If you did not attend today’s service, and I asked you to guess an anthem text that the choir sang during today’s Choral Eucharist for Palm Sunday, I bet you would be able to answer correctly: “Hosanna, blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord!” That “Hosanna…” text is by the script-- exactly the part we are to play on Palm Sunday as witnesses to the triumphal entry in Luke 19:28-40. Usually at Trinity, and in most liturgical churches, we depart from our Hosannas and dive right in to the Passion of Christ after the Gospel reading on Palm Sunday. The reason behind this was to cater to congregation members who only attend church on Sunday and forgo Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services entirely. This year, we are observing Palm Sunday in our music and preaching as only the Triumphal entry. We are doing this to underline the importance of our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, which play out a part of Christ’s life so important to our faith that it is mentioned in our Creed. So today, enjoy your “Hosannas”, and remember that they are mingled with the suffering of Christ that we are about to recall in this Thursday’s and Friday’s services. We hope to see you there, too! There is one piece of today’s service that contrasts the rest of our repertoire and goes a little bit deeper than, “Hosanna”. Our guest Organist, Neva Handley, is offering a Communion Meditation that is based on the Chorale “Alle Menschen mussen sterben”. The text of this chorale is printed below. I feel that this text captures the hidden emotion behind Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, that is—Christ’s knowing that he was about to die an agonizing death. In the same way, the Chorale text below portrays the Christian’s outlook on death. Fellow singers, doesn’t this remind you of the “All Flesh is Grass” movement of the Brahms Requiem? The reason for this is that both texts are loosely based on 1 Peter 1:24, “For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.” Alle Menschen müßen sterben, alles Fleisch vergeht wie Heu; Was da lebet, muß verderben, soll es anders werden neu. Good Friday March 25th, 2016 9am to 12pm -Prayer Vigil in the Chapel 12:15 pm – Good Friday Service In our traditional Good Friday mid-day service, the St. Augustine Choir will chant Lodovico Viadana’s setting of the Passion according to John and sing John Sanders’ beautiful choral setting of The Reproaches. 6:00 pm – Seven Last Words of Christ Concert The St. Augustine Choir will present Théodore Dubois’ setting of the Seven Last Words of Christ with the choir of St. Andrew’s Church of Myrtle Beach. Easter Day March 27th, 2016 7:45 – Rite I (Chapel) 9:00 – Contemporary Worship 11:00 – Traditional Worship The 11am service will feature the St. Augustine choir, accompanied by the Canterbury Bells Handbell Choir and the High Tide Brass Quintet.

Weekly Announcements Flowers for the Cross on Easter: Flowers for the Cross on Easter: We will be 'flowering' the cross on Easter Sunday prior to the 9am and 11am services. We encourage all children to bring their own flower from home, whether out of your garden or picked up at the store! The more variety, the more beautiful the cross! Easter Lilies: Each Easter our Altar and Chancel are beautifully adorned with lilies. If you would like to contribute to this flower fund, please write a check to Trinity Church with Easter Flowers in the memo or enclose cash in an envelope clearly marked “Easter Flowers”. Be sure to include on a separate piece of paper the name(s) of those in whose memory you are giving. These names will be printed in the Easter bulletin. Mon., March 21st is the deadline for submitting names Seder Supper: Don’t forget the Seder Supper is Wed. March 23rd at 6pm. This is for all ages, $10 for Adults, $4 for Children and $25 for Family.
