Ever since I was a child, I possessed an unrelenting urge to want to protect others. To stand up for those that I cared for and to defend those unable to do so, even if that meant potentially putting myself in harm’s way. To me, there was no higher privilege than being able to serve my country, safeguarding the rights and liberties we hold so dear.

My Father and Uncles served during WWII. I was the Cadet Corps Commander of my High School’s Air Force Jr. ROTC. I’ve always felt drawn to the Military. Serving my Country was/is just who I’ve always been. Two of my Sons have served and one son is still serving. It’s a “Dean Family Tradition.”
United States Army - 24 Years Service
I served my country because I was passionate about making a difference and serving my country. I served for 24 years taking me to 5 continents and included large periods of time in the Middle East in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon and also I served in Colombia and Haiti immediately after the terrible Earthquake in 2010. I was a Military Policeman, but my main role was providing close protection duties to high ranking military officers, political personalities / ambassadors. I loved most of my service and met and worked with the greatest and most weird people on the planet.

I wanted to make something of myself. I wanted to make a contribution to my country while having lots of adventures and new experiences along the way. I served with 1 Tactical Policing Squadron, protecting assets, people, aircraft and cargo in many hostile locations worldwide. My career took me to every corner of the globe and I made some fantastic memories whilst doing so. I am very proud of my service and the skills I’ve learnt whilst serving. Before I joined up, I was a young, naïve and dependant 18 year old boy. It very quickly turned me into a man. My entire adult life is shaped by the military and I am proud of the man I am today.

I felt drawn to a vocation which serves to protect our freedoms and way of life from the world’s bullies.
It made me proud to help protect what I love. It gave me the training and discipline I needed in my life, right out of high school. I’m proud to use my extensive training in leadership, by assisting others and bringing all of my coworkers together as a TEAM. I also use my experience with training by training others with anything that I can.
I love our great country which embraces people from all over the world. Protecting our way of life is very important to me and serving gave me the opportunity to represent what Australia stands for. The legend of the Anzac’s really resonated with me from a young age in the way that it portrayed the mateship, spirit and bravery of Australians. Personally I love adventure and my time in the military allowed my to experience many cultures from around the world and provided life long memories and friendships.
I served my country because I wanted to give back and do something meaningful that was meant to help the well being of others.
My family has a proud history of military service, and service to others has always been part of our ‘DNA’.
I served my country because it is a part of our family. My family has a history of being in the military. My Dad, Sister, and Brother were in. Even my Daughter is serving right now, as well as my Nephew. So, the military is part of our lives.
