During the global pandemic, our local community can focus on its long-term economic development.

The global economy is forever changed in unforeseen ways due to COVID-19.
Our community’s economic development depends upon businesses’ successful transition to the post-COVID economy. We are fortunate that the Ashland economy was in an upward trend before the pandemic.
To enable future growth, the community must act to stabilize local businesses.
Downtown Ashland Association supports the Town of Ashland dedicating federal recovery funding to provide small business grants up to $10,000 for purposes of both recovery and innovation, including protective equipment, safety enhancement, technology, e-commerce, supplies, and other expenses.
We stand ready to help Ashland businesses undertake the challenge by providing business training and technical assistance, utilizing a Community Development Block Grant.
We appreciate the Town of Ashland’s attention to these issues, and look forward to enhancing our partnership as we continue to work together through this extraordinary

Letter stirs sharing history questions
This is my response to a letter published by your paper written by Michael Ludwig.
With all due respect to Mr. Ludwig, his admission that he was a veteran teacher of 40 years only solidifies my suspicion that public schools or schools in the last 40 years have barely taught any history of the Civil War or War Between the States.
Mr. Ludwig seems, from what I read in his letter, has an edited/perverted revision of history. Sir, how can you profess to be credible when you don’t give a full account of history?
History is not a subjective science, sir; history is documented evidence that is objective and not subjective.
Math and history are not up for interpretation, sir; you should know that as a 40-year veteran teacher.
Mr. Ludwig brought up Ulrich B. Philips. Mr. Philips taught history as a man of the 19th century South.
Mr. Ludwig, people don’t think like that and have not
have the ballot drop box open to received returned ballots. This is for those voters who would prefer to drop it off rather than mail to Smithson’s office.
“The drop box area is under surveillance at all times,” she added.
The Voting Center will be open starting Tuesday, Sept. 18, and until Saturday, Oct. 31, for in-person early voting in the Wickham building at the County Complex.
“Our hours are Monday thought like that since the time he was teaching. As a historian, a full explanation of history is needed to define what happened and why.
A teacher does horrific damage to a young student’s mind when the teacher will cherry-pick subjects of history and then revise it to reflect their personal belief on what happened.
As the father of two sons, and the youngest is 31 years old, I have seen first-hand the damage caused by teachers like you teaching or completely eliminating this time in history and teachers just making crap up because the kids won’t be tested on the Civil War history but will only be taught white people are bad.
The complete picture is this and I hope you told your students, nobody wanted blacks around. The North said they hated slavery but they had no plans to free them.
The amount of people that wanted free slaves to wander free within the United States was almost non-existent.
John Brown couldn’t even talk Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas into joining his group to overtake the armory in Harpers Ferry.
You also fail to mention that many in the North, including Abraham Lincoln, wanted to colonize all blacks back in Africa.

On Election Day, Smithson said all county polling precinct will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
“If you are unsure of your voter registration status, please visit the Department of Elections website to check,” she said. “You can register to vote, update your voter information and even request an absentee ballot: https://www.elections. virginia.gov/registration/.” is Monrovia, named after President James Monroe. This country was established as the future colony for former slaves. This was not a popular idea with slaves because many that went came back because they were dying of diseases and they didn’t want to go back to the jungle. This is a very important fact in history.
When you revise history and portray it as a living hell for all the slaves, you’re not telling the truth in that some blacks looked at the USA as their country too and they didn’t want to leave family and friends and they wanted to see success in the country overall.
The mentality of people in that time period was nowhere what it is today so you can’t use the arguments of today using the same mindset as yesterday or use the same mindset of that time because we have evolved to a much more educated people.
I am new to Hanover County as well but I would never suggest as a newcomer to this county, to alter their past to appease me.
History will never go away regardless of how you teach it and everyone knows that. So your argument that the names are destroying the minds of black kids is nonsense and you and the NAACP have no evidence at all to reflect your “concerns.”
I have lived here for about a year and six months and I have witnessed first-hand a black
