Big Top Parade Celebrates America's 250th Birthday
Baraboo will host a birthday party for America—and celebrate local veterans— when the Big Top Parade celebrates America’s 250th year June 13.
Nearly 90 parade entries—from marching bands to clowns to community floats—will delight thousands of spectators along the streets of Downtown Baraboo. Baraboo Area veterans will serve as the parade’s grand marshals.
“Our parade is a patriotic spectacle every year, but we’re taking it up a notch for 2026,” said Nanci Jenks, co-chair of the Big Top Parade Committee. “We can’t wait to thank our veterans for their service to our country.”
The parade will step off at 11:00 am, anchoring a weekend full of circusthemed fun. Festivities begin with the June 11 installment of Concerts on the Square,
which will feature Professor Stich’s Original Circus Band. The AL. Ringling Theatre will offer tours and shows.
On parade day, Forward! Marching Band, the UW Alumni Band and the Wild Rumpus Circus will entertain the crowd before the parade steps off at 11:00 am. Circus World’s collection of antique wagons will take to the streets. The Ringling Brothers Bell Wagon returned to Baraboo last year after a decade-long absence and won Best Overall Entry.
“We love showcasing Circus World’s unparalleled wagon collection in the parade,” said George Althoff, executive director of the Baraboo Area Chamber of Commerce. His organization works with the Big Top Parade Committee to present this unique event. “Once again we’ll hear the bells of freedom ring downtown,” Althoff said.
After the parade, all are encouraged to visit Circus World and see the big top show at 1:15 and 3:30 pm.
Watch for updates on the parade and related events at bigtopparade.com.

PROST! Baraboo Oktoberfest returns September 19
The Baraboo Area Chamber of Commerce will present an authentic Bavarian festival Saturday, September 19 as Oktoberfest returns to Circus World.
A pair of polka bands will entertain, as will the local beer choir. Chamber grill masters will prepare bratwurst as local breweries serve their Oktoberfest flavors. Food trucks will offer sausages and schnitzel as Wiscocktail sells pretzels.
Fest Masters Tom and Lisa Stout will kick off the fun by tapping the golden keg at 3:30 pm. That’ll be the cue for the BaraBrew WisconSing Beer Choir to start singing. They’re the opening act for Griffy Jim and the Polka Dots, a local polka band that will take center stage at the hippodrome from 4:00–6:00 pm. A costume contest and other games will take
place from 6:00–7:00 pm as the headline act—the Mike Schneider Band—prepares to perform from 7:00–9:00 pm.
“We’re doubling down on our Bavarian theme this year,” said George Althoff, Executive Director of the Baraboo Area Chamber of Commerce. “That’s why we’re bringing in two polka bands.”
The Mike Schneider Band has been nominated for 24 polka wards, winning Band of the Year from the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame in 2009. Mike was inducted to that Hall of Fame in 1997 at age 18!
“The sound of live music and the smell of brats make for great marketing,” Althoff said.
Oktoberfest beers from three craft breweries, Tumbled Rock Brewery,
AL. Ringling Brewing and Pals Brewing will be available for purchase.
The 5th annual Baraboo Oktoberfest is presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites–Baraboo.
Admission buttons cost $10 in advance at the Chamber’s Visitor Center in 600 Chestnut St in West Baraboo. They’ll cost $12 on September 19.
For more information, visit oktoberfestbaraboo.com.
Downtown baraboo
Downtown Baraboo is a scene straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The streets are lined with century-old buildings filled with thriving specialty shops.
Shoppers will find a home goods store, a day spa and clothing boutiques, not to mention a candy kitchen and a toy store. Such throwbacks fit the architecture that makes Downtown Baraboo an historic landmark.
When you’re ready for a break from shopping, refuel at one of the Courthouse Square’s many eateries. Options range from classic Wisconsin taverns to gourmet cafes.
Downtown Baraboo is a gathering place, with the courthouse lawn and downtown streets playing host to events such as Concerts on the Square every summer Thursday, Fair on the Square each spring and fall, and the Big Top Parade each June. The end of the year is especially magical downtown, as the Christmas Light Parade and outdoor market in November kick off a holiday season featuring visits with Santa, horse-drawn wagon rides and strolling carolers every Saturday.
Old-fashioned fun fits Downtown Baraboo’s throwback charm. Rockwell would’ve loved it: You will, too.

ice age trail
Take a hike (on the Ice Age Trail)
As newly minted Ice Age Trail Communities, the City of Baraboo and Village of West Baraboo humbly invite you to take a hike.
A central location on the Trail, vibrant community and globally renowned glacial features including the ever-popular Devils Lake State Park make Baraboo and West Baraboo a natural fit for the Ice Age Trail Community program.
The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a 1,200-mile footpath contained entirely within Wisconsin. It
traverses the state from St. Croix Falls in the west to Sturgeon Bay in the east, going as far south as Janesville. One of the 11 National Scenic Trails, the Ice Age Trail highlights the landscapes that were carved out by ancient glaciers, which happen to be some of the most beautiful areas in the state.
Locally, the Ice Age Trail runs through the Village of West Baraboo, the University of WisconsinPlatteville/Baraboo-Sauk County and the City of Baraboo along the Baraboo River.
The Ice Age Trail Alliance, a nonprofit booster group, was thrilled to begin promoting the
Baraboo Area as a destination to its audience, encouraging hikers to visit the community and businesses while in the area. “Commitment to this program represents agreement to build healthy and vibrant communities,” said Amy Lord of the Ice Age Trail Alliance. “It's a partnership to cross promote one another and support the community and Ice Age Trail users.”
Through the city, the Ice Age Trail follows the paved path of the Baraboo Riverwalk, a threemile walkway that links several city parks. It’s used by joggers, cyclists, anglers and pet owners.

ATV routes & Rules
There’s a new way to take in the beauty of the Baraboo Area thanks to local ATV enthusiasts.
The Baraboo Bluffs ATV/UTV Club has worked with nearly 40 municipalities to expand Sauk County’s route network. Along with three other ATV/UTV clubs, these advocates have helped make more than 1,200 miles of local roads and highways accessible by off-road vehicles. The clubs also have established three and a half miles of public off-road trails.
These routes give ATV and UTV owners a new way to explore the glorious splendor of the Baraboo Area. Many routes traverse the Baraboo Bluffs, delivering breathtaking scenery year-round.
Plus, ATV/UTV traffic stimulates tourism, benefiting restaurants and bars along the routes. There are many spots to stop for sandwiches and other treats!
All county highways – those named by letter, rather than number – are open to ATV/UTV traffic. While numbered state and federal highways are off limits, most local roads double as ATV routes.
Sauk County’s ATV/UTV clubs will continue working to expand routes into the few towns and cities that don’t yet allow such traffic. Find the latest route map at baraboobluffsatvclub.com and spend a day - or a weekend - exploring the Baraboo Area in your open-air vehicle!
