THREADS OF HEALING

The Harlem Park area in Baltimore has a rich history, shaped by significant changes since the 50’s. Originally a thriving, predominantly Black middle-class neighborhood, Harlem Park began to decline in the 60s as urban renewal projects and disinvestment took their toll. One being the “Highway to Nowhere,” an east-west expressway intended to connect downtown Baltimore to the suburbs. Built in the early 1970s, it was only partially completed, displacing over 1,000 families, destroying homes and businesses, and severing communities.

Despite these challenges, West Baltimore remains a community with deep cultural roots, and ongoing efforts continue to focus on improving education, safety, and economic opportunities.

Our goal is to transform this area with Community Land Trust Housing, efficient transportation networks, green revitalization, and arts and culture to reconnect neighborhoods. These efforts aim to heal the historical damage and foster a more vibrant, inclusive future for West Baltimore.

CLINTON HILL LIBRARY

The design is a Library on a site in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. The new library will provide much needed resources for the community, giving the diverse residents with a dynamic place to learn. The design of a public library extends the issues of learning the dynamic structure and economical. This problem involved the creation of a engaging nature spaces to foster a diverse neighborhood public community library.

This ability is accomplished with a series of investigation of the building section and the vertical organization of public and private elements; the grand stair as the connector between the vertical and horizontal circulation and entries, common exterior spaces in the east

side with terraces and gardens. The library also balances out with small outdoor courtyards and atrium to look through at upper floors. It offers a diversity of quiet intersections of private and more open spaces.

I wanted to take a step back and distinguish what makes a community to be together. The relationship of a person to the outside world and neighbors has been simplified to a window and enclosure. My library allows surrounding residents and tourists to interact around this site through an outdoor staircase. The building is to be used to educate the public about sustainable architecture, comprehensive design, respecting the region’s ecology, along with its physical and social environments.

PECCOLI MOBILITY AND TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH

The research conducted in Peccoli, Tuscany Region Italy is currently being used as a way to implement new mobility and transportation to connect both sides of the town. Peccoli is a small town, with a high population of elderyly citizens ages 50+. In the picture above you can see the old town on top of the hill where most of the elderly live, and on the lower half of the town where newer families that have moved into. This bridge has already been constructed, and represents one of the few recedent additions aimed at enhancing the town’s transportation infrastructure.

This improvement research is crucial for ensuring that residents, particularly the elderly, have convenient access to essential services, medical facilities, and social

activities. Working alongside the Mayor of Peccoli, incorporating eco-friendly transportation options or adopting green technologies was a priority to minimize the environmental impact of mobility solutions.

The overall goal of Peccoli’s mobility and transportation infrastructure improvements is to reflect a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents, with a focus on providing accessible, convenient, and sustainable transportation options for both its elderly and newer generations.

BIM- Rebuilding Casa 39

The Construction Aid Drawings class goal is to the ability to make technically clear drawings, write outline specifications, and prepare models illustrating and identifying the assembly of materials, systems, and component appropriate for a building design. To organize forms of construction documentation, I needed to employ current techniques of contract document production with Building Information Modeling (BIM). Lectures and readings also surveyed the legal context of these documents. I had to prepare and edit construction drawings, assembly details, door/window schedules, coordinated specifications, etc.

Taking the time and many lectures and tutorials, I was able to begin working with the new software, Revit. Learning this ability further enhanced my architectural skills to be able to produce better and further advanced studio projects for my upcoming years. The rebuilding of this project included the 3D modeling of Casa 39 from dimensions provided from the site plans I researched. As well as the detail wall sections, construction plans, 3D perspective, interior and exterior elevations, and building sections I was able to design from scratch to exceed the standards of rebuilding an already beautiful project.

CROWN HEIGHTS COMMUNITY CENTER

The design is a Community Center on a site in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. The new community center will provide much needed resources for the community, giving the diverse residents with a dynamic place to meet. The design of a public center extends the issues explored in the Gym Charette Project. This problem involved the creation of multiple buildings to foster a diverse neighborhood public community space.

This ability is accomplished with a series of investigation of the building section and the vertical organization of public and private elements; the grand stair as the connector between the vertical and horizontal circulation and entries, common exterior spaces in

the south side with terraces and roof gardens. The community center also balances out with a gymnasium building and theater space. It offers a diversity of quiet intersections of private and public spaces.

I wanted to take a step back and distinguish what makes a community to be together. The relationship of a tenant to the outside world and neighbors has been simplified to a window and enclosure. My community center allows surrounding residents and tourists to interact all around this site through a threshold. The courtyard in the center intertwines the three buildings to bring people together. From the many surrounding pathways, sports fields, theater and gymnasium there is so much one person can experience.

Independent Project

GREENVILLE

The residential housing structure was a development included the integration of structural design and environmental systems passive designs.

This semester’s project of residential housing involved the design of dwelling and multiple dwellings, to explore what we often consider to be the private realm. The goal was to design housing with public retail spaces, common areas, organization and orientation of these residential spaces. The passive designs were considered in relation to the Greenville multi-family housing project proposal.
