mANILA - A bank that caters specifically to overseas filipinos is set to start operating by January next year, the Philippine Department of Labor and employment (DoLe) said thursday, october 12. DoLe made the announcement weeks after Philippine President rodrigo Duterte signed the executive order (eo) 44 on september 28, which approves the Land Bank of the Philippines’ (LBP) acquisition of the Philippine Postal savings Bank (PPsB). Under eo 44, the PPsB will be converted into the “overseas filipino Bank” (ofB), a policy bank dedicated to providing financial services to overseas filipinos. the eo noted that filipinos abroad “should be given provision of priority support for their growing financial needs.” “there is a need to establish a policy bank dedicated to provide financial products and services tailored to the requirements of overseas filipinos, and focused on delivering quality and efficient foreign remittance services,” the order read.
