Plane of Grid + Volumes Project: Recycling Center and Middle School Location: Houston, Texas Institution: The University of Houston, Third Year Program: Revit Located in the lower East side of Houston, Texas, my project provides educational and recycling assistance to the community it's built in. Harrisburg is a low-income community within Houston that's right off Brays and Buffalo Bayou. My project was strategically placed into the already existing infrastructure to help support Harrisburg. The recycling center is open to community members and visitors, and has a range of activities to do there. Education on recycling, presentations, and workshops are all available. The middle school is geared towards recycling technologies and is connected to the recycling center by a thick plane. The idea is that you’re able to experience the recycling center from ground level, as volumes coming down from the plane. Simultaneously, supporting the school, as the volumes pop up from the plane. The mass timber structure acting as this perfect grid to hold it all together.
