FRO M YO U R P R ES ID ENT Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to our AAHABC Family and Friends. Wishing you happiness at this wonderful time of the year. Thank you to our 2018 Directors who have given so much to our Club during this busy year. Thank you to our exhibitors and supporters who attend our shows and contributed to our success in 2018! We appreciate you. Our AAHABC Supporters, through sponsorships, volunteering and showing made the Region 17 Championship very successful. As a result of our success, we are very pleased to have been awarded the 2019 Region 17 Championships. We will need your support once again so thanking you in advance. The Prize List for both the AAHABC PreShow and the Regional Show should be available in January. In addition to holding the Region 17 PreShow, we will have a concurrent Region 3 Qualifier. We received requests to do this as the Region 3 Championships will be held in Reno in 2019 spiking interest with our club members. We held our Annual General Meeting on November 19th and we are welcoming new Directors. Selena Holowinko, Shelby Preston and Ashley Lauren Toye to the board. In addition, we have Nicole Quinn and Jade Scheu who have volunteered to assist the Club as Alternate Directors. Welcome, ladies! Of course, this means that some of our Directors have stepped down. Thank You to Kimberly Toye for her many years as President and to Leslie Harper for doing

a stellar job of collecting Sponsorships. We appreciate that Gord Leitch has volunteered to continue setting our Dressage Ring, he is a wizard at creating straight lines with our rails! Linda Picul and Tracy Douglas will continue to be involved in our club as well. Susan MacDonald is stepping down and we thank her for her support over the past two years. To our long serving Directors who have agreed to stay on for yet another year, thank you: Berni, Laura, Doug, Joan, Bonnie, Debbie, Maureen and Brenda. A big thank you to Berni who spent countless hours working hard to get our new AAHABC Constitution through the approval process with the Government of BC. No one person can do it all, but together we can. We continue to be very proud of our Club’s exhibitors both at home at our Club Events and at out of province shows during 2018. You are amazing. Please have a look at the results posted in this edition for Sport Horse Nationals/ Nampa, Idaho), Canadian Nationals/ Brandon, Manitoba and US Nationals/ Tulsa/Oklahoma. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All! See you in February in Scottsdale! Nicki Muller, AAHABC President

T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse All the Directors were seated at the table they shared In hopes that their new President would soon be there When outside the White Spot, there arose such a clatter Brenda and Doug sprang from their chairs to see what was the matter When what to their wondering eyes should appear But Santa and Nicki in a sleigh pulled by 8 reindeer Santa hugged them all and said “I know you are tired” From all your work last year BUT now Kimberly’s retired! So cheer up Maureen, Berni, Debbie and Joan She’s not the President any more, she’s probably at home. Snuggling with Martini and Tuxedo while watching TV Drinking a glass of white wine and feeling quite merry We know she worked hard and was bossy-yes that is true But there really was a lot of work for all of us to do! As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly Laura, Bonnie and Ashley Lauren began to cry Then they screamed and shouted and tore out their hair As Shelby and Seleyna looked out the window and saw Kimberly there Away to the windows they flew like a flash Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash They whistled and shouted and called out her name “Go home, stay away, you’re not the boss anymore-rest your brain” The look on Kimberly’s face was a pleasure to see She smiled at us all and shouted with glee I know you’re all tired from your hard work over the years So relax over Christmas and put aside all your fears We now have new Directors full of energy and zip Who will share all the tasks and get them done lickity split A wink of her eye and a twist of her head Soon gave us to know we had nothing to dread “No one can make our club successful all by themselves It was because of you and our sponsors you little elves” Yes, it is true there is a lot to do AAHABC miracles are only possible because of members like YOU! Thank you to each and every one of you for your support though the years Kimberly Toye Past President

THE DECEMBER HICKERSON CLINIC

It was our pleasure to welcome Todd Hickerson to Willow Acres the first weekend of December. Despite a couple very chilly mornings we had sunshine and a wonderful turnout.

Ponasis are working hard this winter. We can’t wait to see the improvements they make and continued sucess they will have in the future.

15 horses were presented to Todd, most of which did two days of sessions. From 8am until the early evenings, he tackled green horses to seasoned show horses, hunter pleasure, western pleasure, country pleasure, show hack, equitation and showmanship. Riders ranged from beginner walk-trot to experienced and everything in between. It was informative and rewarding for everyone who came to watch and ride.

Todd Hickerson: “I truly enjoyed my experience working with such an enthusiastic group! It was extremely rewarding to see the significant improvements we were able to achieve in just a couple days. I look forward to my next visit”

We had a couple out of town visitors, Kelly and Kaitlin Payne, who travelled from Alberta for the weekend. Todd has enjoyed seeing videos and helping Kaitlin further since she has returned home. “She is so enthusuastic, you could tell she just wanted to get home and try all the tricks and techniques on her horse!” Todd explained. Kaitlin and her Arabian gelding, WV

Molly Grobman: “Todd made me a better rider, he taught me new skills and I can’t wait for the next clinic. (And, I had a lot of fun doing showmanship with the magnificent Skip!)” Gillian Fraser: “We had an amazing experience, I learned how valuable it is to help my horse feel confident. Todd also helped find our new horses niche, she’s very versatile and as much as Jenna wanted to show Western, Country is where Pearl is happiest. We can’t wait for the next clinic!”
