I have a tree. It grows with me straight and tall. You will see.

My mom said if I drink my milk and eat the things I should, I will grow up big and strong.

She said I would.

I share my milk with my tree.

The rain washes it in.

Look. Come see.

When I am scared and feel alone, I hug my tree. It’s there for me.

I tell it stories of things to come like Christmas, Easter and Halloween, and all the places I want to go when I grow.

I share my secrets with my tree.

There is a boy. He makes me smile. He’s very kind and very smart. I kind of think he’s won my heart.

I’m going to take a pen and paper and write his name on it for only me to see. I don’t think my tree would mind if I taped the paper on it.

It is fun to have secrets to share with my tree. I know it listens to everything I say. It’s very good that way.

And I share my tree with my friends. We run around and frolic on it.

Hide and seek is lots of fun.

Its branches reaching out so very far, we even put a swing upon it.

Running, jumping, laughing a lot and when the sun is so very hot, we sit under the tree and rest our weary heads.

We tell stories sitting under my tree. I told a joke. I know I heard it laugh with me.

While the wind is playing, rushing all around, over and under, between all its branches, we watch the leaves do little dances.

We jump up to play, hands high in the air, swirling, turning, dancing along, laughing and singing a little song.

The leaves are nodding up and down.

That’s when the wind comes around.

I was sittings under my tree one day and all the leaves were falling on the ground.

I ran inside and asked my mom, “Is my tree sick?�

“No,” she said. “It’s the fall and time for your tree to have a rest.”

“Will my hair fall out and will I have to rest just like my tree?”

I asked.

“No,” she smiled and said. “Your tree is fine. It’s just nature’s way of nuturing. When spring comes around new leaves will grow again.”

Well, that’s okay. I guess. There are so many things I don’t understand, but there will come a time when I can.

Winter is here. The snow has come.

My friends and I make a snow fort around my tree and a snowman to keep it company.

We tell stories of lands and castles far, far away. There are kings and queens with merry-go-rounds, and knights on horses carrying lances. They even wear tin pants-es in a place called Camelot, where everyone there eats ham a lot.

The sun was shining, oh, so bright.

The snow was melting, as day turned to night.

“Spring is coming!” my mom said just last night. Now all my friends want a tree. It’s so much fun as you can see.

They are running home to ask their mom to help them plant a tree in their yard, just like me.
