On September 15th, the Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Kappa was installed at the University of Central Florida with 24 Sisters. The Founders have strived to establish their sisterhood quickly since colonizing in September of 2017, completing all the requirements to petition to form a Chapter in front of the delegation at National Convention in July.
In addition to creating a foundation for their local group through recruiting enough women to sustain a thriving group, writing bylaws and documents, hosting community service and academic events, and developing leaders, colonies also have a number of National requirements to fulfill as well. For example, the Nu Founders developed a values statement as a contribution to the National Organization, which was ratified in Washington D.C. at the National Convention. Each Sister also completed an interview with a National Director before being initiated. In Orlando, Alumnae, members of the National Board, and the Nu women spent the day celebrating their installation.
According to Samantha LoPilato, Nu’s External Vice President: “During the ceremony there was this mutual feeling between Nu sisters of
I’m pretty sure there were some tears.”
Clearly, the Nu Chapter is already an inspirational group of women on the University of Central Florida campus, and in our own sisterhood. Have no doubt, they are well on their way. A few hours after their Installation Ceremony, the Actives held a Candidate Ceremony for the 10 women of the Beta class – the brand-new Nu Chapter is nonstop.
