EDITOR’S LETTER Hello and welcome to the first issue of A Siren's Echo. It brings me great pleasure and satisfaction to republish this issue, Sarina. The decision to create my own self-published magazine came in late 2024, when I had just returned home from the Pacific Northwest. I spent an unforgettable week exploring the Olympic Peninsula and visiting the Hall of Moses, Rialto Beach, Madison Falls, and Forks, Washington. Since then, I've played with the idea of my own magazine for nearly two and a half years. I previously held a position as a writer for the online magazine Whisperings of Anna, where I was able to pursue my passion for creative writing from 2022 -2024. Once that chapter came to a close, I still felt the desire to pursue creative writing. I tried to fulfill this desire with submissions to magazines, writing competitions, and expanding my journaling hobby. Ultimately, all paths led back to creating my own magazine.
Issue No. 1 came on the heels of a brutal winter. For weeks, thousands of others and I were seemingly trapped under a thick blanket of ice on the eastern seaboard. I questioned whether or not I would see green grass again. This winter put something into perspective for me and made me face a question. If I would freeze and never see another spring, would I be satisfied with my own creative work? As every writer or creative ever in existence, I have a flair for the dramatic... With the onset of chirping birds and the melting of the permafrost, it was time for me to fulfill my vision of creating A Siren. Echo. I'm beginning to republish this issue because I felt the initial release wasn't all that it could be. And instead of rushing the process and building something that wasn't fully authentic, I decided to go back to the drawing board and create something fantastic. And with that, I welcome you to the first issue of A Sirens Echo. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have spent mulling over the design and the curated pieces.
A SIREN’S ECHO
To say that I am an individual with unique thoughts has become an oxymoron. My image is not my own but a projection of my environment and what I scroll. Curated for a global audience and marketed a palatable version of human existence. Sewn into the fabric of my identity is an undeniable urge to become…me. I am at a loss and yearn for the elusive substance called individuality. -KHOR
Tides of Renewal A breath of fresh air enters the body at a tempo pace, filling the lungs and steadying the body. Signs of life rest upon her plump, pinkish lips. As the matriarchs before her, she wades between the realms of the allconsuming void and presence. The battle rages inside as the tides rise. Each passing year signals an opportunity for growth and renewal. With the wind at her back, the desire to press forward becomes imminent. The present waits for no one and with a deep sense of love, she moves steadily towards the murky depths of self-reflection. The person she needs to become lies beneath the waves, where the final battle will take place to decide who wins the war. At a crossroads, a rebirth will happen but which one? One end stands independence beckoning her towards deeper waters. Focused and driven toward ambitions & achievement in a masculine sense. Alternatively, a freeing sense of love, home, and family call out. Asking, not begging or pleading, for her to turn around and swim ashore. Can you have it all? She ponders letting the waves of indecision sink her feet further into the sand until she depressed deep into the ocean floor.

It becomes hard to move her lower half. Kneeling in subjugation to the vast ocean the tides rises yet again pulling her feet further down, she takes one last sharp inhale. Finally pulling her under the current covers her mind, body, and soul. The drums of war begin banging along with a rapid beating in her chest. All that she has lived for is questioned by the surf. Who rules you God, Glory, or Gold? What vitriol do you hold in your soul? What parts of yourself do you hide from others? Who do you love? Who decides your fate, society, culture, or you? The incessant pounding reached her eardrums signaling to her that she worthy of life.Thrashing underneath the waves fighting for the breath of life gifted from above. The battle comes to a climax but crimson does not color the tide, she will not go silently into that dark night.
A primal urge swells inside her breast, a gift from Prometheus, an ancient ancestor. Sands beneath her begin to shift, succumbing to a new master. Her right foot breaks free, planting firmly on the seabed floor. A witness watching with a melancholic disposition, the angel of death, patiently waiting for the outcome. Her ancestors jeer at the divine beast. Laughing for they know the angel waits for something that will never come. Unbroken. Reborn. Escaped.
The fire burns brightly and breath enters the soul. Not content to relinquish it to the angel above, she lives another day. Breaking the surface tension water trickles down her face onto the rest of her physique, dripping from her hair onto her shoulders down her back falling in droplets into the water below. Opening her eyes gazing upon a pale blue sky with dilated pupils, sunshine baptizes her with an iridescent glow. A breath of fresh air enters the body to tell her of years past. She is a wild-spirited celestial being guided by the forces of nature. The wind is her compass, the earth her teacher, the rain is her sister, and the sky is her mother. The angel will return to her again once she has lived this life, not to perish, but to be reborn.
ONCE WE LET GO
Once we let go Of what we were We become what We might see If we can Release our ego We become who We’re meant to be. Only then can We find truth And truly Know Ourself Each of Us Are just another Story Somewhere on A great bookshelf...

Wanderlust
Trusting the process constant are the objects that I want to see...soaring through the skies to find the best place that I want to be... being brave as I explore the love for travel at my core never would it be a chore to pack my bags asking those nearby if they want to come... but if not it’s fine because I’ll still have fun. for I have fun alone. I genuinely enjoy my own presence...excellent is the time spent I imagine... then plan to wonder 9/25/22
