2023 Mentorship Survey

The Mentorship Community conducted a survey in the first two weeks of May 2023 to learn about satisfaction of both mentors and mentees with the program. Fifty-six mentors responded to the survey and forty-three mentees responded. Results were overall positive with 80% of mentors reporting they believed they were able to help their mentees accomplish the goals they set out to work on. Just over 62% of the mentees responding said they felt their goals were accomplished. There were individual responses that gave additional details toward what went right or what went wrong in each category. The below chart is high level summary of the survey will give more information as to the results.

How were you introduced to ASIS?

I got to know ASIS International by attending security training courses with a private security academy in Venezuela. In 2009, while receiving training from the instructor, a female CPP, she talked about what ASIS and its certifications were all about.

Why did you decide to get involved?

I believed, since I knew about ASIS International, that this was the path I had to take to achieve what I had wanted since I was a military man in my country, to be a corporate security professional. Someone with full knowledge and a good position within a good organization or corporation.

What motivated you to achieve ASIS board certification?

Since I learned and understood what the ASIS Certifications mean and what field they cover, I set a professional goal, to achieve at least the CPP. In 2009, I was a Country Security manager for an Oil and Gas company, and I wrote on a blackboard in my office, the name of the three ASIS International Certifications, CPP, PCI, and PSP, and what each one means. Every time I could, I read my blackboard, and I talked to my team or any visitor about the ASIS Certifications. Knowing that, in Venezuela, and Latin America, there were few certified people, I became even more enthusiastic, and I set my own personal goal, to become certified.

How did you become certified, and how has it helped you perform your job?

I met two Venezuelan CPP's and one of them guided me at the beginning, I always asked him what it meant and how I could achieve it, and I constantly attended monthly meetings or any other activity of ASIS International in Venezuela. Finally, working in Colombia, during the pandemic, I decided to take a diploma course to learn and prepare myself completely to take the exam. During these studies, I was inspired to try to obtain the CPP, and two other ASIS certifications, PSP, and PCI, and set a goal of three months to take each exam, I finally achieved it according to my personal and professional plan and goal. I am an ASIS International Triple Crown.

My role in corporate security has taken a 180 turn, as in my personal life. I feel like a true professional who has got quality knowledge and experience, and this has opened my way to the world of corporate security. I feel really empowered and I can motivate people around me with leadership and to follow the ASIS way. To hold the Triple Crown is a great responsibility. It hasn't been easy to tell you the truth, and this is because many people see me as one expert, the one who may not be wrong, and the one who could have the responses to all their doubts or questions in the professional field of security management. However, I feel prepared to always give my best, to continue learning with each person and every situation, and to continue inspiring my colleagues. I’m one ASIS triple crown, I feel extremely fulfilled and with great hopes of continuing to grow, personally and professionally.
