ORIENTATION AND OPEN DAY
The team organized an Orientation Program and an Open Day for the upcoming batch of budding engineers. The Orientation program was held on 1st of August, 2018. The freshers were addressed by Pranave Nanda, the HR head of Ashwa Mobility Foundation. Pranave walked them through the rich legacy, the ongoing projects and the future endeavours of Ashwa Mobility Foundation, and the perks of being a part of it. He also used interesting and fun tools, such as memes, to engage the crowd in the presentation and kindle interest in the minds of our freshers, about the project. www.ashwaracing.com | September Newsletter

During the Open Day which was held on 20th and 21st August, every component of the car was displayed in the workshop. The team gave a detailed explanation about each subsystem and its components, clearing the ambiguities in the minds of freshers. We were extremely delighted with the astounding response given by the freshers towards the Open Day and Orientation Program. The recruitment for the freshers batch will begin soon.

SILENT SHORES
Triton started manufacturing tyre valves in the year 1976 and are India’s largest tyre valve manufacturers today. They are the first Indian company to achieve a Tier 1 approval for direct supply to vehicle OEM’s. Their MD, Mr. Aditya M Gokarn, is an RV alum and has shown keen interest in industry-institute partnership. They are on board as our sponsors for both the combustion and hybrid prototypes. On 14th August, 2018, there was an event held by Triton at Silent Shores resort, in Mysore. The event was attended by all employees of Triton, representatives from esteemed companies and members of our X8H team. We were given an www.ashwaracing.com | SeptemberNewsletter

opportunity to briefly explain about our project to the dignitaries through audio visuals and a presentation. The session was then followed by a cocktail party and dinner. Members of our team were present at the gazebo, where food was being served and it attracted a lot of crowd. People who spoke to us showed great interest in the project and were highly impressed by our performance in the latest race season. All in all, the MD was happy to have us over and we are extremely grateful to Triton for providing us an opportunity to showcase our project and thereby, receiving valuable inputs from the dignitaries present there.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Bharat Fritz Werner, popularly known as BFW, is an Indian machine tool manufacturer headquartered in Bengaluru, India. BFW designs and manufactures precision machine tools mostly computer numerically controlled (CNC), such as vertical machining centres and horizontal machining centres, horizontal turning centres, vertical turning centres and special purpose machines. An industrial visit to BFW’s Plant was organized on 21.08.18 for the second-year students of Ashwa Mobility Foundation. The main objective of the industrial visit was to provide students an insight regarding the operations and management of a manufacturing company. After a brief introduction about the history and operations of the company, the students proceeded to observe the various stages of assembly of the Conventional Milling Machines, also known as Machining Centres. The various moulded components that come in from BFW’s central foundry are inspected, painted and then assembled to make the machine, were shown. They were shown the Universal Machining Centre in its various stages of assembly and testing. The main highlight of the tour were the “Mother Machines” i.e. the machines that make components for other machines. Next, the tour headed to the section where the plant assembles the Horizontal Turning Centres (Horizontal Lathes). Both CNC and Conventional Turning Centres were shown to us as a part of the visit. Many innovations like Automated Pellet Changer, Dual Table Design and Automatic Lubricant Filtration systems that reduce the downtime of the machine and increase productivity, were shown. The last section that was visited by the team was the Special Purpose Machines Assembly line. These machines are designed to satisfy a company’s specific design requirements that couldn’t have been possible using other machines. The tour concluded with an interactive session, conducted by Mr. Prashanth. The Industrial Visit was not only informative, but it was also helpful to the students to look for placement opportunities in the manufacturing sector. OSV - OPEN SOURCE VEHICLE
With 15 years of experience in the racing division, excelling in both technical and managerial field of automotive, the team now steps ahead by utilizing the full potential of the engineers of Ashwa to benefit the general public. The personal electric division focuses on providing better quality mobility solution to the present case urban private transportation. Aligning with the needs of the world and the ideologies of the government, the personal electric division looks to create a huge impact on the revolutionising automotive industry. The stand-out feature of the project is the modularity concept, which depicts the ability to mount different cockpits on to a single ladder chassis. It works as a platform to implement our idea on the car without wasting much time and resources. The shell(cockpit) will consist of completely functional infotainment system. The system would also be coupled with a ADAS function, aggregating performance data relevant to the user, and interfacing smoothly with the self-driving platform. www.ashwaracing.com | September Newsletter

ALUMNUS OF THE MONTH In this edition of 'Alumnus Focus', we'd like to feature Abhishek CM of the 2015 batch. Fondly known as CM by his batchmates, he belonged to the Chassis and Workshop Management subsystem. His supportive nature is often spoken highly about, by his teammates and juniors. He would come off as an intimidating person to those who haven't interacted with him, but in reality, he is a very jovial guy. His juniors feel he is highly approachable and fondly recall his helpful nature. They would feel free to reach out to him and seek help/advice from Abhishek. Apart from helping the team with the technical aspects of procurement and related activities, he was never stepped back from helping the team source basic amenities like food, water etc, creating a conducive environment and keep the working spirit upheld, ensuring that along with the technical needs, the team was also well equipped with other amenities. Such a requirement is extremely essential, when the team is in a foreign land, tackling the various obstacles that come in the way.

From the experiences we have heard, one will never hear a “No” for any kind of help/support, he is approached for. CM will hear you out and help with everything he can. He is thus known for his helpful nature and will never look away from helping anyone in need. Keeping the team together is another quality of his which still makes him one of the most popular personalities amongst his group of people. After graduating form R.V. College of Engineering in 2015, Abhishek went to co-found Royal Brothers, along with one of our own professors from the mechanical department, TN Manjunath. Royal Brothers is a rental bike company, the first of its kind in South India. Incorporated in 2015, RB has built its brand on two words - ‘Quality and Brotherhood’. They provide a experience to cherish, to their customers. Ashwa Racing is grateful to Royal Brothers, for lettingb us use their rental bikes, free of cost.
