Town manager Josh Farrar presented his recommended budget for FY2023 to council members and attendees last week.

Town manager Josh Farrar presented a recommended budget for fiscal year (FY) 2023 last week that aims to make historic investments in capital projects while maintaining a balanced budget. The overarching goals of his recommended budget include incorporating available American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds into the budget in order to free up local dollars; strategic one-time use of the town’s Unassigned Fund balance to invest in major capital projects; retaining town staff in an increasingly competitive

market, and improving community connectivity in Ashland. “I am happy to say we will accomplish all of these goals,” Farrar said. The town manager presented an overview of the FY2023 recommended budget’s environment, including positive trends in local government revenue. The FY2023 recommended budget predicts meals tax collection by the end of the current year and FY2023 to display “record years for collections” and for lodging taxes to exceed prior year highs, which is partly due to COVID-19 restrictions lifting and a higher number of families see FY2023, pg. 4
