A Love Letter to Winter at Aspen Snowmass

For the dawn patrollers and the full mooners.

The après crowd and the knuckle draggers.

For the creatives, culture lovers, and connoisseurs.

The howlers and the whoopers.

For the old-timers and the groms.

We ask ourselves:

How do we keep this life around forever?

We can lean in.

Get out.

Show up.

And yes, sometimes throw down.

We can find the light.

Just remember to keep it light.

Fill our cups and drink it all up.

So, for the love of fresh turns, we make the trek.

For the love of community, we celebrate joy.

For the love of this place, we honor the past.

And for the love of our planet, we take the long view.

Skiing, riding, connecting.

For more than 75 years, we’ve strived to make a difference— inspiring mind, body, and spirit for a better season, and a better world.

Long love Aspen. Long love skiing.

FOUR PERFECT DAYS AT ASPEN SNOWMASS

Boot-deep turns on bluebird days, long lunches with the Elk Mountains for a backdrop, family fun on and off-mountain, and romantic moments downtown— the range of experiences at Aspen Snowmass is vast. Whether you’re traveling with friends, as a couple, or bringing the entire family along, there are endless possibilities for adventure, relaxation, and memory-making. There’s really no wrong way to explore our four mountains, boasting more than 5,700 acres of skiing and riding. From gentle slopes for learning to expert-only terrain, family-friendly activities to sophisticated nightlife, an escape to Aspen Snowmass offers an unmatched winter experience. Here’s how to maximize four days and nights across each of our four unique mountains.

FOUR PERFECT DAYS: DAY ONE

Snowmass – Where Adventure Meets Convenience

Wake up to the largest of our four mountains, offering the most lift-served vertical in the United States and 95% ski-in/ski-out lodging. With nearly 100 trails spread across more than 3,300 acres, Snowmass is a mountain you could explore for an entire season. Expert terrain? It’s here. Long winding greens? Check. Fine dining on the mountain? Yes. Activities for non-skiers? Snowmass has it all.

If you’re traveling with children, the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center welcomes little ones with a perfect mix of indoor and on-snow play. For everyone else, head up Village Express and over to the Big Burn lift, where Powerline Trees hold pristine snow and Sneaky’s offers sweeping intermediate turns with outstanding views.

With nearly 100 trails spread across more than 3,300 acres, Snowmass is a mountain you could explore for an entire season.

Break for lunch at Sam’s for modern Italian fine dining featuring flavorful pastas, wines, and their signature Negroni Spritz. Or experience Alsatian home cooking at Alpin Room, where soulful, scratch-made dishes like tomato soup, braised short ribs, chicken schnitzel, and potato and caramelized onion fondue tartiflette bring a taste of the Alps to the Rockies. Both on-mountain restaurants feature floor-to-ceiling windows with incredible views. After lunch, don’t miss the photo opportunity at the top of Elk Camp chairlift, where the Maroon Bells create a perfect backdrop.

As the afternoon winds down, gather the family for some of Snowmass’ signature activities. Race down the Alpine Coaster or try snow tubing at Elk Camp, or show off your skills at the ice rink in Base Village. Don’t miss the free s’mores—a beloved daily tradition.

In the Evening

As day turns to night, Snowmass offers unique mountain dining experiences. For dinner, explore the Village’s excellent options like Il Poggio, Aurum, or Kenichi. If you’re lucky enough to visit during an Ullr Night, take the evening gondola back up to Elk Camp for a magical winter celebration under the stars. Don’t miss The Cabin, a recently upgraded on-mountain restaurant that offers an unforgettable snowcat dining adventure. Guests are transported via snowcat through the quiet evening slopes to this charming cabin, where they’re treated to an elevated dining experience with stunning alpine views. Families can settle in at Base Camp Bar & Grill for casual dining and games, while couples might prefer the sophisticated atmosphere of TORO at the Viceroy or the warmth of the Limelight Lounge with its live music.

Off Skis

Snowmass offers endless possibilities beyond the slopes. At the Snowmass Recreation Center, reset with a workout or swim in the temperature-controlled outdoor pool, framed by mountain vistas. Spark creativity with an art class at Anderson Ranch Arts Center or join ACES naturalists for a guided snowshoe tour. Families will find plenty of entertainment between the Base Village ice-skating rink, indoor rock climbing wall at Limelight Snowmass, and games at The Collective. Did you know that Snowmass is the site of the largest Ice Age fossil discovery in the world? Dig deeper and complete a selfguided Ice Age Passport Walk or attend a guided Ice Age Explorer Tour led by an Aspen Science Center educator.

SNOWMASS

Larger than all three of our other mountains combined, Snowmass has unlimited potential for exploration. Experts find their thrills in the steep chutes of Hanging Valley and the Cirque, families cruise wide-open groomers beneath the Big Burn lift, and tree-skiing enthusiasts disappear into perfectly spaced glades. But Snowmass offers more than just legendary skiing and riding—mid-mountain adventures at Elk Camp include the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster and tubing lanes, while a vibrant Base Village pulses with energy, delivering dining, shopping, and entertainment for all ages. With 95% ski-in/ ski-out lodging and a spirit that embraces both adrenaline and relaxation, Snowmass turns mountain dreams into reality.

TRAILS LEGEND

If they’re walking, they’re ready.

More skiing for them and more savings for you—kids ski free when you rent their gear from Four Mountain Sports.

FOUR PERFECT DAYS: DAY TWO

Buttermilk – Where Mountain Dreams Grow Big

On your second day, discover Buttermilk, a mountain that’s been welcoming skiers since 1958 with its perfect blend of beginnerfriendly terrain and advanced hidden gems. Early risers can embrace a local favorite tradition: skinning or hiking up the mountain. On Fridays, reward your climb with signature Cliffhouse breakfast fried rice topped with a farm egg or thick-cut French toast with crisp bacon at the Friday Morning Uphill Breakfast Club. Toast your achievement with specialty drinks from the bar, including bloody marys and mimosas.

The newly renovated Guest Service Center offers an easy way to get everything you need in one place.

If you’re traveling with little ones, The Hideout—one of North America’s most renowned centers for ski education—makes getting started a breeze. The newly renovated Guest Service Center offers an easy way to get everything you need in one place. For first-timers, Panda Peak offers the perfect learning environment with its forgiving pitch and short chairlift ride. Young adventurers will be enchanted by Fort Frog, a magical outdoor playground featuring a slide, rope bridge, snowball launcher, faux jail, and rope hammocks where imagination runs wild.

More experienced skiers can take Summit Express to the top and discover why locals love this mountain. Duck into the trees between Savo and Friedl’s, or explore Timber Doodle Glade, where powder stashes often remain untouched days after storms. Tiehack promises a steeper, groomed pitch if arcing turns is what you’re after.

For lunch, ride to the mountaintop Cliffhouse Restaurant, where Mongolian Grill and Vietnamese Pho are served alongside panoramic views of Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Creek Valley. In the afternoon, explore family-friendly trails like Toad’s Road and Moose Alley, where cutout creatures greet you along the way.

End your day at the Backyard at Buttermilk Mountain Lodge, warming up with cocktails on the heated outdoor patio while watching skilled athletes practice on the X Games superpipe.

In the Evening

After a fun-filled day on Buttermilk, walk over to Home Team for local BBQ in one of Aspen’s favorite casual hangouts. In town, twinkling lights and storefronts set the scene for your evening. Families can engage in the hands-on fun of making their own pizzas at Brunelleschi’s, while couples might opt for shared plates and craft cocktails at Ajax Tavern. For a more elevated experience, secure a reservation at Matsuhisa for world-class sushi, or slip into Bad Harriet for sophisticated cocktails in a speakeasy atmosphere. End the night with live jazz floating through The Little Nell’s Living Room.

If you’ve timed your visit with a full moon, consider a magical alternative: strap on a headlamp and skin up Buttermilk for a Full Moon Dinner. Offered only a few times each winter, these special evenings feature natural lunar light illuminating your path up the mountain, culminating in a warm, cozy meal at Cliffhouse.

Off Skis

Start with a guided tour of the Aspen Art Museum, where the striking architecture is as compelling as the contemporary exhibitions inside. Wander the streets of Aspen, exploring luxury boutiques and local galleries along Galena Street and Cooper Avenue. Families can make an afternoon of visiting the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies for interactive nature programs, while couples might enjoy booking a rejuvenating massage at The Little Nell to ease into the altitude.

BUTTERMILK

Buttermilk is an easygoing mountain beloved by kids and kids at heart. Here, anyone can learn the snow-sliding basics on perfectly pitched beginner terrain and meandering groomers, with children under six skiing free on Panda Peak. The mountain features multiple terrain parks including the renowned X Games venue—home to the superpipe and big air jump that have hosted the world’s best freestyle athletes for over two decades. Morning uphillers chase sunrise on Buttermilk’s slopes, families discover their flow on forgiving trails, and powder seekers find untouched stashes in scenic glades days after a storm. From The Hideout’s world-class learning center to the newly renovated base area with its vibrant après scene at The Backyard, Buttermilk proves that a mountain can be both approachable and exciting. Here, every day feels like recess, and everyone’s invited to play.

FOUR PERFECT DAYS: DAY THREE

Aspen Highlands – A Powder Day Paradise

Mother Nature has smiled upon your stay with fresh snowfall, and nothing commemorates a powder day more perfectly than a visit to Aspen Highlands’ 1,010 acres of locally-loved terrain. Begin your morning on flowing runs like Meadows or Kandahar beneath Loge Peak lift. As your legs warm up, expert skiers will head to Deep Temerity lift, where today’s powder promises face shots on the sustained pitch of Soddbuster and Kessler’s.

Feeling ready for the ultimate rite of passage? Highland Bowl awaits. Stop by the Ski Patrol HQ deck on Loge Peak for a view of your objective and to grab a ski strap for the hike. The 800-foot (244 meters) climb to an elevation of 12,392 feet (3,777 meters) will reward you with sweeping vistas of the Elk Range and the Maroon Bells—and today, untracked powder. Take those essential summit photos before dropping into what will likely be the most memorable runs of your trip.

Feeling ready for the ultimate rite of passage? Highland Bowl

Spend your afternoon exploring based on your comfort level. Families and intermediate skiers can enjoy the moderate bumps off Cloud Nine chairlift, while powder seekers can dive into the tree lines of Olympic Bowl. As the day winds down, gather at the base area where, especially in spring, the atmosphere turns festive with music and all manner of skiers sharing stories of their mountain memories.

In the Evening

Begin your evening at Highlands Alehouse, where locals and visitors alike gather to swap tales of their Highland Bowl adventures. Couples seeking a romantic evening might choose the refined ambiance of Cache Cache or sample local brews at Aspen Brewing Company in town. For a truly enchanted experience, book a starlit sleigh ride to dinner at Pine Creek Cookhouse, where the journey through snowy woods is as memorable as the meal itself. During March and April, the Hi-Fi Music Series brings renowned artists like The Revivalists and Nathaniel Rateliff to downtown Aspen, perfect for dancing under the stars.

Hotel Jerome has been the social hub of Aspen since its opening in 1889 at the height of the town’s silver boom, known as the place where all great stories were born and told. As the only Aspen hotel to survive the silver crash, and the Great Depression, we’ve seen cowboys ride through our doors, 10th Mountain Division soldiers gather round over pints after training on the slopes, and Hunter S. Thompson holding court during his run for sheriff. You can’t experience Aspen without experiencing the Hotel Jerome.

Our Values in Action

At Aspen Snowmass, We Take the Long View

In 1946, Aspen installed the world’s longest chairlift with the collective efforts of the local community, veterans of the 10th Mountain Division, and Chicago industrialists Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke—who helped pave the way for a modern Aspen where mind, body, and spirit could be equally engaged.

Since then, we’ve led the ski industry in environmental stewardship, hospitality, arts and culture, and of course, skiing and riding. But we’re not done yet. What if the place you choose to recreate isn’t just a business that sells you lift tickets and gear rentals, but has a bigger mission? What if it uses some of its revenue, and a lot of its labor, to have an impact on issues like climate change, clean energy, affordable housing, and racial justice?

At Aspen Snowmass, we’re bridging our values with work and play. We want to inspire you—in mind, body, and spirit—to create change in the world that keeps skiing, and everything we love about it, around forever.

“Snowmass Base Village has it all— from comedy at the Collective and s’mores at the end of the ski day to great shops and restaurants.”
Irena Nelson, Hot Springs Village, AR
