Long-time Beaverdam District representative Aubrey “Bucky” Stanley took the reins from outgoing chairman Wayne Hazzard, South Anna, at the board’s first meeting of the New Year last Wednesday. After 33 years of service to the county as a supervisor, Stanley accepted the latest appointment, his fifth as chairman, with his usual brand of seriousness and public responsibility tinged with light-hearted humor. “I’m starting my 33rd year as a Hanover County board member, and I assure you I will not be here 33 more years,” Stanley joked. “I’m honored

SHLAND — After 17 rounds, a seventh grader from Oak Knoll Middle School secured the first place title at the 2016 Hanover County Public Schools Division Spelling Bee. Delaney Cotton won the competition by correctly spelling the word “jurisdiction.” Mack Turner, a fifth grader from South Anna Elementary School, incorrectly spelled the word “effusive” and came in second place.
