FORMULA BHARAT EVENT UPDATE Formula Bharat 2017 came to an end, putting into our pockets a plethora of knowledge and experience. Starting with a rigorous round of technical inspection, we faced a tough scrutiny. Cutting no corners, we cleared TI and went on to pass tilt and noise test in our initial attempts. We came up short in our brake test in the beginning owing to an air leakage in one of the rims. But we pushed the envelope, changed the tires even though the climate seemed to be on the opposite side of our play. Pushing beyond limits, our drivers worked hard on the endurance track in breaking the same car which they had so handsomely engineered. Our RZ-X7C was stretched to it's maximum potential until an issue with the charging circuit put the endurance run to a halt. ' 95 points in Design, 60 points in Business Presentation and 3rd place in Cost event: missing out on the second place by a margin of 6 points'The support provided by RSST, our college, Sponsors and the faculty has been instrumental towards the project.We would also like to thank the alumni who have been with us through our thick and thin. It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.

At Ashwa Racing, we strongly believe in integrating our freshmen into the team at the earliest. We organised a module wise orientation + training program where the freshers were acquainted with the past, present and future of the team. The roles and responsibilities and expectations for every subsystem was clearly explained by none other than the respective module members of the X8H team. Teamwork stands tall as the cornerstone of a successful project, and for achieving the same we conducted various informal ice - breaking sessions that comprised of fun-filled general discussions and games. The juniors were given the task of organising a team bonding trip that was scheduled for the coming week

Kanal Sebastian joined Ashwa in his first year of Engineering and worked on the Vehicle Dynamics of the 2012 car. However, initially he signed up for the engine subsystem because he loved the idea that the engine powered the entire car. He worked hard on studying about the engine throughout his first year. Unfortunately, at the end of first year, his entire suspension team quit. His immediate senior decided to shift him onto suspension. This taught him that sometimes life just deals you a bad hand and you can either choose to make the best of it, or sulk about it. Naturally, he chose to sulk about it.

ALUMNI FOCUS So, he got to work. He started reading up on Vehicle Dynamics and computing multiple iterations at the same time - understanding suspension as a system. Funny enough, the more he studied suspension, the more he realized that it was an infinite puzzle, which is quite natural. There is no one solution to suspension like there is to the other systems. And since he loved puzzles from a very young age he was hooked. According to him, one important aspect that ashwa taught him was crisis management which is basically to ensure keeping cool under pressure. Close to the event, the team was informed that one of their components was not rules-compliant. This would prevent them from competing. They didn't have the resources (time or money) to go through design, manufacturing and testing again. But by staying calm, reasoned discussion with all stakeholders they were able to convince the rule committee that the intent of the rules were met. Saving 2% of yearly budget by just staying calm is quite fascinating, he feels. One important lesson that Kanal had learnt was about failure: "In life, you will fail. Thins will go wrong, sometimes horribly. Sometimes, the hopes of 15 people will come crashing down because of one person. Sometimes, you are that one person. All you can do is - Pick yourself up, get back on your feet and get to work again. You've never really failed until you've given up. Kanal has been a helping hand to all the subsequent batches of ashwa ever since 2012. He has always kept himself available for any work related to ashwa. His friendly nature and structured planning and moreover his funny old stories that he shares with the team, makes him one of the most approachable member of our vast alumni family.
