BFW MANUFACTURING DAY

Established in the year 1961, Bharat Fritz Werner Limited (BFW), now has over 40000 machines in use across the globe and are India’s leading solution provider in the machine tools industry.

The 3rd edition of Manufacturing Day 2018, hosted by BFW saw a staggering response from a variety of companies from the manufacturing world. The event was held in Chennai and it formed a platform to not only highlight the importance of digitization in engineering, but also to showcase and establish the Indian manufacturers on the global map.

The theme this year was “Towards Globally Competitive Indian Manufacturing�, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and a sustainable future. The event commenced with a welcome note delivered by Mr. Ravi Raghavan, the audience were then addressed by the chief guest, Mr. Kamal Bali, followed by a short talk delivered by Ramon Magsaysay award winner, Mr. Sonam Wangchuk.

We at Ashwa Mobility Foundation are extremely thankful to Mr. Prafull and BFW for providing us this opportunity to be a part of the event and to interact with the various dignitaries and receive their valuable input towards the project.

WHAT’s NEW @ WORKSHOP

The month of October has been very fruitful for the team, with the SES report being approved by the judges of the Formula Hybrid 2019 as well as the Project Management Plan being submitted well before the given deadline.

Structural Equivalency Spreadsheet or the SES is an automated spreadsheet which states the materials and the parts that will go onto make the chassis. It shows the strength of the major part of the chassis. www.ashwaracing.com

Project Management Plan reflects the team’s goals and objectives for the competition, the organizational structure and tasks that will be completed to accomplish these objectives.

Also, the assembly phase of both, the combustion and hybrid prototypes, have begun in full swing, and the preparations for Formula Bharat 2019 have begun as well.

KART EVENT

As a part of Ashwa’s tradition, the Kart event was held in the month of October, for the incoming batch of students, for the recruitment process. The kart event is a simulation of an FSAE Event, that gives the team an idea of how the competition takes place. The intent is to give the freshers some early hands on experience and also to give them a feel of the kind of work that lies in store for them, in the coming seasons. The Kart event received an overwhelming response, where the juniors fabricated single seat karts, in groups.

related to their kart. They were also asked to compile a business presentation, that is to be presented before potential investors. Through this hypothetical scenario, the teams were evaluated on the basis of their market strategy and commercial feasibility of their 'venture'. The panel of judges comprised of a few members of the senior team and a few 2nd year team members.

In conclusion, the whole recruitment process gave the freshers a tiny glimpse of how an FSAE team functions , thus bolstering their passion and interest for the project!

Continental Automotive is one such organization. Continental holds a special place in all our hearts, for they have been instrumental in helping us excel and literally, have a car on wheels every year. Our association with Continental began a decade ago, in the year 2008. As Ashwa Racing proceeded towards diversification over the years, from 2014, Continental have been our tyre sponsors for all our prototypes as Continental manufactures tires exclusively for FSAE prototypes.

Tire Dynamics is a rigorous analysis of how the car interacts with the contact surface, the road. It is extremely crucial to perceive tire dynamics, for better understanding of Vehicle dynamics, on the whole and improve the designs accordingly. ALUMNUS OF THE MONTH Pranith Prasanna, affectionately known as Mama by his teammates, belonged to the Brakes and Logistics subsystem.

He was the Head of Logistics in his final year at Ashwa Racing and was also the one responsible for planning out the itineraries for all the events. Wouldn't be inappropriate to say that he was excellent at Event Management.

Pranith accurately understood resource availability and its productive utilization. He was extremely focused and was the best at negotiation. Although he didn't come from a finance background, he was the treasurer of all accounts at Ashwa for event expenditures. Not to forget his social outreach and "contacts," Pranith was quite a popular guy, in and outside Ashwa. He supposedly spoke fluent Italian, with the help of Google translate, at FS-Italy! Speaks volumes about how Pranith takes up toughest of initiatives, to help the team out.

Pranith played a key role in the Business Presentation for his team, which effectively has helped the junior batches with their respective Business Presentations.

He drafted most of the documents and framed strategies. He is well aware of what's to be done, to get the end result right.His focused nature is something to be learnt. His key interest lie in areas related to Financial Markets. Mama understood the courses required for the same and kept working towards his fields of interest.

Jovial and fun loving nature, his uncontrollable laughter which can be rightly correlated to a nuclear fission reaction, his discipline of having vegetarian and "health conscious" food are some of the unforgettable memories that shall always be cherished by the team members.

After graduating from RVCE in 2017, Pranith went on to be the co-founder of bumperwash.com .

BumperWash was started by Pranith and two other Ashwa members. He's currently a stock trader.

We at Ashwa Racing wish Pranith good luck for this venture and all his future endeavors!
