Along with job postings and fun discussions, there are often quick and easy opportunities to serve posted in the National Chat closed group on Facebook (if you’re on Facebook, you should definitely join). I recently sat in on one such activity: the Educational Foundation scholarship selection call; it was a 30 minute meeting that made a big difference.

UPDATES SUMMER 1019 Leadership Consultant Pilot Program
At National Convention 2019, the Exploratory Committee will propose a pilot program to test the Leadership Consultant positions and materials that they developed. This program will provide direct support to Chapters: a dedicated National resource to assist in setting goals, leadership development, recruitment and more. Creating these new positions will also allow the National Board of Directors to dedicate more of their time to priorities essential to the sustainability of the National Organization. All details of the program will be presented to the Delegation at Convention, but below are some of the goals and measures of success for the pilot program. Each Regional Consultant will visit Chapters, provide continuing education and serve as the coordinator for policy updates. Quarterly round tables will occur to provide feedback on the pilot program. Additionally, a survey measuring satisfaction with the National Organization will be presented to Chapters at the beginning and end of the pilot year. Results of the surveys and round tables will be presented at Convention 2020, along with details of the meetings, Chapter visits, and programing provided by the Leadership Consultants. The following questions will be addressed through the first year of the pilot: • How many Active Chapters can a Leadership Consultant successfully manage? • Is a one year term enough time to get to know and become a trusted resource for Active Chapters? • Are the monthly topics that the Leadership Consultants are responsible for communicating useful, easy to communicate, and timed appropriately?
National Organization Leadership Recruitment Calling all Alumnae who would like to serve the Sisterhood of Alpha Sigma Kappa – Women in Technical Studies! This summer, we’re electing multiple positions to our National Organization and Educational Foundation. Each has a different time commitment and focus. If you have a passion for our sorority and the drive to give back, please contact us to learn more! • Regional Consultants Looking for 2 Alumnae for a brand new pilot program! Each will partner with 3 Chapters to help with goal-setting, executive board leadership development, hosting quality recruitment, educating the Chapter, advising in programming, and writing bylaws. The National Organization will also pay for you to visit each Chapter! Please contact Morgan at mbixby7@gmail.com. • National Director of Expansion - Bring Alpha Sigma Kappa Chapters to new universities around the country! Training & budget provided. Please contact Allison at ndoe@askwits.com. • National Director of Records - Keep track of our Membership growth, maintain our website, and oversee National awards. Featured Chapter Lambda DePaul University Chicago, IL Established 01/26/2019
On January 26th,
the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa was installed at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. The women of Lambda worked diligently in their two years as a Colony to establish themselves at DePaul and it paid off – this Spring they were nominated for best new student organization of the year. As a Colony, Lambda held a bake sale fundraiser for ΑΣΚ’s National philanthropy - DonorsChoose.org, hosted frequent Study Jams, recruited new Sisters and held many sisterhood and social events. By the time they Installed, the “Lambda Ladies” had grown into a tight Sisterhood of Founders, Alpha Class and Beta Class Members. Sisters from across the Nation gathered in January to celebrate these women and all they accomplished to become an Active Chapter. It has been a busy first year for the Lambda Chapter. To promote Earth Day and gain recognition on campus, the Chapter hosted a large event for the entire DePaul community. For the second year in a row, Lambda raised funds and awareness at DemonTHON, DePaul’s 24-hour dance marathon fundraiser for Lurie Children’s Hospital. They also enjoyed their first spring formal. In June, the Lambda Chapter initiated their Gamma Class and held their first Alumnae ceremony. If you see them in action, it is clear the Lambda Chapter has fun hanging out as Sisters and as friends. As President Bella Noyes stated, “We are becoming closer every day… and I have no doubt that this pattern will continue and grow in the years to come.”

Ashley McKernan (Iota Alum) began her career with the New Haven Police Dept. in December 2018 and will graduate from their academy on July 10, 2019.

Samantha LoPilato (Nu Active) will begin work as a Teaching Intern with Walden Community School in August, designing a STEM based curriculum for a K-12 school.
Announcements Jenifer Henslee Peck (Beta Alum) began working at Top of the World in March and now works as a Licensing Assistant. Johanna Masterson (Beta Alum) graduated in May and will be moving to Princeton, NJ to pursue her Doctorate in Organic Chemistry at Princeton University. Morgan Bixby (Epsilon Alum) began her Master’s studies at the University of Minnesota, studying Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology. Ali Kidder-Mostrom (Epsilon Alum) moved to Seattle in January to begin work as a Supervisory Forensic Scientist in Materials Analysis with the Washington State Patrol. Mary Matthews (Epsilon Alum) is transitioning from being an Engineer to an Assistant Program Manager for an upcoming US Army program. Tara Naber (Epsilon Alum) became a licensed Environmental Engineer in April 2019, working for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Water Supply Engineering Section. Courtney Colson (Zeta Alum) graduated in May and began her career as a Research Associate at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dept of Anesthesiology.
Alex Reimers (Iota Alum) will begin her Master’s study in Chemistry at the University of New Haven in August.
Taylor Currie (Nu Alum) graduated in December and will begin her PhD studies in Chemistry at the University of Central Florida in August.
Points of Pride Mary Albright (Alpha Alum) recently attended the #NASASocial for the SpaceX CRS17 launch as a social media influencer and President of the Starbird Association. Olivia Labbe (Theta Active) was Initiated as an ΑΣΚ Sister on January 27, 2019. “I am just really proud to be a part of such an amazing community of women and immensely thankful for how great they have made my first year at University.”
