OWBIZ 1978 film pati patni or woh to be remade Bhumi Pednekar, Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Pandey to star in Mudassar Aziz's Pati Patni Aur Woh. The film is believed to be an adaptation of 1978 film by the same title. Ananya will essay the role played by Ranjeeta Kaur while Katrik steps into Sanjeev Kumar’s shoes and Bhumi will play the role of the wife essayed by Vidya Sinha in the 1978 film. Reports state that the makers wanted to make the film a modern version of the classic with a young cast. The team has reportedly commenced prep for the film that is expected to go on floors in February. Buzz is that the core essence of the film will remain the same, with a modern twist – a humorous take on extramarital affairs, to appeal to today’s audience.

Katrina Kaif to star opposite Mahesh Babu in Sukumar if everything falls in a proper place, Mahesh Babu shall romance the 'Zero' actress Katrina Kaif. Reportedly, Telugu director Sukumar is in plans to make a film starring these two famous personalities. Though the title of the film is not yet decided, the filmmaker is trying hard to bring Katrina and Mahesh to share the screen space. Reports suggest that no official announcement has been made about the film but Mahesh Babu has already given his nod to the film and only Katrina’s response is awaited now. Interesting, isn't it? If all goes well, this will be Kat’s third Telugu film that too after a decade. For those of you who came in now, Katrina made her Telugu debut with Venkatesh Daggubati's Malliswari (2004) followed by Allari Pidugu (2005) with Nandamuri Balakrishna. On the work front, Katrina is geared up for her next film 'Bharat' opposite Salman Khan.

RANVEER SINGH "I relate to the tagline apna time ayega" 10

www.asianstylemagazine.com | February 2019

by FATIMA PATEL RANVEER SINGH the name is in big bold capital letters, as that's the only way to do justice to this huge bundle of energy Now right fully holding the title of a superstar with back to back hits in 2018, a destination wedding, collection of awards and now perhaps his hat trick hit with his upcoming Gully Boy Asian Style Mag caught up with the super talent to talk about films and fans. Firstly, huge congrats on 2018, what a year it’s been for you Padmaavat, Marriage, Simba and then awards… I am on top of this world. Thank you. The tag line ‘Apna Time Ayega’, when you look back at your previous films to where you are now, how much do you resonate with this line? I don’t really beat myself up about my flop films. I understand the whole process. Film making is a creative

and a collaborative process. So, when a film becomes a success it’s not entirely your own you share it with others and when it becomes a failure that failure too is shared with others. So, when a film is a success I don’t get too carried away, when a film is a failure, I don’t beat myself up. But yes, I do relate to the tag line ‘Apna Time Ayega’ I think I spent around three and a half years struggling to get a break in Bollywood. I go back into times where I had to have self-belief and keep telling myself that I am good and that I can do it and my time will come and I will achieve what I want to, and I will pursue my passion relentlessly. I know the path is a lot more difficult, but the rewards are mighty. I can go back to that time and that’s the time period of my life where I could really relate to that tag line. Gully Boy has been shot in authentic and realistic locations… From the

alleyways, chawls and slums (believed to be in Dharavi), did you experience any challenges while filming in such locations? I have to hand it to the production team. I think they did it very carefully while we did shoot in Dharavi, we created another set of a slum, where we had less issues of crowd control and there, we would have more provision for the camera to capture the scene. Whereas the streets of Dharavi, were very narrow, so to capture a scene would be extremely difficult to shoot, so we created our own sets where we did a large part of the work. Whenever we went into the location, we would go pastmidnight or really really early in the morning. We were well prepared for the crowd issues. The production was very well organised and strategic in their planning, so I have to hand it to them.

Gully Boy presented an opportunity for me to explore my kalakari in a very in-depth way and it was really really enriching and fulfilling and rewarding and I really got in touch with the musician in me and I am hoping to take it forward.

You have rapped for the first time for the movie. Rap is often a personal expression from the rap artist. How much input did you personally have in the making of the rap songs? I was more of an executor. The lyrics was by the musical talent. Asli Hip Hop was written by Spitfire the 19year-old kid from Madhya Pradesh who is immensely talented and of course Divine has written Mere Gully Mein and Apna Time Ayega and of course there is Kab Se Kab Tak, which is written by Kaam Bhaari, so these are the thoughts, feelings and expressions of the rappers that I have only voiced. But along the way I have discovered my ability to express also. There are various processes or thoughts that came to me and I decided to pen it down, so along the way while taking on Gully Boy there is a whole bank of rhymes, verses that I have written as myself. So, this was giving my, voice to somebody else’s writing and so it was a challenge giving my personal take because each person writes different and so has a different take,

14

for example Divine is completely different to Kaam Bhaari, so to get all of these pros was a little bit challenging. But when going into Gully Boy I feel that rapping was always one of my main side skills, I dabbled it and I have been into hip hop ever since I was a kid, I used to find the lines on the internet and rap to the songs. I think I was in third or fourth grade. The music was very alive in me. Gully Boy presented an opportunity for me to explore that peninsula of my kalakari in a very indepth way and it was really really enriching and fulfilling and rewarding and I really got in touch

with the musician in me and I am hoping to take it forward. Your film releases on Valentines Day and you have the one you love in your life, so if you were to give a Valentines message to our readers what would it be? I really express my gratitude for the love and support that I have received from the audiences from my fans. They are so so, kind and unconditional in their love towards me. The way that they stand up for me in the gamut of social media The kind of messages that they send me and the encouragement they give me, the kind of recognition, acclaim and applaud that has come my way as an artist has been nothing short of overwhelming and I have an extreme amount of gratitude in my heart for everyone who has sent love my way and I hope I can continue to entertain people as an actor and I hope I can make my fans proud of me. Happy Valentines and wishing you all the very best for Gully Boy

I have very oily skin not just on my T zone but also around my nose, on my cheeks. Because of this, my makeup starts melting on my face a few hours after I apply it even during the winter. Do you have any tips for me to make my makeup stay?

To start with, you need to see if you are seeing hair loss on other areas of your body as well, like the eyebrows and on the head. If that is the case, then you need to go see your GP as soon as possible, who will recommend some tests to figure out what the underlying cause for the hair loss is. If your eyelashes are the only affected part, then it might be either due how you are removing your makeup or the products that you are using.

(Priya, London)

Ayesha Says: Dear Priya,

I would suggest you try and wash your face with water before using a wipe to soften and loosen the mascara. Our eye area is one of the most sensitive parts of our body and sometimes using a wipe, especially when trying to get rid of stubborn mascara can result in the lashes falling off.

I used to have the same issue myself!

There are a few things you can do to make your makeup stay put. For starters, treat your face like a canvas – the smoother and more prepped it is, the better things will look on top. Always cleanse your skin before you start. Even if you have washed your face in the morning already, make sure you use a wipe to get rid of any oil that may have built up. Next, ice your clean skin. This will make your pores tighter and almost acts like a toner. Moisturise your face with an oil-free lotion (creams might be too heavy for your skin). Do not skip the primer as it will be the key to making your foundation last longer. Choose a light to medium foundation and apply your foundation in layers if you want to build up coverage. Avoid using too many cream products on your face, opting for powder products instead. Once you are done with your makeup application, dab a layer of translucent powder

18

For the time being make sure you are using hypoallergenic mascara Clinique does a few good ones that you can try out. If you can, try avoiding mascara altogether on a daily basis. using a big fluffy brush, concentrating on your problem areas. Following these steps will not only stop your makeup from moving around on your face but it will also help you get rid of extra shine.

Dear Ayesha, I have noticed that most of the time when I wipe clean my mascara at the end of the day, I lose a couple of eyelashes. I initially would never pay too much attention to it but now my eyelashes have become visibly sparse. Please help! (Karishma, London) Ayesha Says: Dear Karishma,

Applying castor oil to your lashes before you go to sleep is also a good way of encouraging hair growth but make sure you use only the tiniest amount because you don’t want any oil going inside your eyes.

New online 'foodhub' launches for Yorkshire

An online ordering food portal website and app recently launched in Leeds and Bradford hopes to bring a range of great benefits to hungry customers and local businesses. Foodhub.co.uk is a national online ordering portal where customers can order everything from fresh fish and chips to spicy Indian with their fingertips. But unlike other competitors in the market, Foodhub says it is different in one key way - it doesn’t charge any commission on orders.

Foodhub decided not to charge commission to businesses after listening to takeaways and restaurants. Not charging any commission means that businesses can make major savings and in return offer exclusive discounts and incentives to customers they won’t find anywhere else. Those ordering meals on the Foodhub website or on the app can receive discounts of anywhere between 10 and 30 per cent.

Since launching the portal in Leeds exactly what it says. Order food and and Bradford over 200 businesses have get it delivered straight to your door. Much better than others as the signed up including pizza, Indian, takeaways give more Chinese, Italian as well as fish and chips shops.

Mohammed Shakil, project manager at Foodhub, said he is really excited about Foodhub launching in Leeds and Bradford and hopes people will take advantage of the new service. Placing orders on the Foodhub website is really simple. You simply enter your postcode, select a food outlet where you wish to order your meal from, pay and then find your delicious, hot meals at your doorstep at a discounted price. The app works in exactly the same way. It is free to download and can be found on the Apple or Google Play stores. Reviews of the food app on Apple and Google Play are all positive. One reviewer wrote: “This is a great app for finding great takeaway deals locally. Easy to use and it’s my new favourite. Another wrote: “Great app, does

RICHA CHADHA “I’m really happy that my work is getting noticed"

Double award winner and Bollywood actress, Richa Chadha braves daring roles in a drama film where she stands up for patriarchy and inspires others to follow suit. This down to earth actress stars in ‘Love Sonia’ a film which raises awareness about sex trafficking in rural India and will release in cinemas on January 25, 2019. Richa Chadha took time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about her role in the new release.

by SMRITI GOPAL It’s going to be six years next month since your film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and now you’ve had an international film come out, ‘Love Sonia’. Did you ever believe that from then in 2013 to now, you’ll get this far, you’ll be doing international films with celebrities such as Demi Moore? I just wanted to do relevant films, whether it was a Gangs of Wasseypur or Masaan or small films I am quite ready to globalise myself and I’m really happy that this is happening.

their voices for the right kind of change in society. You’ve got another film coming out, it’s the Shakeela biopic. There’s a calendar that has been launched, Shakeela calendar which is obviously getting everybody very intrigued. It’s a lovely calendar very interesting especially because of how the images have come out, being around the 90s very quirky. How did that concept come about? How did you get it altogether? It’s quite an unusual promote for the film.

You’ve made some pretty unconventional role choices, did you plan it this way, or was it luck? Well I know that I didn’t want to do very conventional Bollywood roles, because I didn’t see myself fit into a story to be just a prop. So, I am quite happy with my choices, because most actors wouldn’t agree to play a 50 or 56-year-old. I played a mother by choice when I was 24, so I am quite happy, because I could showcase my acting range and that gives me a lot of joy. You’ve got this very bold and upfront image and you’re known as somebody who deals with eccentric issues. Is that the image of how you want to be seen? Is that the image you want to portray to everybody? I don’t think it’s a bad image to have. I think more people should stand up for this, especially in a country like India. We don’t want to be making headlines for only the negative stuff that happens to women in our country. A bad rape case or a dowry case. I really think that the time has come for more people to up the anti-sexism and we can see a change. I see a change from when we did Gangs of Wasseypur to now, people are speaking up and they are using

21

www.asianstylemagazine.com | February 2019

Yes actually, Shakeela’s birthday was on the 18th of January so we wanted to give her a little tribute because not many people in the North were familiar with her work. See this is the underbelly of cinema no one talks about it and we can’t deny that it doesn’t exist. Which is why I thought that instead of denying it we should talk about it. We should have everybody coming into her world because she did all these films, some of the titles were quite funny unintentionally.

Instead of trying to deny it and run away from it, I think we should claim it, and this is our world and here is the underbelly and here’s the woman who stood up to patriarchy in the 90s and early 2000 when there was no social media. She was a feminist. Some people are describing her as a soft porn star and obviously in a place like India where their culture is very taboo so you’re playing such a character bringing her to screen, it’s a very brave movement, because you’re likely to get trolled for doing so. Do you realise the kind of impact, playing these kind of roles can have on you before you take on a film or do you just go with the instinct of I like the script and I’m just going to do it for that reason or do you actually consider all of those things? Even before the script, I want to look at the story and if the story interests me. Her story is so dramatic and cinematic and I wanted to find out more. In fact, her story is a classic case of #MeToo, when she refused to obey the code of women in the industry, she was shunned and ostracised and lost her livelihood. So, I think she was very brave because of all those reasons and I wanted to talk about it. She is very brave, and I wanted to talk about it, since she was a huge star in the 90’s. People think twice before standing up to male authority even today and she did it in the 90’s. I thought it was important to talk about her story and highlight her life and how her career suffered because of that and people will feel it’s a reality too. Going back to your film that just released, ‘Love Sonia’, tell me how you feel that film has now shaped your career going forward? What has that film done for your career? I don’t know what it’s done for my career yet, but I think it’s definitely got the issue of sex trafficking in there in the spectrum to be discussed and to be debated As far as my career it’s given me a lot of exposure and it did change me as a person, and I started doing more activism work after it came into the theatre. You won two awards even before the film released. That must make you feel that doing these kinds of challenging characters especially, where you said it psychologically drained you playing the character. Yes it did drain me. I can imagine and winning the award, that must have felt good for you in terms of the appreciation for going through that emotional journey playing the character. How important are getting awards for you? I’m really happy that my work is getting noticed and for people to come up and compliment me. But I prefer people to compliment me than winning an award. Yes, when someone comes up to me and says they’ve been affected by the film, that to me is a bigger and wider compliment than anything else. Because it’s human, it’s one on one and people see you and they react and that is beautiful for me. You’ve had a great professional journey but you’ve also shared things about your

personal struggles in terms of your eating disorder and you’ve quite openly talked about body shaming and overcoming them. Obviously, you’ve overcome them and if you were to give somebody advice today, overcoming such struggles, what would you say to others?

such as Richa Chadha. She continues to create an impact with all the movies she’s starred in. We wish her the best of luck going forward.

I would say that one should be happy in their own skin because you’re always going to be too fat or too thin. Do what’s good for you, be healthy, don’t starve, don’t overeat, live in moderation and be happy with who you are because the idea of beauty keeps changing. It was our pleasure to talk to a brave star

Arresting Austria Bollywood films are well known for their picturesque locations and stunning visuals. We're so used to seeing the beautiful backdrop of Switzerland with our B-town hero and heroine dancing away to a romantic ballad and the added aesthetic of the colourfully draped sari that even our Bollywood producers are wanting to change the scene and bring somthing different to our big screen.

heading for the hills. But to do so is a shame, for Innsbruck is in many ways Austria in microcosm: its late-medieval

Altstadt is picture-book stuff, presided over by a grand Habsburg palace and baroque cathedral, while its Olympic

Continuing the romantic mood, we wanted to give a romantic flavour to this issues holiday destination so we took a trip to Austria, Innsbruck for our travel feature this edition. Innsbruck is also the place where ace Director Karan Johar’s team extensively shot in the beautiful capital of Tyrol for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Innsbruck is certainly a sight to behold. The jagged rock spires of the Nordkette range are so close that within minutes it’s possible to travel from the city’s heart to over 2000m above sea level and alpine pastures where cowbells chime. Summer and winter activities abound, and it’s understandable why some visitors only take a peek at Innsbruck properly before

ski jump with big mountain viewsmake a spectacular leap between the urban and the outdoors.

There are many amazing places to stay in Innsbruck, but if you want to follow where our B-Town star cast of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil stayed, then head down to the Adlers Design Hotel. Adlers Design Hotel, is one of the tallest hotels of Innsbruck, offering stunning panoramic views from all of their rooms, a rooftop spa, bar and restaurant. So if you want to sleep in the same bed as Ranbir Kapoor or want to feel like A-list star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan then a stay at this hotel will most certainly fulfill that. Prices

range from £120 to £199 per night. Innsbruck has so much to offer for Ski lovers, as well as history lovers. Innsbruck’s golden wonder and most distinctive landmark is the Goldenes Dachl Museumbuilt for Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (1459–1519), lavishly festooned with murals and glittering with 2657 fire-gilt copper tiles. It is most impressive from the exterior, but the museum is worth a look – especially if you have the Innsbruck Card – with an audio guide whisking you through the history. Keep an eye out for the grotesque tournament helmets designed to resemble the Turks of the rival Ottoman Empire. The Nordkette cable cars really

impressed Karan Johar, that the Kabhi Kushi Khabi Gham Director even tweeted about his extraodinary experience. The cable cars take you directly from the Old Town city centre to 2000m in just 20 min. On this mountain you will find the nature park Karwendel, Austrias biggest nature park and maybe you can recall some of the mountain scenes you will see in the movie. You will see lots of the surrounding holiday villages, in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Many of the holiday villages are

naturally grown farmer villages on the sunny plateaus around Innsbruck and were used as locations for all of the nature and mountain scenes you will see in the movie. You should definitely visit the villages of Axams and Obsteig, or maybe even book your stay directly there to immerse yourself in the tranquill beauty of the Alps, the fresh air and pure water. So if you want to get a glimpse into the film location and make the same experiences as Karan, Anushka and Ranbir then do it as them and use every minute to explore more of Innsbruck, the Capital of the Alps and its surrounding holiday villages and its marvellous alpine, urban and imperial sights.
