster through adapters, which provide the connectivity to data sources.

Continuous queries contained in the streaming projects turn the raw input into the desired output. Data is then pushed out to destination sources through output adapters which are connected to the streams or windows in the project.

The smart data streaming server runs as a separate server in the SAP HANA landscape, separate from, but interacting with, the SAP HANA database.

Smart data streaming is a technique for analyzing information about events, in real time, for situational awareness.

When vast numbers of event messages are flooding in, it is difficult to see the big picture. With smart data streaming, you can analyze events as they stream in, and identify emerging threats and opportunities as they happen.

Smart data streaming filters, aggregates, and summarizes data to enable better decision-making based on more complete and timely information. Unlike traditional databases, which are designed for on-demand queries and transaction processing, smart data streaming is optimized for continuous queries.

Thus, instead of replacing databases, it complements them to help solve new classes of problems where continuous, event-driven data analysis is required

SAP HANA Smart Data Streaming Deployments This figure shows a typical smart data streaming deployment. Continuous queries, developed and tested as projects using the SAP HANA smart data streaming plugin for SAP HANA studio , are deployed to an SAP HANA smart data streaming server. Output adapters translate rows processed by the server into message formats that are compatible with external destinations, such as SAP HANA, and send those messages downstream.

Getting Results from a Streaming Project

■ The output from smart data streaming can be used in several ways. These options are not mutually exclusive, ■ and can be used in any combination.

■ Push output into SAP HANA database tables, either by logging events in the tables, or by updating database tables based on the results of continuous queries ■ Send output to downstream applications to act on the information. The output can be pushed directly to an application (via an adapter), or published onto a message bus.

■ For example, you can open an urgent work order in response to new information, or change a price based on market conditions ■ Stream output to a live operational dashboard, or other custom UI, typically via Web Sockets.
