SHLAND – Ashland resident and business owner Kathy Abbott has announced her candidacy for Ashland Town Council. She said she has been an active volunteer and community participant since moving to the town in 2003. “My website development company is successful because I help other small businesses, mostly here in Ashland. Over the last decade, I’ve gotten to
know many of our local companies and organizations. I believe I have a unique perspective on their challenges, their needs and how the town may be able to support them further.” Abbott said she is a familiar face around Town Hall, having worked with the staff on various marketing and design projects. She is a member of the Ashland Citizen’s Leadership Academy, a program offered by town staff to provide an in-depth look at individual departments and management. Abbott volunteers for cultural and community initiatives,

including the Ashland Musical Variety Show, the Ashland Main Street Association and efforts to revitalize the Ashland
Theater. A PTA president and board member, Abbott served on an education advocacy board and a Hanover County School Board special committee that studied career and technical education and school boundary adjustments. “Fiscal responsibility and financial viability are key to preserving Ashland’s small town character and ensuring its future. But what’s really exciting is the extraordinary level of civic participation in recent years. Now is the time to harness that energy and work
together to create more community-building events, extend bridges across neighborhoods and organizations, find new ways to help struggling citizens and businesses, and fulfill Ashland’s potential as a great regional and tourist destination.” Abbott is president of Abbott Media Productions, a website/marketing/video production firm. Her husband Alan has served on the Ashland Planning Commission for the last eight years. Their three daughters attend Hanover County Public Schools.
