Four Mountains.

Two Towns.

One Lift Ticket.

Located in the heart of the central Rocky Mountains, Aspen Snowmass is a destination like no other. Here, four unique mountains—Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass—are all accessible on a single lift ticket and united by a deep sense of place. For more than 75 years, nature, culture, and recreation have collided at Aspen Snowmass, inviting you to engage your mind, body, and spirit. Come see for yourself this winter.

Welcome to Winter Made Easy

From the small details to the big picture, at Aspen Snowmass, we know it’s the little things that can have a lasting impact. Not only do we have extraordinary mountains—all within 15 minutes of one another—but we prioritize the ease with which you can enjoy them all.

• Travel: Our airport is centered between both towns, and with most lodges offering complimentary airport transfers, you’re sure to receive the warm welcome you deserve.

• Exploration: Complimentary local shuttles can take you between all our mountains and both towns until 2am.

• Purchases: Choose from our extensive network of global partners and book with a local travel expert. Whether you just have a few questions, want to secure lodging, lessons, and lift tickets, or would like a personalized vacation itinerary built out—our agents manage the specifics so you can forge lasting experiences.

• Gear: The right equipment makes all the difference. Four Mountain Sports is the only ski shop located at each of our four base areas, so dialing in your gear—whether you want to rent or buy—is the priority it should be.

• Relaxation: Our rental shops and ski corrals will transfer your skis from one mountain to the next for free, giving you the freedom to ski any of our mountains without the hassle of lugging your gear around and allowing you more time to après ski or soak in the hot tub.

Aspen Mountain

Welcome to one of America’s oldest, most legendary ski hills. With its world-class terrain and slopeside access to historic downtown, Aspen Mountain calls to anyone with a taste for adventure. Locally known as “Ajax,” our crown jewel just got bigger with the opening of Hero’s, 153 acres of new intermediate-to-advanced chutes and glades—plus unmatched views of Independence Pass—all accessed via a high-speed quad. Aspen will take you above and beyond with its storied past and fresh perspective.

Aspen Mountain’s newest runs honor many of those who helped build Aspen, like Percy Rideout—a lesserknown hero pictured here working timber on the original A1 lift line in 1946.

A Day on Aspen Mountain

It’s 9am in Aspen, and the town’s mountain with its 828 acres and more than 3,260 vertical feet (994m) is waking up. The Silver Queen Gondola, with its sleek black and bright red cabins, is now whisking people up to 11,242 feet (just over 3,426m) so they can greet the day. Aspen Mountain has a perfect, sustained pitch, making the mountain feel a lot bigger than it is—from exploring flowy terrain to dipping into sneaky gullies or tree lines, it’s all here. After taking in the incredible views on your ride up, make some swift turns down North American for breakfast at Bonnie’s—famous for its old-timey decor, rustic feel, and legendary pancakes.

Once you’ve had your fill of coffee and nostalgia, it’s time to head up the Ajax Express for some quick burner laps on Silver Bell, a winding groomer, or Pussyfoot or Blondies for some low-angle bumps. Then, load up F.I.S. chair to lay your edges into Ruthie’s—a long intermediate trail inviting you to carve down famed sections of the World Cup America’s Downhill™ course. If it’s a powder day, the Dumps—aspen-covered, east-facing terrain that holds snow perfectly—is a treasure trove of deep turns. Ready for more adventure? Head over to Hero’s, 153 new acres of skiing and riding accessed by a brand-new, high-speed quad. The terrain—With 19 chutes (double black), four main runs (black), and three lower, gladed sections (blue) all making up the area’s two zones, Hero’s Chutes #1 and Hero’s Chutes #2, this terrain holds plenty of ski town lore as well as breathtaking vistas of Independence Pass.

When it’s time for lunch, make your way to the top of Aspen Mountain for a bite at the Sundeck, a legendary Bauhaus-style lodge. If members of your crew aren’t skiing or riding, this is the perfect time for them to purchase a sightseeing ticket, ride up the gondola and enjoy a midday, on-mountain meal with you while taking in expansive views of the Elk Mountains. After lunch, top-to-bottom turns down Bell Mountain are a must—and an excellent photo op with the Silver Queen Gondola shining in the background.

Once the day is done, all trails lead to downtown Aspen, where the world’s best après scene is pumping with activity. Step out of your skis and refuel with a drink and a bite at the base of the mountain at Ajax Tavern, or step it up a notch with a glass of wine at The Little Nell, honored with the “Best Hotel Wine List in the World” award by The World of Fine Wine Looking for live music? Dance the night away at the Belly Up, an intimate downtown music venue known for hosting top-performing artists like Leon Bridges, Rodrigo y Gabriela, B.B. King, and more. Wanting a night out on the town? The possibilities are endless with parties at Michelin Star restaurants, DJs at local bars, or the many family-friendly events that fill the calendar throughout winter—including free evening concerts and community-centered celebrations like Wintersköl in January, complete with fireworks and festive cheer.

Ready for a rest day? Wind down and recharge with a visit to the newly renovated Spa at The Little Nell before setting off into town. Whether you’re exploring the Aspen Institute, the Aspen Art Museum, the plethora of galleries dotting each street, or just taking in the natural landscape of the Elk Range, masterpieces abound and art lovers rejoice. Downtown Aspen is also a shopper’s paradise, with a dozen walkable blocks packed with high-end, luxury stores, as well as gift shops, gear stores, and boutiques. From the mountain to the town, it won’t take long to see why this place is legendary.

Aspen Highlands

Highlands is a locally loved landscape that’s wild but always welcoming. Whether you’re skiing and riding from first to last chair or toasting the day at the energized après experience found only at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro, Highlands’ eccentric spirit embraces freedom and individuality. Expert trails are everywhere up high, wide groomers flow from midmountain, and Highland Bowl, with its legendary in-bounds hike-to-terrain, beckons from above. After one day on its slopes, you’ll know—Aspen Highlands was born different.

Lung-busting for most and lapable for some, hiking the ridge and descending the Highland Bowl will likely be considered the most adventurous (and fulfilling) ski or ride experience at Aspen Highlands, if not all of Aspen Snowmass.

A Day at Aspen Highlands

Looking up at Aspen Highlands from Maroon Creek Road will leave most people in awe. With trails racing down its jagged frontside and Highland Peak peering through the clouds in the background, the mountain’s sheer relief and unique topography calls to anyone seeking a thrill in the Rocky Mountains. 144 trails are spread across 1,010 acres and 3,638 vertical feet (1,109m) of mostly intermediate and advanced terrain, but those with basic skills can enjoy cruising the blue runs offered at lower mid-mountain. Aspen Highlands provides a wide range of experiences—from spraying bubbly and enjoying delicious fare at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro to exploring the one-of-a-kind Highland Bowl—and it’s a beloved favorite of both newcomers and long-time locals.

If it’s a clear day, warm up on the groomers below Loge Peak lift like Meadows or Kandahar. Then make big, giant slalom turns down the perfectly groomed front side of the mountain on Thunder Bowl, where local kids learn the art of ski racing and freestyle mogul skiing with the beloved Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. If it’s a powder day, lucky you. Hop on Exhibition, then Loge Peak chair, and head straight for the Deep Temerity lift, where face shots are promised on the sustained pitch of Soddbuster and Kessler’s.

Regardless of the conditions, if you’re an advanced-to-expert skier or boarder, hiking and skiing Highland Bowl at Aspen Highlands is not to be missed. Topping out at 12,392 feet (3,777m) above sea level, this vast, mostly open, 270-acre powder playground is the closest thing to a European Alpine experience in the central Rockies. Before starting your 800-foot (245-meter) hike up the ridge, pop into the Highlands Ski Patrol Headquarters to take in views of the Bowl, thank a patroller, and buy a ski strap so you don’t have to shoulder your skis on the hike. Lung-busting for most and lapable for some, hiking the ridge and descending the Highland Bowl will likely be considered the most adventurous (and fulfilling) ski or ride experience at Aspen Highlands, if not all of Aspen Snowmass. With sweeping vistas of the Elk Range and the Maroon Bells, photos at the top are a prized possession, so take some snaps before making your descent down the double black terrain.

Once you’ve skied the Bowl, you’ll ride up Deep Temerity and it’ll surely be time for lunch. Cruise down to Merry-Go-Round where organic food meets a welcoming bar at this midmountain, market-style eatery. Or, plan ahead to secure a reservation at the legendary Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro. Located in what used to be patrol headquarters, Cloud Nine is a storied cabin known for its views of the Maroon Bells and its abundance of fondue, raclette, and champagne parties. After lunch, it’s time to explore the tree lines in Olympic Bowl and the moderate bumps off Cloud Nine chairlift. If it’s spring, the closing day après celebrations are legendary, complete with DJs, dance parties, and costumes at the base of the mountain.

A purist’s mountain, Aspen Highlands welcomes ski bums to revel in open-to-close, quad-burning laps while party lovers take in unmatched views and vibes. The range of rowdy offerings will have you remembering your day at Aspen Highlands for years to come.

Buttermilk

Buttermilk is an easy-going mountain beloved by kids and kids at heart. Here, anyone can learn the snow-sliding basics, master tricks in the terrain parks, perfect their form on rolling groomers, or elevate their fitness by skinning up the hill. It’s a playground for all abilities, from first-timers to the world’s best freestylers— having now hosted the X Games for more than 20 years. At Buttermilk, it’s all-day recess, all winter long.

A Day at Buttermilk

Buttermilk opened in 1958 as a place for children and beginners from all over the world to learn to ski. Conveniently located between the towns of Aspen and Snowmass, the mountain offers moderate rolling trails with a gentle pitch, as well as an extra-accessible base area with lessons, rentals, and delicious food all available within steps of each other. Nearly 470 skiable acres of perfectly groomed blue and green trails weave down the mountain, but don’t let that fool you—the mountain’s mix of exceptional, uncrowded black diamonds, moguls, and tree skiing keep even experts entertained.

In the morning, easy, curbside skier and rider drop-offs make getting the kids to Ski & Snowboard School a breeze. Little ones will love learning at The Hideout, one of North America’s most renowned centers for ski and snowboard education, connected to the Guest Services building. This newly renovated space, right at the base of the mountain, acts as a one-stop shop to purchase tickets, rent gear, shop for any last-minute on-mountain needs, or simply relax in the day lounge. Those brand-new to skiing or snowboarding can enjoy their first turns off Panda Peak—a short chairlift delivering you to a mellow, forgiving ski hill at the bottom of the mountain.

If you’re a more experienced skier or rider, take Summit Express to the top of the mountain and get your blood pumping by popping into the trees between Savio and Friedl’s before arcing some turns down Lover’s Lane to Columbine. Ride the lift back up and test your legs on Ptarmigan Glade or Racer’s Edge off Tiehack Express. Be sure to drop into Timber Doodle Glade to find powder stashes that often remain untouched for days after a snowstorm. Looking to try something a little different? Throughout the day, uphillers climb the mountain for fitness and fresh air while skiers and riders of every level—including professionals—can be found in any of the mountain’s five impressive terrain parks, including the one that has hosted the world’s greatest athletes at X Games Aspen for nearly 25 years.

When it’s time for lunch, fuel up at the mountaintop Cliffhouse Restaurant, featuring a Mongolian Grill, Vietnamese Pho, and panoramic views of Pyramid Peak and Maroon Creek Valley. The Cliffhouse is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, providing the setting for community-centered uphilling events including the Friday Uphill Breakfast and Full Moon Dinners, where a hike up the mountain is followed by an incredible feast. You can also cruise down to the main base for a meal at Buttermilk Mountain Lodge, serving Mediterranean-inspired pastas, salads, house-made soups, and more. After you’ve had your fill, head back out to explore the various runs off West Buttermilk Express in the afternoon. If you’re with the whole family, laps down any of the kids trails like Toad’s Road, Moose Alley, or Wookie Woods will include cutout creatures and critters greeting you along the way. When the day is done, make your way to The Backyard at Buttermilk Mountain Lodge, which boasts an indoor bar and heated outdoor seating on a patio with views of the X Games superpipe and big air jump line. Sit back and enjoy cocktails and shared bites—it’s time to swap some stories.

Snowmass

Larger than all three of our other mountains combined, Snowmass has unlimited potential for exploration. Vast in both charm and terrain, the mountain’s expansive 3,300-acre layout includes burly steeps, inviting glades, and endless bumps, jumps, and groomers as well as mid-mountain offerings for fun off skis like the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, tubing, and more. A Day on Snowmass

Just 15 minutes from Aspen, nestled in Brush Creek Valley, is the little town of Snowmass Village. Rising above are the rolling hills and looming peaks that make up Snowmass—the largest mountain at Aspen Snowmass boasting the most lift-served vertical in the United States. Entire families and groups would be hard-pressed to explore its 96 ski trails, 4,406 vertical feet (1,343m), and more than 3,300 acres of skiing and riding in a full ski season, let alone in a week’s visit. And with the installation of Coney Express, the new high-speed quad originating across from the Snowmass Mall and dropping skiers and riders at mid-mountain, getting around just got easier. Beginner trails? There are tons. Expert lines? Plenty of those, too. At Snowmass, there’s room for everyone’s adventure.

Snowmass offers the most ski-in/ski-out lodging in the area, so it’s easy to start the day at your own pace, clipping into your skis right outside your door. If you’re looking for some solo time, drop your little ones at the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, a childcare facility located right at the base of the mountain catering to ages one through four and mixing indoor and onsnow play. From there, make your way up Village Express and over to the Big Burn lift. On this part of the mountain, snow lingers in the low-angle pine glades of Powerline Trees, and sweeping turns down Sneaky’s—an intermediate groomer with outstanding views—will fire up your limbs. Up for a challenge? Hanging Valley Wall provides sheer, expert lines that serve as a venue for big mountain competitions. When it’s time for lunch, Snowmass has some excellent elevated dining options, like modern Italian at Sam’s, a reimagination of Alsatian home cooking at Alpin Room, and Lynn Britt Cabin, with a rustic feel inside and lively après outside. When the day is done, reconvene with your whole group to enjoy beers or cocktails at locally-loved bars like Venga Venga or Ranger Station in Snowmass Mall, or gather at the Collective in Base Village for drinks and activities.

If it’s a day for the whole family, hop on the Elk Camp Gondola and explore the mid-mountain beginner trails or cascading intermediate runs like Bear Bottom or Funnel; and be sure to take advantage of the photo op at the top of Elk Camp Chairlift where the Maroon Bells are perfectly framed in the backdrop. Off skis, you can ride the Alpine Coaster, go snow tubing, or relax on the deck. When it’s time to ski or ride the gondola down, family fun and entertainment for all ages await in Snowmass Village. Grab some free s’mores—provided daily at 3pm—and hit the ice rink. At dinnertime, hopping on a free bus into Aspen is easy, or take advantage of the many dining options right in Snowmass such as Il Poggio, Aurum, or Kenichi. On select nights during the peak of winter season you and your family can honor Ullr (the Norse god of snow) with Ullr Nights, a nighttime winter wonderland party at Elk Camp. Bundle up to take an evening gondola ride to Elk Camp Restaurant for an à la carte culinary celebration and enjoy outdoor winter activities such as tubing, laps on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, and treats by the bonfire. Afterwards, late-night cocktails and gatherings abound down in Snowmass Village—but rest up, there will be more to explore tomorrow.

OUR VALUES IN ACTION

At Aspen Snowmass, We Take the Long View

In 1946, Aspen installed the world’s longest chairlift with the collective efforts of the local community, veterans of the 10th Mountain Division, and Chicago industrialists Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke—who helped pave the way for a modern Aspen where mind, body, and spirit could be equally engaged.

Since then, we’ve led the ski industry in environmental stewardship, hospitality, arts and culture, and of course, skiing and riding... but we’re not done yet. What if the place you choose to recreate isn’t just a business that sells you lift tickets and gear rentals, but has a bigger mission? What if it uses some of its revenue, and a lot of its labor, to have an impact on issues like climate change, clean energy, affordable housing, and racial justice?

At Aspen Snowmass, we’re bridging our values with work and play. We want to inspire you—in mind, body, and spirit—to create change in the world that keeps skiing, and everything we love about it, around forever.
