The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Christmas Eve December 24, 2015 + 7:30 p. m.
Welcome to Trinity A special welcome to those who are visiting; the addition of your praise and thanks to God heartens us all. If you are new to Trinity, please visit the Welcome Table directly across from the main door of the Nave; we would like to get to know you better, and to offer you a gift for being with us today. Restrooms are located directly across from the Nave just outside of Gravely Hall, and a Nursery is available for infants through age five. Please do not hesitate to speak to an usher or any church member if you have any questions or need any assistance.
A note of welcome from our Pastor Merry Christmas! I want to welcome you to Trinity and thank you for sharing this most festive of days with us. In the Christmas story we get a glimpse into the heart of who God is. We see that the Son of God was not willing to hold on to the comforts of heaven if it meant He would lose us. I pray that you know the love of the babe born in Bethlehem not only this Christmas Season, but all year long. We have many wonderful opportunities to get to know Jesus better at Trinity! I hope you will consider joining us in this journey to know the one who has so loved us. In Him, Iain Boyd Rector Trinity Church

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. SALUTATION AND COLLECT OF THE DAY Celebrant: People:
The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God, who hast caused this holy night to shine with the illumination of the true Light: Grant us, we beseech thee, that as we have known the mystery of that Light upon earth, so may we also perfectly enjoy him in heaven; where with thee and the Holy Spirit he liveth and reigneth, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
FIRST LESSON
Isaiah 9:2-4, 6-7 Pew Bible: pg. 573
A reading from the Book of Isaiah. 2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the 4_______
throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this. The Word of the Lord. People:
PSALM
Thanks be to God. Read responsively by half verse.
Psalm 96 BCP pg. 725
1. Sing to the Lord a new song; * sing to the Lord, all the whole earth. 2. Sing to the Lord and bless His Name; * proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. 3. Declare His glory among the nations * and His wonders among all peoples. 4. For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; * He is more to be feared than all gods. 5. As for all the gods of the nations, they are but idols; * but it is the Lord who made the heavens. 6. Oh, the majesty and magnificence of His presence! * Oh, the power and the splendor of His sanctuary! 7. Ascribe to the Lord, you families of the peoples; * ascribe to the Lord honor and power. 8. Ascribe to the Lord the honor due His Name; * bring offerings and come into His courts. 9. Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; * let the whole earth tremble before Him. 10. Tell it out among the nations: “The Lord is King! * He has made the world so firm that it cannot be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity. _______5
11. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea thunder and all that is in it; * let the field be joyful and all that is therein. 12. Then shall all the trees of the wood shout for joy before the Lord when He comes, * when He comes to judge the earth. 13. He will judge the world with righteousness * and the peoples with His truth.

1
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” 15When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

NICENE CREED All:
BCP, PG. 358 We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. At the conclusion of the Creed, please KNEEL as you are able.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Celebrant: Father, we pray for your holy catholic Church; People: That we all may be one. Grant that every member of the church may truly and humbly serve you. That your name may be glorified by all people. 8_______

We pray for Barack, our President, for the men and women of the armed forces, and for their families. We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the world; That there may be justice and peace on the earth. Give us grace to do your will in all that we undertake; That our works may find favor in your sight. We pray also for those who are ill and hospitalized in our parish, for our homebound parishioners and those on our Parish Prayer List. Have compassion on those who suffer from any grief or trouble; That they may be delivered from their distress. Give to the departed eternal rest; Let light perpetual shine upon them. We praise you for your saints who have entered into joy; May we also come to share in your heavenly kingdom. Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. You are invited to offer your petitions either aloud or silently.
