JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Community Organizer Supervised by: Executive Director Roles and Responsibilities: The Community Organizer is responsible for increasing the community’s leadership and participation in all Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC) projects and programs through educational workshops, counseling, leadership training, participatory processes and campaign development, and meeting facilitations. The Community Organizer will be an important interface to ACDC clients and community stakeholders and participate as an organizational representative in broader community partnerships and coalition work. The Community Organizer will coordinate organizing efforts to improve the quality of life for community members in Boston’s Chinatown and the Greater Boston region, particularly Quincy and Malden. The Organizer will have the opportunity to develop and implement community projects to achieve these goals. The Organizer must be able to coordinate his/her work with other staff members. Duties include but are not limited to: • Plan and coordinate outreach to residents, business owners, community partners, social service representatives, city and state officials and departments, and other community stakeholders to support ACDC programs • Identify and build collaborations with key community partners to increase ACDC’s impact • Support and sustain legislative efforts of ACDC by facilitating the development of advocacy strategy, educating residents on issues and encouraging political participation • Recruit, train and support residents to develop leadership skills, financial literacy, knowledge related to homeownership and affordable housing, civic participation, and other capacity-building areas that may revitalize and stabilize the community • Participate in neighborhood review, planning, and governing bodies where and when appropriate. • Assist in research and analysis on community development issues and opportunities • Coordinate activities and actions to implement strategies for public participation in neighborhood planning and public policy • Develop, track and report program goals, outcomes and performance metrics for internal accountability, external reporting, and fundraising/grantwriting • Coordinate the dissemination of information about ACDC services and programs • Provide general assistance, as needed, for ACDC events and activities Qualifications and Experience: • Minimum of 2 years of related community organizing and/or development experience • Masters in Urban Planning or Public Administration required • Experience working in low-income, immigrant communities, particularly the Chinese and Asian/Asian American community • Demonstrated ability to outreach and build relationship with people from diverse backgrounds • Demonstrated commitment to resident-driven decision-making processes and social change • Good humor, strong initiative, creativity, and ability to multi-task and to work under stress • Written and verbal communication skills in English and in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) required • Proven ability to create and adhere to a work plan • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team to deliver clear deliverables • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including availability during some nights and weekends • Fluent in MS Office suite, database systems and web-based communications.
