A MESSAGE FROM ASM GLOBAL

W
hile working on the plans for Latin Heritage Month, I was often reminded of something that I already knew…the diversity of Latino culture. There were a few times that had to check in with my Latino friends and colleagues because I wasn’t certain that I understood some of the cultural nuances. When do I use Hispanic or Latino? What is LatinX? Online sleuthing did little to clarify it for me. What I discovered was that it depends on who you’re asking and for some it’s a matter of preference. In my conversations, I’ve learned that the Latino experience is different depending on geography, but the importance of family seems to be a shared value. I’ve enjoyed working with our ASM Global LATAM team to learn about the history and variance of Carnaval by country. I’ve added Carnaval to my “bucket list”. I’ve had the fortune of traveling to our venues in Brazil, Uruguay and Puerto Rico. Some of my most fond memories were centered around the cuisine and music of each location. Those experiences had a lasting impression and expanded my appreciation for the cultures. I grew up in California, and I can’t help but to feel a sense of familiarity with Latino culture. It has such a prominent influence from the names of our streets, the Mexican food I love, and the overall multicultural makeup of the state. As we celebrate Latin Heritage Month, we hope you enjoy learning about Latin culture from some of the wonderful Latino team members in our company. We are proud to feature a few of our venues that have a strong tie to Latino culture. We hope you try your hand at Salsa in our Latin Dance competition, feel inspired to travel to a Latin American country from our travel pieces, and perhaps take up Spanish lessons or tighten up your “Spanglish”! Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? My current role at ASM Global is the Human Resources Director for the Los Angeles Convention Center. Prior to joining ASM Global, I had 6 years of HR experience in the Security Industry with multiple roles that began as a HR Assistant. I later moved on and have spent the last 7 years at the Los Angeles Convention Center. What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? I believe I am more than an HR Director. I am someone who my team members can rely on when they need advice or if they need someone to just listen. My team members know I will be objective and fair with my feedback, even if they do not agree with it. I believe in treating everyone like they are a guest in my house (HR Office) because this allows for comfort and honesty.

Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? My grandmother had the greatest influence in my life. She came from a humble and hardworking background which made her the strong woman she is today. My grandmother always pushed her children and grandchildren to do their best and always supported us in any way she could. Growing up, my grandmother would remind us of what her childhood was like and how she wanted a better life for her family. My grandmother did not finish elementary school and started working at the age of 12 in the fields of Arizona with her mother. They both worked many jobs to support their families throughout their lives. Her sacrifices made me the person I am today. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? One important thing to understand is there are many Latin countries. Latin traditions vary by each region of the world and not all Latin traditions are the same, as well as languages/dialects. It is polite to get to know someone and their Latin culture instead of assuming you already know. Latin people are very proud of their cultural heritage and to assume someone is from another country or culture is not respectful. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? The influence of many strong people from my culture had a very important role throughout my education and career path. I was raised in believing a good education is very important while supporting my family through the ups and downs. My cultural beliefs guide me to be driven & compassionate while having a career that allows me to help others every day. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I’ve learned that Covid-19 has caused a lot of stress and it is OK to slow down, don’t try to fix everything in one day. It is also important to take time to connect with family and friends as we maintain social distancing. I have learned how much more I appreciate teachers during the remote learning system; being a working parent and having a child in school is not easy. Best piece of advice you ever received? Be yourself and don’t let anyone change that. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I’m currently the Director of Events. I manage the team who executes the private events at Allegiant Stadium. I started my career in Events as an intern at the Moscone Convention Center the summer of my junior year in college. That’s where I fell in love with the Events world and managed to get my next internship at L.A. Live in the Special Events department during my last year at UCLA. Upon graduating, the stars aligned, and I started as an Event Coordinator at Moscone Center. I always wanted to work on the concert side of the business more than the convention center side so after 5.5 years at Moscone, I landed a job at (what was then) Oracle Arena and Oakland Coliseum. After 3 years in Oakland, I was asked to join the opening team for Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

FAMILY TIES IN THE LATINO CULTURE ARE VERY STRONG AND I THINK THAT TRANSLATES IN ALMOST EVERYTHING WE DO.
What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? Typically, my job consists of managing the logistics for events in our building. However, when I moved to Las Vegas to open a brand-new stadium, my duties expanded. I’m part of the team that is developing all of the SOP’s that will structure the way this building operates for years to come. I’m helping lay the foundation for those who will work in this building in the future, which is not something I’ve done in the past, but I’ve learned so much throughout the process. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? The two people who have influenced my life the most are my parents. After establishing success for themselves in Peru, they decided they wanted an even better life for their future family and immigrated to the US in 1982. They started completely from scratch and became very successful in their respective careers in order to provide my sister and myself with the best education and opportunities possible. My parents always lead by example and have continuously instilled in us respect, good judgment, responsibility, and kindheartedness. They’ve shown me that anything is possible if you set your mind to it and work diligently. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? One of the things I wish people understood about Latino culture is the tremendous value we put on family. Family ties in the Latino culture are very strong and I think that translates in almost everything we do. From major life decisions down to the mundane everyday tasks, family is always at the forefront of our minds and shapes who we are. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? Growing up in a Latino household has given me much more cultural awareness in my daily life. In my career, that cultural awareness has helped me work more seamlessly with the diverse groups of people and types of events in this industry. Also, being bilingual is a valuable skill that allows me the opportunity to communicate with a wider community. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I’ve learned how important it is to spend time with your loved ones. We often get so caught up in our daily lives that we forget to take moments for ourselves and be with the ones we love (even if it’s just through Zoom). Best piece of advice you ever received? There are a lot of things in life that are replaceable, but time is not one of them so use it wisely and don’t waste it. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I was hired by SMG in 2004 as Director of Events for the opening team of the Puerto Rico Convention Center. Later, in 2013 I joined the Coliseo de Puerto Rico team, also as Director of Events. Right before the merger, I was hired by AEG now ASM Global as Assistant General Manager for the Coca-Cola Music Hall. I am one of the few people who has worked at all four facilities managed currently by ASM Global. This has given me the opportunity to learn from all the operations, meet our passionate staff and understand our mission in PR.

What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? It is always a learning experience to open a new venue. My role has been to assist our General Manager in everything that has to do with hiring and the pre-opening of the facility. Also, an important role during these past months has been actively working to keep our team excited and positive. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? My parents, because back in the 60’s, living in Puerto Rico, they both graduated from College and moved to the US looking to fulfill their dreams. My father, who was already an Engineer, decided to joined the US Air Force as a pilot. By doing this, they were able to provide better opportunities for their four children. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? That all Latinos are not created equal. The political aspect of each Latin American country directly affects the reason why Latinos immigrate. I was fortunate to be born as a US Citizen, since Puerto Rico is a US Territory. Not all Latinos have that opportunity, which forces Latinos to work even harder. Common aspects our culture shares are our love for music, food, dance and being family oriented. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? I was fortunate that SMG, AEG and ASM Global decided to do business in Puerto Rico, because it provided me one of the best opportunities for my career growth. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I am very grateful to have my parents in Puerto Rico, since my siblings all live in the US. I have spent a lot of time by myself, so now I know I am ready for anything!! Also, I appreciate my coworkers at the Coca-Cola Music Hall. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I am currently the HR & Payroll Generalist at Barclays Center and have been working here for the past 5 1/2 years. I am very lucky to have grown in the organization as I actually started out as an Administrative Assistant and worked my way up to my current role. What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? As a Generalist, my role encompasses “generally” everything in the Human Resources and Payroll field. I execute and manage multiple processes such as recruitment, on-boarding, compliance, employee & labor relations, employee engagement, retention, as well as overseeing and processing payroll and benefits for our full work force of about 1,000 employees. This role is very unique as Payroll and Human Resources are usually part of two different departments in most companies. This dual role allows me to manage our HR & Payroll practices with better efficacy as both areas correlate with one another.

Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/influence in your life. And why? My Mother is the number one influencer and mentor who’s had the strongest impact in my life. I tell her very often that she should have written a book about her life and it would be a best seller! Her journey through life and her success had many challenges, but she is the epitome of a strong and accomplished woman. She was born and raised in the Philippines “where everything is hard,” she would often say. She became a registered nurse and successfully raised both my brother and I with that mentality. Nothing in life is ever easy, but with hard work and determination, you can achieve your dreams. She taught me that you can be a good wife, mother and still have a career of your own. My favorite quote of hers “If you do it right once, you won’t ever have to do it again”. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? Latino and Latinx culture is very diverse. Many people make the assumption that all Latin cultures derive from one country and that we are just one giant universal entity. In fact, our rich culture is a melting pot of intra-cultural diversity and many of us have different customs and practices that make us all unique! Whether you are from the Caribbean, South America, Spain, Africa, Europe, or Asia, understanding the differences within our culture is a great start to learning. How has your heritage/culture played a role in your career? Growing up with immigrant parents who came from two different backgrounds, hard work, education, and success were ingrained in me from a young age. I think that having the knowledge of how my parents and grandparents grew up in their respective countries and worked hard for their success has helped me in my career immensely. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I have learned that I am not cut out to be a stay at home mom or be a full-time teleworker! :) It has been a struggle to find balance between work and family. Ensuring that you excel at both and that work, and my job duties remain at the same level as it was when we were working in the office has been challenging. One positive thing is that I have gotten quite adept at technology! Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I am the Director of Operations for a complex consisting of two theaters, an amphitheater, convention center, multiple parking garages, and three plazas. I got into the business by accident. I was working for the City engineering department and was introduced to the team. I was assigned as project manager for a renovation project ahead of the USBC Womens Open. As soon as the project closed, I was asked if I would be interested in joining the team as the Director of Operations. I can only assume the management team liked how I managed the project. I accepted and had no idea what I was getting myself into but I am happy I took the plunge.

What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? Unlike most accounts, we are also the Destination Marketing Organization. It really allows a market of our size to be much more competitive and opens up a whole new industry for one to experience. It’s great to see how these two industries are intertwined but it also allows the facilities and events side of the business to have a hand in the recruitment of conventions from the start. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? As cliché of an answer as it may be, it’s also an easy one to answer; my parents. They were never overbearing. They simply guided my siblings and I to stay on the right path while allowing each one of us to create our own identity and formulate our own life plans. No matter what we did, they were always there. No matter what memory I have, good or bad, they were always there for all of us. They dedicated themselves to us and to me and that’s priceless. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? Cinco de Mayo is not as big in Mexico, as it is in the US :) In all seriousness, the Latino culture is very family oriented and it creates a strong foundation and sense of belonging. I really think that’s why a lot of people from different cultures are drawn to the Latino culture. That and we can throw a great party! How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? I mentioned earlier the family structure and I really approach leadership in much the same way. We succeed together and we fail together. We pull each other up, not down. I try to build upon the strengths we have and focus on those to strengthen our weaknesses. Use each and every failure as a teaching opportunity rather than to discipline. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I realized how much I love and miss the organized chaos that is the events world we live in. Best piece of advice you ever received? “It’s four years of sacrifice that will pay off for the rest of your life.” - My father’s way of telling me to finish school. After several years in the agriculture, oil and gas industries, I realized it was time for me to get off the roller coaster. I decided it was time for me to embark on something entirely different. I responded to a local ad for a staff accountant position at Rabobank Arena. I was offered the position, accepted and 4 1/2 years later my role at ASM Global is Finance Manager, handling all things accounting and financial matters. What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? I can honestly say that I have the best work family. We are the perfect team together and that is unique in itself.

Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? The person who has had the greatest influence in my life is my Mother. The hardships she endured as a child and single mother inspired much of who I am today. She is my encourager, my strongest supporter - right or wrong, but most importantly she has always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? The one thing I wish people knew about being Latino is that we are often misidentified due to the broad nature of our culture. We are so much more than the stereotypes associated with us, some of them are quite flattering, especially when it comes to food. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? My heritage has impacted my career in a couple of different ways. Culturally, we are raised to believe that prosperity does not come without hardwork, dedication and sacrifice. Also, being bi-lingual has enabled me to communicate with our Spanish speaking community,customers and employees. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I’ve learned that eating out, going to the salon and weekend getaways are small things I have taken for granted. I’m tired of cooking, cleaning, aging and staying home. On a positive note, I do like the idea of working from home. Best piece of advice you ever received? The best piece of advice I ever received was to choose a career with an environment that felt like family, to ease the sacrifice of time, away from mine, and make sure I loved my job, so that it felt like I never worked a day in my life. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I have over 29 years of Food & Beverage industry experience. As Regional Director, I am responsible for the overall performance of assigned Convention Center portfolio, addressing operational and financial challenges in my region. I also assist in monitoring overall customer satisfaction, maintaining communication with all accounts within my portfolio on a regular basis. I analyze account performance and provide feedback, guidance, training, and encouragement to impact results. I develop new operational procedures and policies, assisting with menu development and operational processes for all existing food & beverage units and new accounts within the Convention Center division, along with ongoing training. In my career prior to joining ASM, I have held positions as General Manager, National Events Manager and District Manager for one of the largest Food & Beverage companies in the world. I attended courses in Hospitality and Business at Community College of Philadelphia. What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? In my current role (the new normal) we are working on reopening plans for venues across the globe. We have also created VenueShield, a guidance system that will keep our staff, customers, and clients safe from COVID19, which is one of the most important things I have done in my career. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? My Father instilled a passionate work ethic that I hope to pass to my children.

What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? How passionate we are about everything we do in life. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? Growing up Hispanic is different, you feel like you need to work harder than everyone else, but the harder you work the more LOVE you put into what you do. I believe this is due to Latino’s being passionate people which is why I try and bring that same passion and energy into my workplace. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? I learned that I have more patience than I ever thought I had. I can be a teacher and home school my kids...something I never thought I would be able to do! Most importantly, I learned to pay more attention to the little things in my life, things that usually go unnoticed...I learned to “STOP & SMELL THE ROSES” as they say. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I started working in the live entertainment business when I was 18 years old. I worked as a theatre producer while I was completing my first year at university. Since then, I’ve worked with several theatre companies, developed a big music festival that takes place every year at a public park, managed a boutique venue, created a small company to help emerging artists to develop their products and finally got here, to the ASM Global family, in a project that brings constant thrills and challenges to my life.

What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? The most special thing about my role is that I’m involved in the whole process of every show, event or sport game that happens inside the venue. I work side by side with every promoter and feel the excitement of the results just the way they do. But every role in the company is unique in its own way, every single team member plays an essential role. What makes a good team is the combination of different people playing different unique roles. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? In my life the influences and the people who have had an impact are infinite. Family, friends, colleagues, school teachers, university professors, bosses, clients, artists, movie and book characters, people I run into only once in my life. I’m the result of every single contact I have ever had and that I’m still having. Positive impact and influence can come from anyone, so I’m always open to that possibility. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? “Latino” is an umbrella term for the different ways in which culture manifests in this part of the globe. It is quite impossible to talk about a unique Latino culture, because it is in the diversity of expressions that our richness arises. The only thing that I’m sure we all Latinos share, is pride and gratitude for our roots. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? I was luckily born and raised in amazing Uruguay. A small and cozy nation, located by the Atlantic Ocean. We all know each other, and we stand for our culture and promote our local expressions. We value democracy, peace, diversity, equality and freedom. Since I was a little kid, I’ve been able to create my own path, to pursue my passions, to fight for a career I love and that’s absolutely priceless. I attribute all of these to the culture I proudly live in. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? The current environment has been the most enriching masterclass. Every single day I’m more sure about how we must always remain creative, open to do things in as many different ways as possible, willing to learn about each other, to embrace commitment and generate positive impact. Tell Us About Your Current Role At Asm Global And What Was Your Path To Getting Here? I am in Sales and I love what I do. I have been at the Puerto Rico Convention Center for almost 16 years and I sell this facility with a lot of passion and knowledge of its history. Back in 1996 when they were talking about building a new state of the art Convention Center, I said I wanted to work there and be part of history. Lo and behold in 2005 my dream came true.

What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? I love where I work, I love this facility and the company that manages this facility. ASM Global is amazing. With its experience and knowledge, we have been able to take this Convention Center to where it is today: a unique top state of the art facility for the Island of Puerto Rico. Tell us about the person who has had the greatest impact/ influence in your life. And why? My parents were and have been my biggest influence and inspiration always. Family comes first in my rich culture. The deep values that were taught and instilled have been my north in my personal and professional life. To stay true to myself, to be a good and humble person, to have pride for what I do and to do it with intense passion has always ran through my veins. What is the one thing you wish people knew/understood about Latino culture? That we are proud but good human beings, able to do anything that comes our way and we do it right. How has your heritage/culture impacted or played a role in your career? I am a proud Latina, but being a Latina is so much more than being completely bilingual. It’s about family, deep values, traditions, pride and culture. Professionally, being a Latina has given me the hunger I need to do a great job and exceed the client’s expectation again and again. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? Resilience is the word of the moment and the only one that comes to mind. After this we will become better human beings and better professionals. I’ve always had a lot of patience, but nowadays it’s become very important to the overall safety of myself and those around me. I taught myself to do the paperwork for the department and became the “de facto” assistant to several housekeeping managers before applying for the position myself. What’s unique about your current role at ASM Global? I believe I am the first Housekeeping Manager at the Long Beach Convention Center to have started out as a team member in the department.

Cinco de Mayo is NOT Mexican Independence Day (that’s September 16) - it’s to celebrate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla. How has your heritage/culture played a role in your career? My parents taught me that all work is honorable, and to always do the best you can at whatever you do. What have you learned about yourself as a result of the current environment we are in with Covid-19? Covid-19 has highlighted the importance of cleanliness - something that we deal with on a daily basis in Housekeeping. Best piece of advice you ever received? Always be respectful of the police and of people of all races. Additionally, Dr. Antonia Coello became the first Puerto Rican and Hispanic person to be appointed as Surgeon General of the United States. ASM employees in Puerto Rico are proud of our rich Latin heritage, we have a big heart along with unwavering resolve and resilience. Our strong cultural background and heritage have been key traits that have helped us overcome the near impossible scenarios we have confronted. It seems we have been in a perpetual state of emergency during the past few years, beginning in 2018 with a direct hit from the devastating Category 5 Hurricane Maria. Following Maria, we weathered economic and financial crisis, political upheaval, a series of strong earthquakes in January 2020 and now, our biggest challenge: COVID-19.

To understand what drives ASM employees in Puerto Rico, we must explain where we come from. Puerto Ricans are also known as “Boricuas”. We are the result of a multicultural tradition that began more than 500 years ago when the Spaniards settled on the island, which was inhabited at the time by the Taínos — an indigenous group with a significant presence throughout the Caribbean. African influences were added to the melting pot years later, when slaves arrived on the island to work the sugar and coffee plantations. The fusion of those three races makes us who we are — an energetic and vibrant culture with good people who welcome visitors as part of our extended family; friendly and cheerful people who move their hands a lot when we talk and express our emotions with energy and enthusiasm.
Our Latin heritage gives us the strength of character to keep pushing day after day, even in the face of adversity. Our perpetual smile allows for exceptional hospitality, even under the most trying conditions. And the music in our feet keeps our guests warmly entertained, even when there is no music!! “Boricuas” are proud of our Latin culture and proud to be ASM!!

ruguay is a small country, with a population of 3.4 million, also known as “The Switzerland of South America” because of its location between Argentina and Brazil. The demographics of Uruguay is predominantly a mix of Europeans who migrated to the country in the early 1900´s. People of Spanish, Italian, French, Swiss and Dutch descent are the primary ethnicities in Uruguayan households. One of the most widely known activities of Uruguayan culture is the consumption of a drinking tea called “mate”. It originates from a plant in Brazil called “yerba mate”. The tea is infused with hot water to release its bitter flavor. Many foreigners are surprised to see how commonly and frequently Uruguayans walk down the streets or stroll by the seaside drinking mate. It was customarily prepared and shared with families and friends. Nowadays, due to sanitary restrictions, mate is a beverage to be consumed by oneself. Uruguay is known to be a desirable destination for international conferences and concerts. Punta del Este, a beautiful beach destination, is only 1.5 hours away from the capital city of Montevideo. Both cities have held concerts such as The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran.
Currently, the event schedule is being fulfilled by more local and international future sporting events, keeping our promise to provide a unique venue for basketball for the people of Uruguay. It has also been the center for hosting premier international events such as UFC, Ricky Martin, Sarah Brightman, Bryan Adams and The Backstreet boys. In keeping with our cultural traditions, we host at least one Carnaval event per year. The Uruguayan Carnaval is unlike any other in the world. It is a true expression of Uruguayan culture where music, food, and social gatherings are all part of the season. Carnaval takes place in mid to late January and lasts over 30 days. It is part of a cultural celebration which involves competition, humor, dance, and musical theatre shows. Carnaval artists are musicians, singers, actors, dancers and humorists. Usually, they wear heavy makeup to accentuate their features, and clothing that is handmade by the local communities who support their art or sometimes, even by themselves. Carnaval shows are held in different neighborhoods, streets, social clubs, and larger venues host the competition and festivities.
Located in Uruguay, Antel Arena is a multifunctional Arena.
The Antel Arena was built on the site that was formerly the iconic Cilindro Municipal, a venue that was designed to host Uruguay’s Industrial Production Exhibition and opened its doors during the late 1950s. In 1967, it was remodeled to host the 5th Basketball World Cup. After this, it continued to host international championships, local leagues, and the “home” for Uruguayan basketball fans.
In 2010, this iconic venue suffered a major fire that damaged the structure largely went unused. In 2014, it was demolished which gave rise to the building of a new, state of the art, multifunctional arena which is now Antel Arena. The Arena opened in 2018 and hosts concerts, international shows, sporting events, and family shows. The locals have been able to have unprecedented access to sporting events thanks to the international standard basketball court installed at the Arena, becoming the most important closed basketball stadium in the Rio de La Plata region. The Rio de la Plata is the river between Argentina and Uruguay, and it is called a region because of similarities in culture and language shared within the surrounding areas. The public, as well as basketball teams, are able to play on a professional, international quality standard court giving fans an amazing experience. To date, we’ve hosted the Local Basketball League, FIBA AmeriCup, and the NBA G- League.
Carnaval groups prepare and rehearse all year round for their presentations in the late summertime of the southern hemisphere. The main form of entertainment is parody, making fun of societal matters or political events. It all started hundreds of years ago as a form of social protest. There are more than 6 artistic styles of expression within the Uruguayan Carnaval for example: parody, magazine, which is more like musical theatre, and “murga”, the most popular form. The murga is a group of performers that are led by a “maestro” who encourages the whole band to sing and perform from multiple acts. The maestro is usually also a guitarist that plays the notes for the group to follow the tones and also sets a specific mood for each song. Antel Arena talent is very proud of its Latin heritage and to be a part of the ASM Global family. We truly believe we have all the great potential to bring the best quality sports, entertainment and corporate events to the country.
