Following her thumping victory in the region’s first ever vote for a metro leader on Sunday 9 May, Tracy Brabin wasted no time and stepped into her new mayoral role the very next day.

Ms Brabin insisted she would work co-operatively with the Government but would “stand up” for the region’s interests while also backing Keir Starmer as Labour leader following disappointing local election results nationally.

She also spoke of how important it was to have role models from working class backgrounds in positions of power.

MELINDA AND BILL GATES SET TO DIVORCE AFTER IT EMERGED BILL GATES MET JEFFREY EPSTEIN

Melinda Gates first met with divorce lawyers after her husband Bill’s links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were publicly revealed, it has been claimed. The estranged wife of Microsoft co-founder Bill, 65, reportedly began legal consultation about breaking up with her husband of 27 years in October 2019, according to The Wall Street Journal. That’s around the same time The New York Times revealed Bill had met with Epstein, who committed suicide in prison last year while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, a number of times. Citing sources who are familiar with the couple as well as documents obtained, The Journal claimed that Melinda, 56, has been working with lawyers from ‘several firms’ for more than 18 months. The revelation comes after Bill and Melinda announced on Twitter last Monday that they are getting divorced. The couple, who have three children together, said: ‘After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.’

KIRKLEES COUNCIL CELEBRATES FOSTER CARE FORTNIGHT Kirklees Council is celebrating Foster Care Fortnight by encouraging people from across the district to come forward and consider fostering.

This year’s theme is #whywecare – keep an eye on the council’s social media accounts for special messages recorded by foster carers and the people who work to support them.

Foster Care Fortnight is an annual event to thank the fostering community for their amazing work and to highlight the ways that caring for children can transform young lives.

INFECTION RATE HAS FALLEN – PLEASE CONTINUE TO PLAY YOUR PART Kirklees’ Covid-19 infection rate has fallen by 23 per cent in the last week and the number of people in local hospitals with the virus is continuing to drop.

However, the borough’s infection rate is still amongst the highest in the country and we all have a part to play in bringing it down further.

207,000 people in Kirklees have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 107,000 of those have had their second. Alongside the rollout of the vaccine, deaths and hospitalisations have been steadily falling and are remaining at a much lower level.

There was one death in local hospitals related to Covid-19, down from four last week. The number of people being treated with the virus in those hospitals is 11, down from 16 last week.

With 55 people per 100,000 in Kirklees testing positive for Covid-19 over the last seven days, the borough’s infection rate has dropped by 23 per cent since last week. There were 243 new confirmed positive cases in the last week in Kirklees, a decrease from last week when there were 316.

The local authority are urging anyone aged 40 and over in Kirklees to book their vaccination now.

Strategic Director for Public Health at Kirklees Council, said: “The success the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine is having in Kirklees is fantastic and it’s thanks to the 207,000 of you who have had at least your first dose and of course, the remarkable health staff and volunteers who have made this possible.

“We have started to see the number of people in local hospitals and deaths related to the virus drop and remain low since the beginning of the vaccine programme. This is really encouraging, but we need to make sure we don’t become complacent.

“Our infection rate is still something we need to monitor closely because it is telling us that the virus is still spreading in our communities and more so in Kirklees than most other areas in England. As more and more restrictions are lifted, we have to make sure our infection rate does not increase and lead to more people being admitted to hospital or losing their lives.

“Now is the worst possible time to think we’re out of the woods and we all have a crucial role to play in getting Kirklees through the roadmap out of lockdown safely.

“There are some simple steps we can all take to make sure we build on the progress we’ve made

“The vaccination programme benefits all age groups and it’s important for us all to take it when it’s our turn. It doesn’t matter how young or heathy you are, Covid-19 still presents a risk and the vaccine protects us all.

“By working together, we can bring our infection rates down, ease pressure on our health services and finally get our lives back to normal. Thank you for playing your part.”

TOURIST LEFT DANGLING 330FT IN THE AIR AFTER GLASS BRIDGE SMASHES A tourist was left stranded 330ft in the air after a bridge’s glass bottom shattered in high winds. Pictures posted on social media showed the man clinging to the guard rail of the walkway in the Piyan Mountain region, near the city of Longjing, China.

Several glass panes were damaged in 90mph winds on Friday, raising more safety concerns about the country’s thousands of glass bridges and other structures. The man pictured was only trapped momentarily and managed to crawl to safety, guided by firefighters and park officials, according to reports.

A statement posted to Longjing City’s official Weibo social media account blamed extreme weather for damaging the glass deck of the bridge in the area popular with tourists in China’s north-east. It said: ‘Our staff rushed to the scene with emergency equipment and successfully transferred the trapped person to safety. The incident caused no casualties.

‘The trapped person was taken to hospital for observation. He was discharged as his mental and physical condition were stable.’

Safety concerns have been raised about glass bridges in China in the past, and a number have been closed off to walkers.

The 1,400ft bridge was only designed to carry 8,000 people a day but had been receiving ten times that number of visitors due to its popularity.

BODY OF NEWBORN BABY FOUND IN LONDON CANAL A newborn baby has been found dead in a canal in north-west London. The infant’s body was pulled from the water at Grand Union Canal, near Old Oak Lane, shortly before 1.20pm on Sunday. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene. Ealing Police have since urged the baby’s mother to seek medical help.

Officers are currently on the scene investigating the circumstances

around the baby’s death.

Pictures taken near the canal show a fire engine and emergency service workers walking around the canal.

A number of cordons are in place around the area and police said they could remain there for ‘hours’.

‘We urge the baby’s mother to seek medical assistance via 999,’ added police in a statement on Twitter. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We

were called at 1:35pm today to Old Oak Lane, NW10, to reports of a body of an infant found in the canal.

According to WABetaInfo details of the feature have appeared in beta version 2.21.10.6. It explains that syncronization will mean deleting a specific message in a group will delete it from both devices. Similarly, pinning or starring a message will make it visible on both phones too. The feature will come from WhatsApp migrating chat history into the cloud – and therefore allowing it to be remotely accessed from different operating systems. There isn’t any further information on this new feature.

At the moment, if you sign in to your WhatsApp account on another phone, it will log you out of the first one as a security precaution. Which, if you regularly use two, can become a bit frustrating.

This is great news, but of course there is still the issue of Whatsapp’s new privacy policy terms where initially, users were set to be blocked from the app (which is the most popular messaging app in the world) if they refused to agree by the 15 May deadline. That deadline has now been pushed back. Well let’s see what develops from Whatsapp over the next few weeks

MORE THAN 20 KNIVES SEIZED AS PART OF NATIONAL OPERATION TO TARGET KNIFE CRIME More than 20 knives were seized by West Yorkshire Police last week as part of a national operation to target knife crime.

The Force took part in Operation Sceptre, which focused on prevention, education and enforcement.

Across the county officers carried out a total of 26 weapon sweeps, finding a number of knives and other weapons concealed in public areas.

Officers also visited schools to educate and inform young people about the risks of carrying knives.

would sell knives to people under the legal age. Thankfully all the retailers passed by refusing to sell such items.

Officers have made over 5500 arrests and seized over 700 weapons. Knife crime is down 10% and robbery is down 20% in that time. There are around fifteen hundred fewer victims of robbery compared with the two years before that.

Reduction Unit (VRU) in West Yorkshire, which takes a unique public health led approach.

It funds various local projects and interventions across all Districts in the county to tackle and raise awareness about serious violent crime.

This will trigger a byelection in the coming months, one which the Yorkshire Party, which polled at third place in the mayoral race, has already confirmed it will stand in.

Vegetarians have healthier levels of disease markers than meat-eaters: Study STAFF REPORTER

Vegetarians appear to have a healthier biomarker profile than meat-eaters, and this applies to adults of any age and weight, and is also unaffected by smoking and alcohol consumption, according to a new study in over 166,000 UK adults, being presented at week's European Congress on Obesity (ECO), held online this year. Biomarkers can have bad and good health effects, promoting or preventing cancer, cardiovascular and agerelated diseases, and other chronic conditions, and have been widely used to assess the effect of diets on health. However, evidence of the metabolic benefits associated with being vegetarian is unclear. To understand whether dietary choice can make a difference to the levels of disease markers in blood and urine, researchers from the University of Glasgow did a cross-sectional study analysing data from 177,723 healthy participants (aged 37- 73 years) in the UK Biobank study, who reported no major changes in diet over the last five years.

Participants were categorised as either vegetarian (do not eat red meat, poultry or fish; 4,111 participants) or meat-eaters (166,516 participants) according to their self-reported diet. The researchers examined the

association with 19 blood and urine biomarkers related to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, liver, bone and joint health, and kidney function.

Even after accounting for potentially influential factors including age, sex, education, ethnicity, obesity, smoking, and alcohol intake, the analysis found that compared to meat-eaters, vegetarians had significantly lower levels of 13 biomarkers, including Total cholesterol; low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol--the so-

called 'bad cholesterol; apolipoprotein A (linked to cardiovascular disease), apolipoprotein B (linked to cardiovascular disease); gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and alanine aminotransferase (AST)--liver function markers indicating inflammation or damage to cells; insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1; a hormone that encourages the growth and proliferation of cancer cells); urate; total protein; and creatinine (a marker of worsening kidney function).

However, vegetarians also had lower levels of beneficial biomarkers including high-density lipoprotein 'good' (HDL) cholesterol, and vitamin D and calcium (linked to bone and joint health). In addition, they had a significantly higher

level of fats (triglycerides) in the blood and cystatin-C (suggesting a poorer kidney condition).

No link was found for blood sugar levels (HbA1c), systolic blood pressure, aspartate aminotransferase (AST; a marker of damage to liver cells) or C-reactive protein (CRP; inflammatory marker).

"Our findings offer real food for thought", says Dr Carlos Celis-Morales from the University of Glasgow, UK, who led the research.

"As well as not eating red and processed meat which have been linked to heart diseases and some cancers, people who follow a vegetarian diet tend to consume more vegetables, fruits, and nuts which contain more nutrients, fibre, and other potentially

beneficial compounds. These nutritional differences may help explain why vegetarians appear to have lower levels of disease biomarkers that can lead to cell damage and chronic disease."

Although their study was large, the authors point out that it was observational, so no conclusions can be drawn about direct cause and effect. They also note several limitations they only tested biomarker samples once for each participant, and biomarkers might fluctuate depending on factors unrelated to diets, such as existing diseases and unmeasured lifestyle factors. They also note that were reliant on participants to report their dietary intake using food frequency questionnaires, which is not always reliable.

Covid Lockdown Roadmap: New rules from May 17 In a Downing Street briefing on Monday, Boris Johnson hailed a "very considerable step on the road back to normality” as he has announced he will proceed with the return of indoor socialising and dining from May 17, The Prime Minister has confirmed that stage three of his ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown for England will go ahead as planned as the four tests for easing lockdown had been met and new data from Public Health England underscored that Covid-19 vaccines have been "highly effective".

This means that from May 17 six people or two households will be able to mix indoors, pubs and restaurants can restart indoor dining, and overnight stays will be allowed.

Mr Johnson urged people to be cautious, saying the country must remain 'vigilant' about fuelling cases and the threat from variants.

The Prime Minister also dismissed the idea that the next milestone of June 21 could be brought forward, he insisted it will take time to assess the impact of this wave of loosening.

He did however hint that social distancing might be dropped altogether at that point, and the idea of Covid certificates might be abandoned.

Two of our in-house staff members have also tested positive and they are being treated at a medical facility. By God's grace, everyone is on the road to recovery. My tests came back negative.”

As per People magazine, 'House of Gucci' is based on the popular book 'The House of Gucci A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed' by Sara Gay Forden.

The upcoming movie follows the story of Maurizio Gucci (Driver), the head of the Gucci fashion house, and his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani (Gaga) and the aftermath of his death after Patrizia hired a hitman to kill him in 1995. Maurizio and Patrizia married in 1973 and in May 1985, the businessman left his wife for a younger woman after 12 years of marriage. Their divorce was

finalised in 1991. In 1995, Maurizio was shot and killed by a hitman Patrizia hired on the steps outside his office in Milan. Patrizia was convicted of arranging her husband's murder in 1998 and sentenced to 29 years in prison. Their daughters, Alessandra and Allegra, asked that her conviction be overturned, claiming her brain tumour had affected her ability to reason. The two were successful and in 2000 an appeals court in Italy reduced Patrizia's sentence to 26 years. She was released in October 2016 after serving 18 years in prison due to good behaviour.

The upcoming film is being helmed by Ridley Scott and also stars Al Pacino, Jared Leto, Jack Huston, Reeve Carney, and Jeremy Irons. Written

by Roberto Bentivegna, the film went on floors in Rome last month. The star cast has been in Italy for a couple of weeks now, prepping and shooting 'House of Gucci'. Bhat and Vargas' chemistry is especially effervescent and smooth on the eyes. Tenzin is also a knockout in the supporting role and adds a quirky flavour to the larger than life visual palette.

While Lisa Ray is tailor-made for her role as a jazz singer who encounters Jay, Manisha Koirala makes a brief but poignant appearance as well.

The cinematography of Tanay Satam and James Cowley and the production design by Aparna Raina are aesthetically in tune with Rahman's soundtrack and are right up your street if you are an old romantic.

The story line isn’t new, but the music lingers with you as does the film’s concept and that’s what makes this a musical journey to be attempted at least once, especially if you are a Rahman fan.

India is going through a crisis as Covid cases are hitting world records.

It only seems like yesterday when we saw the heart-wrenching visuals from the first lockdown in India of desperate migrant workers leaving their city jobs, in a desperate attempt to get to their hometowns on foot. Fast forward and we are witnessing India’s second lockdown where crematoriums are full and hospitals are extending out into carparks and streets.

The stories and death rates coming out of the second largest populated country in the world is truly heartbreaking. However, there has been an outpouring of support from across the globe, whether that’s oxygen supplies, food supplies or prayers, the world has stepped in to join hands with India to fight the deadly coronavirus.

In all this global attention and celebrities coming out in force to show their solidarity in full force, we wanted to ensure the work of one man isn’t forgotten.

To ensure the spotlight doesn’t fade on him, not that he wants it on him, we feel this week our special feature deserves to be none other than Sonu Sood.

Despite some minor trolling Sood has been a selfless messiah to the needs of the poor in India. Be it transport, rations and medical facilities among many other ways Sood has helped thousands in need.

With his generosity, it appeared that this silver screen action hero transitioned into a real one.

During the first lockdown he took to the streets and

set up a dedicated team. He began his ‘Ghar Bhejo’ programme, carried out like a humanitarian mission.

There were chartered flights, buses and trains paid for and distress calls by the needy were answered. It was very soon that the movement snowballed into a campaign for providing jobs, medical facilities and educational aid to workers. The actor touched many lives.

Sood said at the time: “While 2020 has been a challenging year in many ways, it has offered me an

opportunity to reach out to millions of people directly. During the course of this journey, I have learnt and gained a lot from them.”

Now since the second lockdown, Sood has stepped up once again and proven he is truly a hero.

If you go through Sood’s social media, there are trails and trails of responses to people in need.

You will really be surprised when you learn how Sood is funding all this. All along people thought Sonu Sood’s vast and rapidly-growing charity work was being supported by his entrepreneurial friends.

It now turns out that Sood’s charitable work is supported by no one else. A recent report about the actor-activistphilanthropist mortgaging his properties to raise funds to the tune of Rs 10 crores had me agog.

Bollywood journalist Subhash K Jha had asked Sonu about it, he replied, “I am not very comfortable talking about it.”

But the fact is, Sood is paying from his own pocket for all charitable work that he is doing. A friend of the

actor has said, “Who is funding Sood’s dreams?

No one. He is doing it all by himself. The fact that he wants to help as many as he can is his passion in life.

All the money that he has earned as an actor during the past twenty years are going into funding his dream. Sood isn’t getting any help from any agency organisation or industrial house in this astonishing endeavour.”

This kind of single-minded devotion to a cause bolstered by one determined individual is unheard of.

And there is no full stop to his charitable work.

“ This is something I’d like to keep doing forever,” says Sood. Does he realize that this kind of devotion to a cause is unheard of in India?

Sood gets deeply embarrassed, “I don’t know how to react to this. I miss my parents more than ever. I wish they were here to see what their son is doing. I know they are the ones who made it possible.”

‘Apartheid’ claim, Israel and the verdict of international law Rights Watch conducted a similar study to the Israeli case and defined the abuses committed against ethnic minorities by the Myanmar government as crimes of apartheid.

Discrimination against Palestinians by Israeli laws and policies amount to the crime of apartheid, according to a recent report from Human Rights Watch. The 213-page report, released on April 27, accuses Israel of operating a system of apartheid in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

It concludes that “in certain areas … they amount to the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution”.

This is not the first time the term “apartheid” has been applied to the case of Israel and Palestine. Palestinians have described their daily experience in this way since at least the mid-1960s. But the report from the international human rights organisation has brought the term into mainstream public debate.

Language plays an important role in the rhetoric on Israel and Palestine, as I explain in my book on Israeli anti-occupation and human rights activism.

Referring to the “IsraeliPalestinian conflict”, “Israeli military occupation”, “Israeli settler-colonialism” or “Israeli apartheid” reflect different ideological perspectives.

Beyond the level of rhetoric, these terms also signify different legal frameworks and therefore differing obligations for Israelis and Palestinians.

While it is important to determine the accuracy of the report, equally important is understanding the term “apartheid” and the implications of defining the situation as such.

Origin of the term ‘apartheid’ The word “apartheid” first

gained currency as an ideology and political tool promoted by the National Party government in South Africa, under which they won the 1948 general election. The term is translated from Afrikaans, meaning “apartness”. It promoted the separation of different racial groups.

Apartheid initially purported to “enable the equal development and freedom of cultural expression” and allow the groups to “run their own affairs”. But in practice the system privileged the white minority and discriminated against Native (Black), Coloured and Indian people.

Apartheid was based on Afrikaner fear that their way of life would be threatened by the “rising tide of colour”.

The system aimed at reducing the power of non-whites by separating them from each other and dividing the Black population along tribal lines.

Legislation imposing racial segregation had been enforced since the mid-1850s.

But the overt ideology of the National Party was not enforced until 1950. This was when the Population Registration Act detailed the basic framework for apartheid by classifying all South Africans by race. Until the end of apartheid in the early 1990s,

a system of laws ensured the separation of the races and the discrimination of nonwhites.

An international crime Since 1962, the UN general assembly annually condemned South African apartheid as contrary to the UN charter.

But it was not until 1973 that the UN declared acts of apartheid as constituting a crime under international law, through the Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid.

In 2002, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court included the crime of apartheid as a “crime against humanity”. This is understood as comprising “inhumane acts … committed in the context of an institutionalised regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any other racial group”.

So, although the term “apartheid” originated in South Africa and the international legislation was first formulated in response to the situation in South Africa, the crime detailed under international law is intended to apply to other situations.

Other countries have thus been accused of employing practices that amount to the crime of apartheid, including China and Saudi Arabia. Human

Despite apartheid becoming a universal legal term, discussions arising from the Human Rights Watch report and earlier accusations of Israeli apartheid often centre on whether the term is relevant beyond the case of South Africa. Those who apply the term often cite similarities to South African apartheid and those who reject the term highlight the differences.

In many cases, the term is used as a rhetorical tool to emphasise the severity of abuses committed, and to rouse opposition to emulate that of the anti-apartheid movement. Others reject such accusations and use the term “Israeli-Palestinian conflict”.

This implies there is a twosided conflict that can only be resolved through negotiations between both parties.

In South Africa, the issue was not about denying whether there was a policy or system of apartheid. The debate focused on whether those who were racially different should have the same rights.

The terminology used is not only a matter of rhetoric, it determines the legal framework governing the situation. Under current International Law, the West Bank, Golan Heights and East Jerusalem are defined as Occupied Territories, under Israeli military occupation following the war in 1967. Laws of occupation are drawn from the law of international armed

conflict.

This legal framework seeks to balance the security interests of the occupying power with the interests of the local population until a solution is reached.

The consequences, as explained by legal scholar Eyal Benvenisti, are that “at the heart of all occupations exists a potential – if not inherent – conflict of interest between occupant and occupied”.

It is the occupying forces, however, that have the power to decide where the balance lies. Hence, much of the opposition to military occupation is about redressing the balance and protecting the rights of the occupied population.

Other considerations and issues arise if the framework is defined differently. Defining the situation using the legal term of “apartheid” points the finger solely in one direction, accusing one party of not only being unlawful but of committing a crime against humanity. It removes the symmetry stemming from the term “conflict” and the justifications of “reasonable” or “proportional” acts that stem from the legal framework of occupation. Terminology matters.

And yet, does terminology matter to those who face discrimination and daily abuses of their rights?

Whether apartheid, occupation or conflict, unless concrete action is taken to resolve the situation, it seems the question still remains that of who deserves rights, who does not, and who gets to decide.

want to build confidence in community testing, the free vaccination programme and help our communities better understand and address vaccine hesitancy with a collaborative and community-based approach.

We have employed 9 Community Champions, to work within the Dewsbury, Ravensthorpe, Saville Town and West Town areas.

Our volunteers are from a diverse cultural background, namely Kurdish, Pakistani, Romanian, Hungarian and Afghani, thus ensuring the information about the importance of Covid vaccinations can be interpreted into different languages. The aims of the Community Champions are to: l Talk to people within the community, about the covid vaccine and address hesitancy and misinformation.

l The Community Champions will share relevant information with target groups through appropriate communication channels such as leaflets, posters, social media and in person. l The Champions will try new approaches and make recommendations to encourage uptake of the covid vaccine and community testing.

There has been a lot of information in regards to the vaccines as to whether they are permissible from a religious context. These issues have been addressed by the Imam of the Leeds Grand Mosque, and other religious scholars, who have confirmed that the covid vaccine is permissible and beneficial to aid recovery and as protection from infection.

Other concerns have included, the side effects of

the vaccine, concerns around infertility, and the overall safety of the vaccine. Our Community Champions are on hand to listen to concerns and provide helpful guidance and information to those who need it.

Abdul Aslam, Chief Executive of Ravensthorpe Community Centre, said; “I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to take on this vitally important piece of work which aims to increase vaccine take up and ultimately protect our communities.

Our Champions are working extremely hard to make sure that everyone has the correct information about COVID-19 and the vaccine programme.

“With over 200,000 people having taken the vaccine in Kirklees it really shows just how well it is being received.

I hope our work will help increase that number over the coming weeks and months.

Labour remains in no overall control

Ramsay polled 2,259 votes to secure the ward for Labour following the de-selection of Cllr Gulfam Asif.

Kirklees Council is still under no overall control after Labour failed to gain enough seats to build an outright majority.

The balance of power is now Labour (33), Conservatives (19), Liberal Democrats (9), Greens (3) and Independents (5).

It followed 72 hours of voting, verification and counting during which 118 candidates contested 25 seats across 23 wards.

In Almondbury Conservative Bernard McGuin saw off a challenge from the Lib Dems with a majority that leapt from just 60 to 1,363.

He said he fought the election on multiple local issues including concerns about losing green belt to housing, the controversial closure of Almondbury Community School and the ongoing furore about Castle Hill.

There were some surprises during the course of Saturday’s count.

Labour group leader Shabir Pandor – who also leads Kirklees Council – retained his seat as did Green group leader Andrew Cooper and Independent group leader Charles Greaves.

But senior Labour councillor Graham Turner, a member of the decision-making Cabinet, lost his Denby Dale seat to Tory challenger Tim Bamford.

Cllr Pandor said he was ”really gutted” to lose a colleague with the experience and status of Cllr Turner but that he was not overly disappointed with the overall result.

“We have lost a councillor and gained two others. However, our votes have gone down.

“Locally we have a very clear plan and manifesto in Kirklees, and we are investing hugely.

“The question is now what is the national focus?”

Cllr John Taylor for the Conservatives said the result in the district showed that the public wants “change in Kirklees.”

He added: “We are really pleased that we have increased the number of Conservative councillors and that the Conservative vote

My experience of Ramadan in covid has been different and unusual.

It’s hard to pass time when you’re stuck at home! Inshallah may Allah make it easy for us all. At school we social distance and wear masks.

Because of corona virus some people have to eat in our classroom, which makes it harder to fast!

The last hour till iftaar is always the hardest, and the time goes sooo slow! We can’t invite our friends or family over for iftaar. I just cannot wait for Eid when we can all eat together and have fun!

Now, to finish it off I have made a poem ...

I wake up for sehri to keep my fast, And I eagerly wait for Iftaar to open it at last!

Then I wake up at 7:00 to go to school and study hard, At lunchtimes I sit in the class and make my Eid card.

800 gm. boneless mutton cut in half inch bits 200 gm. kidney and liver cut in half inch bits 50 gm. ginger garlic paste 150 gm. raw papaya paste 100 gm. white onion paste 100 gm. brown onion paste 150 gm. desi ghee 25 gm. yellow chili powder 25 gm. coriander powder Salt to taste salt 25 gm. garam masala 10 gm. black pepper powder 50gm roasted Chana powder 100 gm. curd 1 gm. saffron 30 gm. poppy seeds paste 10 gm. cashew paste 10 gm. chiroli paste 10 gm desiccated coconut powder 2 ml kewra 4 pcs clove 6 pcs green cardamom

1.Take a wide bowl, put washed mutton, kidney and liver cubes add ginger garlic paste, raw papaya paste, white onion paste, curd, coriander powder, yellow chili powder, gram masala, black peeper powder, salt and brown onion.

2. Blend well with the help of both hands, keep in a cool place for 2 hours.

3. Take a pateli(lagan), put on heat add ghee, then clove and cardamom, after roasting put the entire marinated mutton, add some amount of water, roasted Chana powder and stir vigorously. Put on medium flame, cover it for almost 15 minutes.

4. After 15 minutes, remove lid when the mutton is almost done. Now add cashew, almond, chironji paste, desiccated coconut powder, and poppy paste.

Again blend it with a ladle and cook (bhuno) until oil come.

5. Now add saffron water and kewra water, stir 2-3 times and close the lid and remove from the flame immediately.

6. Garnish with coriander leaves. Have with romali roti or paratha.

‘DELICATE NEGOTIATIONS' ON TO MOVE CL FINAL TO BRITAIN "Delicate negotiations" are taking place about moving the Champions League final to Britain, government minister Michael Gove has said.

Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea are scheduled to face off in the showpiece fixture on May 29, with Istanbul the destination for the match.

However, doubts about the Turkish city's ability to host the game were left in serious doubt after the British government placed the nation on its country's travel "red list", reports DPA. This week, UEFA said it remained committed to staging the game in Istanbul, despite the country being under coronavirus lockdown until May 17. UEFA also said it intended to operate with reduced fans in attendance at the Ataturk Stadium, but the new British government

rules mean City and Chelsea fans travelling for the game would have to quarantine in government-approved hotels when returning home.

There had been suggestions that Britain was ready to step in to play host, although with Wembley also currently scheduled to hold the Championship play-off final the same day it remains to be seen if the national stadium is a viable alternative. Amar and Arjun Purewal have become the first British South Asians to face each other at Wembley for north-east rivals Hebburn Town and Consett AFC in the recent FA Vase final.

The 31-year-olds are well known in the region having played at the likes of Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Blyth Spartans, Whitby Town and Durham City between them.

It was a moment to savour for the Sunderland twins with centre-back Arjun leading his side out at the home of English football as Consett captain.

Consett took a deserved 18th-minute lead through Ali Alshabeeb before an unforgettable moment for Amar, who calmly slotted home an equaliser for the Hornets.

Consett captain Arjun added: "Playing at was a fantastic occasion for us because we're not only brothers, we are best friends. Naturally, I'm disappointed not to be coming away with a winner's medal but I am really happy for my twin brother.

"There is a much bigger picture here and that's giving and showing kids - particularly British South Asian kids belief that they can also make it in football.

"We need better representation at every level of the game. Amar and I are determined to play a more important part in this push, starting at home in the beautiful North East."

Amar and Arjun were dubbed the 'Punjabi Pride of the North East' when they first made history as teenagers back in 2008 after becoming the first twins ever to score in the same FA Cup tie, netting for Bishop Auckland in a 3-2 Extra Preliminary Round win over Darlington RA.
