“In here, life is beautiful,” a line from Cabaret, captures so much and is exactly what we strive to convey with each performance. We create beautiful worlds that span time, place, and circumstance. Beauty, however, that sometimes stings, provokes, and makes our hearts ache.

As I enter my final season as Asolo Rep’s Producing Artistic Director, we continue to rebuild as we emerge from the pandemic. This season is a celebration as well as a reminder of our sense of family, community, and empathy.

Live theatre is essential to who we are as a culture, both locally and globally. We look to theatre to provide relief, understanding, and hope. As you experience this season, these performances will warm your heart while also providing some reflection about our challenging world.

We are thrilled to continue to produce an array of exceptional theatrical works for our audiences – those that have been with us for years as well as new members to Asolo Rep’s family. Since its debut in 1967, this classic musical has won countless awards, including the Tony Awards® for Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Revival of a Musical. Harrowing adventure, bravery, and friendship take center stage in Ken Ludwig’s THE THREE MUSKETEERS, a thrilling adaptation of the popular novel by Alexandre Dumas. One of the world’s most enduring comedies, this classic tells the tale of a daring young man who finds himself in the company of the world’s greatest swordsmen, as well as some of the world’s most dangerous men and women. Directed by Peter Amster, who most recently directed Asolo Rep’s smash hit Murder on the Orient Express in 2020, this play promises to be a fast-paced, witty, swashbuckling good time. Full of wonder, humor, and heart, SILENT SKY is the remarkable true story of Henrietta Leavitt, one of the pioneering women astronomers working at Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s. You will be enthralled by the story of this extraordinary woman who took on the astronomy establishment in order to discover the mysteries embedded in the sky. Written by one of today’s leading playwrights, Lauren Gunderson, this mesmerizing drama is directed

by Seema Sueko, who recently brought this work to life at Washington D.C.’s Ford’s Theatre.

LOOKING FOR ITHACA: AN ODYSSEY

Written by JESS SHOEMAKER Developed with and directed by GABY RODRIGUEZ LOOKING FOR ITHACA: AN ODYSSEY is a 45-minute imaginative retelling of Homer’s classic the Odyssey – a journey of a family that has been fractured by war and unseen forces. The story is told through the eyes of a family fighting their way back to one another: Odysseus, a father whose yearning for his wife and child drives him to traverse the dangers hidden in the sea; Penelope, a mother protecting what’s left of her home and her family; and Telemachus, a son embarking on an Odyssey of his own, looking to fill the shoes of an unknown father. They may return home, but that isn’t where their journey ends.

Current health and safety protocols are posted on our website at asolorep.org/safety. All protocols are subject to change.

Refreshments

Drinks and light refreshments are available for purchase at the lobby bar one hour prior to each Mertz Theatre performance. Drinks purchased in Asolo Rep cups with lids are permitted inside the theatre; no food is allowed. Refreshments are made available through a partnership with Morton’s Gourmet Market and Catering.

Hearing Loop System

Asolo Repertory Theatre is now equipped with a hearing loop system in both the Mertz and Cook Theatres to assist those with hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with telecoils (T-Coil). Sound is transmitted directly from our P.A. system without background noise or interference to better serve our patrons. By turning your hearing aid to “T” for reception, you will be able to hear our performances with improved amplification and clarity. Seats in the Mertz NOT equipped with the loop include Row A in the orchestra and Row F in the mezzanine. For those patrons who do not have the T-Coil system, complimentary hearing amplification headsets are available in our lobby for both theatres.

Parking

Free parking is available in front of the theatre, however close proximity parking for weekday matinee performances is limited. Please plan to arrive early. Accessible parking is on the front and east sides, with ramp access to the lobby.

Wheelchair Accommodations

Wheelchair seating is available in all theatres and must be requested in advance. Please call the box office.

Stairs

Mertz Theatre orchestra seating is at street level. An elevator is available to the mezzanine, with a few steps into seats. Balcony seating is steep, and at least one flight of stairs must be maneuvered. In the Cook Theatre, most seats require mobility up or down a small number of stairs.

Directions to Asolo Rep

5555 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Florida 34243 Asolo Rep is adjacent to The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, just one hour south of Tampa and two hours from Orlando.

From I-75, take the University Parkway exit 213 west six miles to the intersection of US 41/Tamiami Trail. Cross through the light and enter The Ringling grounds. Turn right at the parking sign.

Ticket Policies

• Tickets are non-refundable and can only be exchanged for a different date of the same production.

• There is a $4 per ticket handling charge for all phone and internet orders.

• Non-subscription tickets will be charged a $5 fee per ticket for date changes, and require at least 24 hours notice.

• All productions, dates, times, and pricing are current as of August 1, 2022 and are subject to change.
