Artist Live/Work Project

Project Objective: Develop an existing two-story structure into a functioning and comfortable live/work space for an artist. The project needs to provide both gallery display space as well as studio work space.

Process:

Australian artist Tiff Manuell uses a multitude of colors in her artwork to create layered compositions that draw the viewer in. To create these paintings, she overlaps colors and shapes - which is why I chose to use overlap as concept inspiration for her space.

The gallery overlaps with her family’s living space, expanding on the idea of not separating work and home life, but rather, overlapping it. The gallery is open on both floors, with her artwork on display seen on the ground floor and family photos seen from the top floor, as well as the large format paintings.

The studio overlaps the living space as well, with moveable walls that expand and contract her working space depending on her needs.
