La Asociación de Hoteles, restaurantes y Empresas Turísticas del Norte - ASHONORTE-, fue fundada en el año 2001con el propósito de preservar y promover el destino turístico de Puerto Plata y velar por los intereses de sus miembros. Que es CIENAVYT

La comisión Interinstitucional Contra la Explotación Sexual de Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes en Viajes y Turismo (CIENAVYT), es un programa de responsabilidad social que ha estado desarrollando Ashonorte desde diciembre del 2020, en su preocupación por salvaguardar los derechos y la seguridad los más vulnerables de la sociedad; y como un plan para impulsar del desarrollo de un turismo sostenible en el destino Puerto Plata.

Este trabajo se lleva en conjunto con la Fiscalía de Puerto Plata, Mais-Ecpat República Dominicana y la policía turística (POLITUR). El objetivo principal de la comisión es erradicar la explotación sexual en niños, niñas y adolescentes de la provincia de Puerto Plata.

La provincia de Puerto Plata se encuentra ubicada en la costa norte de la República Dominicana. Está compuesta de 9 municipios y 12 distritos municipales. Su municipio cabecera es San Felipe de Puerto Plata. Es también conocida como “La Novia del Atlántico” y “La Tacita de Plata”. Tal como decía uno de nuestros grandes artistas, Juan Lockward, Puerto Plata es sin dudas un pueblo encantado. Disfrutar de la vista de las aguas del océano Atlántico y contemplar la montaña Isabel de Torres, en donde el Cristo Redentor con sus brazos abiertos da la bienvenida a todos los visitantes, es sin dudas un sueño de cuentos de hadas.

Descubierta por el Almirante Cristóbal Colón en 1493, San Felipe de Puerto Plata cuenta con grandes atractivos culturales como es su distintiva arquitectura victoriana exhibida en las casas y edificios de todo el centro histórico y cuyo origen se remonta al siglo XIX con la llegada de inmigrantes ingleses a la ciudad.

Dentro de sus atractivos más destacables encontramos: El parque central con su icónica glorieta, la Fortaleza San Felipe, el teleférico, el Malecón con sus vistosos murales y el anfiteatro, con su imponente vista a orillas del Océano Atlántico.

Cultura LOS TAIMÁSCAROS

Los Taimáscaros son la representación folclórica de Puerto Plata en el carnaval dominicano. Sus originales atuendos recuerdan nuestras raíces taínas en sus caretas y la pertenencia al mar con los caracoles que llevan en sus trajes. Es uno de los grupos carnavalescos más autóctonos del país. Si tienes la oportunidad de visitarnos durante el mes de febrero, no puedes perderte de sus presentaciones!

Artesania

La creatividad del dominicano se pone de manifiesto en su artesanía, utilizando diferentes elementos para crear piezas originales: Coco, piel, tela, barro, cristales, papel y bolsas plásticas recicladas.

Puerto Plata es reconocido por su joyería artesanal, especialmente las creadas con ámbar, Larimar y plata, con las que se realizan una variedad de piezas, tal como anillos, dijes, pulseras, collares y otras similares.

Musica

Cuando de buen ritmo se habla, es obligatorio hablar de la República Dominicana. Merengue, bachata y merengue típico son las expresiones musicales y culturales de los dominicanos. Nuestro pegajoso ritmo es reconocido a nivel mundial, gracias a nuestros embajadores de la música, Juan Luis Guerra, Romeo Santos, Wilfrido Vargas, Fernandito Villalona, Sergio Vargas, entre otros. En el año 2019, la bachata fue reconocida por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Humanidad, un alto honor para nuestro país.

El municipio de Guananico en Puerto Plata, es considerado como la cuna donde se originó la música típica, que en un principio solo incluía los instrumentos de güira, la tambora y el acordeón.

San Felipe

Es uno de los fuertes más antiguos en el hemisferio y ofrece una excelente vista al océano Atlántico. Sus murallas protegieron la colonia española de los piratas ingleses y guarda una interesante historia pues dentro de su fortificación guardó prisión el ilustre Padre de la Patria, Juan Pablo Duarte.

Anfiteatro Puerto Plata. Un maravilloso escenario que cuenta con 22,200 pies cuadrados y cuya estructura puede albergar mas de 4 mil espectadores. Esta situada al pie de la Fortaleza de San Felipe y el Océano Atlántico y desde su inauguración en el año 2017, ha acogido a grandes artistas nacionales e internacionales.

Poseedora de un encantador estilo victoriano y ubicada frente al Parque Central se encuentra Casa de Cultura. En ella se celebran exhibiciones de arte, eventos culturales y conferencias. Si quieres conocer más de la cultura de Puerto Plata, este espacio es un “must”.

En este museo, se expone la vida e historia del General Gregorio Luperón, quien fuera Presidente de la República después de liderar la gesta de la Restauración. Una gran fuente de historia sobre este héroe nacional, mostrada desde el lugar que fuera su casa familiar.

ESCULTURA SUBMARINA

La escultura Atabey, sumergida en las aguas de la bahía de Sosúa, es la escultura submarina mas grande en el Caribe. Cuenta con 16 pies de altura y está hecha de acero y cemento especializado.

Además de ser un atractivo para los turistas que aman el buceo, también será una herramienta para recuperar los corales, tan importantes para la restauración de la biodiversidad marina.

Localizada a unos 25 kilómetros de distancia de Puerto Plata y 6 kilómetros del aeropuerto Gregorio Luperón, se encuentra esta hermosa comunidad, cuyo desarrollo se debe a los más de 700 colonos judíos que se establecieron en esta comunidad a raíz de la percusión de Hitler.

A pasar el tiempo, otros europeos han hecho de Sosúa su hogar, dándole un colorido cultural diferente a esta zona de la isla.

PARQUE NACIONAL Y LAS CUEVAS DE CABARETE.

El Choco

Ubicado a sólo 15 minutos de la playa y el corazón de Cabarete, el Parque Nacional El Choco ofrece un mundo de naturaleza para practicar senderismo, ciclismo de montaña, para nadar en lagunas de agua dulce, y para explorar cuevas. Según el Ministerio de Turismo, cuenta con una extensión de 78 kilómetros cuadrados, el parque tiene un montón de senderos que te llevarán a través de espesos bosques tropicales repletos de árboles de cacao y café, plantas medicinales, y dentro de cuevas, en partes secas y partes llenas de agua, que datan de millones de años. En el camino, podrás ver más de 30 especies de aves, lagartijas y murciélagos. En la entrada del parque encontrarás guías bilingües, si vas por tu cuenta, o también puedes contratar un tour organizado a pie o en bicicleta desde la ciudad.

HISTÓRICALa Isabela

En el Castillo de La Isabela el Almirante Cristóbal Colón fundó la primera colonia en las Américas en 1493. Aquí se celebró la primera misa, en lo que hoy es llamado Templo de Las Américas y se construyó el primer ayuntamiento.

En la actualidad conserva el Parque Nacional donde restos de esta primera colonia son exhibidos junto al área donde se construyó la vivienda del Almirante Colón.

Estero Hondo

Rodeado de una naturaleza virgen se encuentra el Santuario de Mamíferos Marinos en Estero Hondo. Esta área esta estrictamente protegida por la ley, ya que es el hogar de varias especies en peligro de extinción como los manatíes.

Estos animales mamíferos pueden crecer hasta 15 pies de largo y pesar más de 3,000 libras.

CIENAVYT

The Interinstitutional Commission against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Travel and Tourism (CIENAVYT) is a social responsibility program developed by Ashonorte since December 2020. It's main purpose is to protect the rights of the most vulnerable population in our society and develop a sustainable tourism in Puerto Plata.

CIENAVYT is a joint program alongside the Prosecutors office of Puerto Plata, Mais-Ecpat Dominican Republic and TOURISTIC POLICE (POLITUR). Its main objective is to eliminate sexual exploitation in children and adolescents in the province of Puerto Plata.

THE TAIMÁSCAROS

Taimáscaros are a folkloric group that represents Puerto Plata in the Dominican carnival. Their original customs are a reminder of our cultural roots from the Tainos tribe, spanish and african heritage. the shells on the custom represent the Atlantic Ocean. Is one of the most original Carnival representations in the country. If you come to Puerto Plata during the month of February, you will enjoy of their public appearances.

Artcrafting

The creativity of the Dominican people is manifested by the variety of art crafting where the most peculiar elements are used, like: Coconut, glass, fabric, clay, recycled paper and plastic bags. Amber and Larimar are the most used stones in Puerto Plata for artisan jewelry.

Shop for rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins and other similar articles of your preference. You can also buy wood figures and the famous faceless dolls, exclusive dolls that reflect the races in the Dominican heritage: Taina, African and Spanish.

Music

The Dominican Republic is well recognized by its music. Merengue, bachata and merengue típico are the best expression of the music of the Dominican Republic. Guananico, one of Puerto Plata's municipality, is considered to be the place where merengue típico was borned, which originally only had three instruments: guira, accordion and drums.

Atabey is the biggest submarine sculpture in the Caribbean. It is 16 inches tall built with steel and specialized cement. It is submerged in the waters of Sosua Bay to be enjoyed by those who loves scuba diving. The sculpture also serves as a coral reef habitat, restoring the marine biodiversity in the area.

Sosúa

25 kilometers away from Puerto Plata and 6 kilometers from Gregorio Luperón International airport is located the unique and beautiful city of Sosua, full of history and cultural diversity, as a result of the immigration of hundreds of Jews accepted by the Dominican government during Hitler’s prosecution in the year 1940.

Along with this settlement came the development of several businesses that helped flourished the town. Years later other Europeans came to Sosua making it “one of a kind” city in the Dominican Republic.

Many interesting places can be visited in this municipality, like the Jews Heritage Museum, Playa Alicia (formed after 2003 earthquake), Playa Sosúa in Los charamicos, El Batey where you can find most hotels and restaurants, which are very varied and unique due to the diversity of culture in the town. If you rather do more cultural activities you can visit Casa de Arte Sosua or Mundo King castle.

You can also experience Diving, Deep Sea Fishing and coral gardening in the beautiful turquoise color waters of Sosua.

This five story castle is a non-categorize and odd museum, which includes Voodoo masterpieces, extraterrestrial ornaments, and 4 spaceships. Interesting!

CASA DE ARTE SOSÚA

Inaugurated in 2013, Casa de Arte Sosúa offers a variety of exhibits like plastic art and sculpture. They also host art classes for disadvantaged children and youngster in the area.

Cabarete

This municipal district is called the Kitesurfing capital of the World and host famous international championship Master of the Ocean, which includes the categories of Surf, Windsurf, Kitesurf, Stand Up Paddling and Wingfoil.

It is famous for it´s strong waves beaches

and the diversity of bars and nightclubs, preferred by the young public who look for a very active nightlife offer.

It is also the perfect place if you want to learn to surf. Just go to Playa Encuentro where you will find equipment and teachers eager to teach you.

El Choco

NATIONAL PARK AND CUEVAS DE CABARETE.

Located less than 15 minutes from the beach and the heart of Cabarete, El Choco National Park offers a world of nature for hikes, mountain biking, swimming in fresh water lagoons, and cave exploration. Stretching 78 square kilometers (30 square miles), a handful of hiking trails take you through thick tropical forest along cacao and coffee trees, medicinal plants, and into part dry, part water-filled caves dating back millions of years. Along the way you’ll spot over 30 species of birds, lizards, and bats. There are bilingual guides at the entrance if you head to the park solo, or you can sign up for an organized hike or biking tour with an adventure outfitter in town.

HISTORICAL VILLAGE OF La Isabela

El Castillo, La Isabela, is the place where the first city in America was built by Almirant Christopher Columbus in 1493.

The walls of this city witnessed the celebration of the first mass, in the Temple

of the Americas, and the construction of the first City Hall. Nowadays, you can visit the National Park with the archeological remains of that first Spanish colony and the area where Christopher Columbus built his house.

Around a Breathtaking nature is the Manatee National Park, a protected area where you can watch several endanger species like manatees. About 40 of these mammals live in the mangrove swamps waters of Estero Hondo along with wild birds and crustaceous species.

The Manatee is a vegetarian mammal that can grow up to 15 feet and weight up to 3,000 pounds.

This is definitely a place to include in your list if you are an animal and nature lover.
