Beach House Designers, LLC I’ve been working at Beachtown, Galveston for the in house design firm Beach House Designers LLC for the past two years. Until recently, I’ve been the only designer in the firm, working closely with the developer, builders, interior designers, and architects from across the country who design and have their work in Beachtown. I work on site daily with the builder as my work extends to every facet of the interior, exterior, and relationship with the street. It has enabled me to learn extremely quickly, as my work as immediate and visible consequences there on site. Beachtown presents interesting design challenges, mostly relating to its relationship to its surroundings. On the Gulf coast, FEMA regulations require the buildings to be raised above the Base Flood Elevation. In a mixed use community planned by DPZ, this led to a conversation about how to keep the ground level walkable and inviting when it needed to be completely able to blow out in the event of a storm surge.
