Pre - Season Testing
After months of relentless efforts, the combustion prototype RZ-X8C is finally set to undergo testing - a vital phase before shipping the car to the upcoming events in 2018. Post the photo & video submissions for our first competition of the race season - Fomula Bharat 2018, rigorous testing of the prototype has begun in the college premises, ensuring sleepless nights for the team members. The team hopes to push the prototype to its limits during the critical testing phase thereby identifying the potential of the car’s performance, as well as rectifying the minor glitches that may possibly arise, ensuring that the prototype is relaible and its performance is optimized.

Sansera Engineering is a committed and highly trusted engineering partner offering precision engineered components adhering to the highest standards of excellence and complexity, for some of the leading international & domestic automotive & aerospace manufacturers and OEMs. As a part of the regular Industry instutute partnering activities taken up by the team, professionals of Sansera Engineeing were invited by Ashwa Racing to organize a product seminar in the college on the 3rd of November. Following a brief history of the company, the represenatitive from Sansera went on to provide detailed information about the types of machines used in the company, elaborating on its functioning, technological developments as well as their use in mass production. The seminar proved to be an informative one for the students who attended, providing an insight into the technologies employed in the industry.

An Industrial Visit to AMS Ace Manufacturing Systems Ltd., is one of the largest CNC machine tool builders in India today. The company has expertise in manufacturing of CNC vertical & horizontal machining centers and in providing manufacturing solutions centered around these products. Located in Peenya Industrial Area, the company was started in the year 1994 and has been able to install over 8000 machines locally and globally in total ever since. An Industrial Visit to AMS’s plant was organised on 11.11.2017. The main objective of the industrial visit was to provide students an insight regarding internal working of a manufacturing company. The team was first greeted and addressed by Mr. Nagesh Adiga, the HR head of AMS. After a brief introduction about the history and
the operations of the company, the students headed to the Shop floor, where manufacturing and testing takes place. One of the senior employees walked the team through the basic functioning and testing of every one of the CNC machines on the shop floor. It was a highly interactive session and it helped the students gain practical knowledge about CNC’s. Finally, the team was addressed by Mr. Umesh L S, the CEO of AMS. He long-windedly explained the vision, mission and the work atmosphere of the company. AMS values the depleting natural resources and has endeavoured to conserve them for the future generations. The industrial visit was not only informative, but also taught the team that good work culture and ethics go a long way in establishing a successful industry.

Celebrating Momentum ‘17 Continental AG, also known as Continental, is a leading German automotive manufacturing company specializing in tires, brake systems, interior electronics, automotive safety, power train and chassis components, tachographs, and other parts for the automotive and transportation industries. Continental has been one of Ashwa Racing’s oldest sponsors providing the team with tires for all our prototypes along with invaluable monetary support. The team of Ashwa Racing was invited by Continental to take part in Momentum - an event organised by the company that took place on 14 November 2017 at Continental Automotive Components, Electronic City, Bangalore. The team was provided with a slot to showcase three of our prototypes - the combustion, hybrid and the electric vehicle at the event site which was filled with innovative ideas of automotive display including attractive cars and bikes. Right from basic improvements in automobile subsystems to steps to enhance mobility, like autonomous and connected vehicles’ concept, were portrayed exquisitely. Various dignitaries interacted with the team and we took great pride in presenting Ashwa Racing's legacy; our past, ongoing projects and our future plans. Many visitors and employees showed immense interest in our project.

Manufacturing is more than just putting parts together. It’s coming up with ideas, testing principles and perfecting the engineering as well as final assembly. - James Dyson India Manufacturing Show is the country’s premier trade fair for engineering and related sector companies. It intends to be the catalyst to aculeate the manufacturing sector by bringing together the best talent, the best technologies and the best minds from across the globe while providing excellent marketing opportunities for all its participants. IMS 2017 took place from 30.10.17 till 1.11.17 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. Each one of those days, team members of Ashwa Racing were present at the event, interacting with dignitaries, employees and

representatives of various companies of the engineering sector. IMS was an excellent opportunity for the team to talk to knowledgeable and experienced professionals of the manufacturing industry, elaborating on the work we do at Ashwa Mobility Foundation as well as our aims and future goals. We even had the privilege of exhibiting one of our best prototypes, RZ-X7C, the combustion prototype of the 2017 race season. We thank BIEC and organisers of IMS for giving us this beneficial opportunity of networking with industry professionals.

ALUMNUS OF THE MONTH
Karan Chatrath
was a member of the Engine and Sponsorship subsystem of Ashwa Racing’s first ever hybrid team which fabricated the RZ-X5H and RZ-X6C. In his four years in Ashwa, he worked extensively on the Intake manifold and was actively involved in the design of the onion shaped plenum which increased airflow rate and reduced turbulence. The 3D printed intake manifold, designed and fabricated by him as a part of his major project, was the biggest weight reduction in the engine subsystem in a decade. He also spearheaded the sponsorship team at a critical time when the team decided to diversify into the Hybrid domain. Karan worked selflessly for the team and never left any work untouched. He is often described by his teammates and juniors as a motivating presence inside and outside the workshop who was always willing to share his knowledge, skills and experience on and off the field which helped his juniors grow as better people under him. As the present mentor of the Sponsorship team, he brought order and structure into the team, helping every member maximise their potential. He was extremely encouraging when it came to taking up initiatives and valued everyone’s opinion enabling the team to always arrive at a collective decision. Karan always used his personal experience to help the team avoid mistakes as well as learn from the good decisions taken. His positive and contagious “Can Do” attitude continues to be the most vital ingredient in the day to day functioning of the Sponsorship team. His discipline and perseverance has and will continue to set the standards for many years to come. Thank you Karan for showing us that the will to act is everything.
