Helpful hints when sailing at the Sac State Aquatic Center For lake conditions call: 916-278-2842 or check the weather link on our website. For safety purposes, 2 people are required to rent the Quest, Holder 14 or Holder 20 (Keelboats). Thou shalt not sail where birds are standing. If you see birds standing on what looks like water, they are usually on a “shoal” or shallow area. Lake Natoma is surrounded by cobble and rock. These elements are hazardous to the bottom of a fiberglass boat. Learn and know the shallows and shoal areas. PLEASE STAY CLEAR. Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) and FOOTWEAR with heelstraps must be WORN AT ALL TIMES. Do not attempt to beach or land your boat anywhere except the Aquatic Center docks. Due to heightened security, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation is extremely sensitive to the Nimbus Dam facility. Please stay at least 200 feet clear of Nimbus Dam. 22
The Aquatic Center will not permit boat launching from our facility in extremely high wind, high current flow, or electrical storm conditions. All sailors must know the proper use, care, and storage of Aquatic Center equipment. Sailboats need to abide by right of way rules. Lake Natoma is a multi-use lake so please be respectful of all users (swimmers, rowers, paddlers, etc.).
Remember: Water, sun block and a paddle can be your best friend!

CAPITAL OUTRIGGER
CAPITAL OUTRIGGER
Capital Outrigger was established as a program of the Sacrament State Aquatic Center in 2016. Since that time, the program has evolved as a club that is an active member of the Northern California Outrigger Canoe Association (NCOCA). The club’s nickname, ‘Ohana Kai, translates as “Family of the Sea” and is reflective of it’s purpose: in a supportive climate like a family, to develop an understanding and appreciation of the culture and values of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling through education, recreation and competition. Anyone is welcome, regardless of age, gender or paddling experience. The program offers various options by which newcomers may become involved in this engaging activity. The spirit of Aloha prevails.

First and Second Year Paddlers
Veteran paddlers continue to work on their stroke techniques as well as extending their skills in steering and general handling of the canoes with overall fitness an ongoing goal for all. Personal goals of paddlers can vary from strictly recreational to a combination of recreational paddling and competitive racing to serious dedication to higher level competitive racing. Coaches plan workouts that support the goals of each paddler whatever that may be.
Morning Recreational Paddlers
This group is a harmonious group of recreational paddlers. But don’t let the name fool you – these paddlers are strong and experienced! Start your morning with the Aloha spirit and gain some useful technique work with some of the clubs most knowledgeable paddlers. Open to persons of ALL ages! Practice Times: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 9:00 am – 10:30 am

HOME WATERS OF SACRAMENTO STATE ROWING
SACRAMENTO STATE WOMEN’S ROWING Women’s Rowing is a varsity intercollegiate sport at Sacramento State. All Sacramento State female students who are enrolled in 12 or more units are invited to join the team. Prior experience is not necessary; most women rowers learn how to row in college. Scholarships are available. The team practices and competes in both the fall and spring semesters. Come join the women’s rowing team. This ultimate team sport could change your entire college experience. We recommend to all incoming freshmen to apply to the NCAA clearing house as their first step to becoming a student athlete. Contact us through our website at www.hornetsports.com and send us your profile. For more information contact: Head Coach, Mike Connors connors@csus.edu • (916) 278-4265 www.hornetsports.com MEETING TIMES: VARSITY SQUAD Monday - Thursday • 6:00-8:00 a.m. Friday – 2:00-3:45 p.m • Saturday - 7-10 a.m. First day of school is first novice practice.
The Sac State Men’s Rowing club offers motivated student athletes a chance to compete in one of the highest levels of collegiate competition, the American Collegiate Rowing Association National Championships. With a long, storied tradition of excellence, the Men’s Rowing club has won numerous regional titles in rowing’s premiere event, the Varsity 8. While winning is a goal, the program also prides itself on being a transformational, life-long skills builder where academic success is emphasized and athletes establish and cement bonds with fellow crew mates for life. No experience is necessary to join, only a passion to be academically successful and to learn to row and train “as one”. For more information contact the club at: www.sacstaterowing.com or email the head coach: coach@sacstaterowing.com Practice times: An activity fee of $125 will apply. The Aquatic Center has been involved with youth programs for over 30 years and is recognized as the benchmark for boating safety. When the first Summer Aquatic Camp was started, no one could have imagined the tremendous response. We will serve over 3,500 children and teens this year in a variety of aquatic activities. The Youth Programs are for children between the ages of 7-17 and provide instruction in: Sailing, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Wakeboarding, Water Skiing, Jet Skiing, Rowing, White Water Rafting, Stand Up Paddling, and Motorboat Safety.
Summer Camp WHAT TO EXPECT! Monday Morning Check-In: Check-in will be located in our circle drive, just east of our parking lots, between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Please be patient when waiting for your child to be checked in. We need to check in every child individually to make sure that they are properly placed in a group. We try to be as fast and efficient as possible, however, you should still allow extra time on Monday morning. Be prepared to sign your child in for camp every morning.
Check-Out: Camp instruction and clean up is over at 3:30 p.m. Checkout is between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. at the inner circle drive. Children must be picked up by 4:30 p.m. Your child must be signed out every afternoon. The campers are not allowed to leave on their own or wait at the front of the Aquatic Center alone. This is for their safety! If your child is in a carpool we must have written permission.
What to Bring: Sun block, lip balm, beach towel, bathing suit, t-shirt, shorts, hat or visor, aquatic shoes with a heel strap such as Teva sandals (bare feet are not permitted!), water bottle, sack lunch, sweats for cool weather, sunglasses with floaties or a neck strap, ski gloves for Water Ski Campers, optional bike helmet for Adventure Campers, lunch and refillable water bottle. It is helpful if the campers bring all of their belongings in a labeled tote bag or small ice chest. The Aquatic Center is not responsible for lost or stolen articles so please label all of their belongings. We look forward to Daily: After the first day, you will still need to check in your child in seeing you on the water! the mornings. Children can be dropped off between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Camp begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. If the child is not here, we will call you. If you know that you will be late or missing a day, please let us know at (916) 278-2842. Ice cream is sold daily from 3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. ($1.00 - $3.75) To help the morning run more smoothly, parents can do the following: • Please download the camper packet for each of your campers from the Aquatic Center website. Make sure that the packets are completely filled out. The release form must be signed with emergency phone numbers included, contacts and medical information must be complete. • Make sure your child has already applied their sun block and they are prepared with a lunch and plenty of water. • Have the camp balance paid ahead of time. We require that the balance is paid a week before camp starts.
