RECRUITMENT 2K18
The recruitment for the incoming batch of budding engineers has begun in full swing, with the team receiving an overwhelming response from the freshers in the buildup to the recruitment. The recruitment is held in three stages, the first one being a general aptitude test. The selected candidates have to then go through a personal interview. In the personal interview, the candidates are given a wordlist, comprising of concepts and technicalities used in various parts of the car. The primary objective of having a wordlist

is to give the students an idea about the dynamics of the car and the various terminologies associated with it. Apart from the technical knowledge, the candidates are also evaluated for their interpersonal, soft skills. In the final stage of recruitment, called the ‘Kart Event, the students have to build a rule compliant push kart within a given timeframe. The Kart Event is an Ashwa tradition and puts across a plethora of ideas. It not only gives them an idea of the life in Ashwa family but also puts to test, their determination, team spirit and passion towards the project.

TEAM LEADERS Kireeti Krishnappa is the captain of the XX-H team and part of Drivetrain and HR subsystem. As a responsible leader, he doesn’t accept any excuses and is result oriented. He facilitates the work in the workshop in a kind and effective manner and makes sure that no team member is left behind.
Rahul V is the project manager of the XX-H team and belongs to the suspension and administration subsystem. He is a regular at the workshop and is always up to doing something productive. His hardworking nature and positive vibe boosts the morale of the team. Shubhendra Rao is the chief engineer of the XX-H team. He belongs to the chassis subsystem and is also responsible for workshop management. Shubhendra can be seen working on the car tirelessly at any point of time, in the workshop. www.ashwaracing.com

Abhishek Sharma is the team captain of OSV project, PE-02 and belongs to the drivetrain subsystem. He never fails to motivate his teammates and is known to reduce conflict and direct the team towards the goal in an efficient manner. The word ‘Formula 1’ is just enough to induce an adrenaline rush to Abhishek. Sidhant K Roy is the project manager of PE-02. He is part of the Suspension and Administration subsystem. He is the most technically sound member of the team. He is highly particular about deadlines and makes sure all tasks are completed well before the deadline. Utkarsha Mohan is the chief engineer of PE-02 and belongs to the chassis subsystem. He is extremely amiable and helpful, can be relied upon at any point of time. His role in the norming process of the team is invaluable.

Electronica India is the leading trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications in India. The fair is one of the most important industry gatherings for the electronics industry in Asia. Companies from across the globe, participate in this event. Ashwa Racing is grateful to Mouser Electronics for providing us an opportunity to display our combustion prototype RZ-X2 at their stall in Electronika. The prototype was eye catching and drew crowd towards the stall. It also provided the team an excellent platform to explain our project to various industrialists and dignitaries across the globe. The team is thankful to Mouser Electronics for such fruitful collaborations.

IN THE WORKSHOP
The team procured components for suspension, steering, brakes and drivetrain of the passenger electric prototype PE01 from the market. This will be followed by the CMM of the parts, so that a CAD model of the parts can be made, for the development of chassis design. The design of the electrical and IT parts of the prototype is also under progress, and parts for the same will be procured once the design is validated and scrutinized.

The two-part chassis, comprising the ladder and the cockpit, will be designed with reference to the procured parts, along with the bodyworks and the interior of the car and other elements like the seats, windshield and doors. After the design is validated, the required components will be procured and the manufacturing of the chassis will begin. The assembly of the parts onto the completed chassis will be done in house, after which the car will be rigorously tested and tuned for optimum performance. The car is on track to be revealed in the January ’19 Launch Event

Dr. Ravindra S Kulkarni, one of the main pillars of our project, is our eternal source of wisdom and motivation. He has been the faculty advisor of Ashwa Racing since 2006 and has been a symbol of inspiration ever since. He has previously been the Head of Department, Mechanical Engineering and is currently the Head of Department of Aerospace Engineering, R.V. College of Engineering. Over the years, Dr. RSK has extensively guided and interacted with every incoming and outgoing batch of Ashwa Racing. He also mentors the team in close coordination with our team founder, Mr. Arunraj. Although he is quite a busy person, he ensures that www.ashwaracing.com

he allots more and more time for us, and actively looks for scope for involvement with the team's activities. Dr. RSK has always followed an ethical approach which inspires the students to practice the operation in the right methodology. He is a firm believer of Operation excellence which has immensely helped the project to take the path of self-sustainability. Being one of the only few people who have been associated with the team since it's inception, no one understands our vision better than Dr. RSK.

EV-Expo 2018 is the Eco Friendly Electric Vehicle Expo in India, offering comprehensive market information, great business opportunities and a platform for networking. As a part of the networking and PR activities, the team visited the EV-EXPO 2018 held in Bangalore from 21st September, 2018 to 23rd September, 2018. The team interacted with various industry professionals and dignitaries from across the globe, explaining the project and also received their valuable inputs at the same time. ALUMNUS OF THE MONTH Pranjal Tyagi, one of our notable alumni, led X7C from the front. Having belonged to the Chassis subsystem. He was the Chief Engineer of his batch. He has made significant contributions in designing the chassis, for not only his batch, but his juniors' as well. He was the mind-bodyheart and soul behind the designs of Ashwa’s lightest chassis ever. He was the main main driver of X6H and X7C and one of the best drivers in Ashwa's history. His determined, focused and hardworking nature constitute his solid personality. Pranjal's methodical and systematic approach towards the simplest of tasks and situations is what sets him apart from the rest. His discipline of maintaining things in an orderly manner, be it his workspace or even the workshop, has been greatly appreciated by his teammates and juniors. He is lively, energetic and is still close to almost every single member of the X7 team. His attention to detail is one of his major strengths. He developed the modern Suspension geometry of Ashwa Racing, alongside Nidith, his teammate. The Suspension geometry hasn't changed for two years, ever since, which speaks volumes about Pranjal's technical knowledge. batch of 2016 as well. No doubt, he was the most "demanded junior" during his recruitment. Pranjal is well respected by all his juniors and they admire his righteous and courageous nature. He has helped them manufacture the chassis, in driver training and testing. He has given them some really useful tips before all their endurance runs. Respected and loved for the comfort that Pranjal provides in the worst of situations, his problem solving abilities are remarkable. Pranjal’s batch mates accurately referred to him as Duracell - ‘bas chalta rahe’, which translates to something that never burns out. There were times when Pranjal was alone in the workshop and has still taken the car out for testing at 3am to the tracks, all alone; made any minor tweaks that were required and kept testing till the sun was up. The team firmly believes that he filled them with motivation and his relentless efforts has made their dream a pleasent reality. After graduating from Mechanical Engineering in 2017, Pranjal is currently with TAAL Tech and continues to mentor the team. He's been a go-to person in case of any crisis, for his juniors. His never-say-die attitude has played a key role in bringing X7C all the accolades that it has earned so far.
