A Registered Master Builder oers you: • A proven track record in building and business • Master Build Guarantees on residential work with a contract price of $25,000 or more

• Full support and backup from the member's local RMB Association and the national Registered Master Builders Federation When engaging a Registered Master Builder for a new home or for alterations and additions work (whether built under a full contract or a labour only contract) a Master Build Guarantee covering loss of deposit, non-completion of the work, defective workmanship and defective materials, will be oered by the Registered Master Builder (conditions apply). It is important to talk to your builder about what the standard guarantee covers in detail, to protect you against loss of deposit, non-completion, defective workmanship, rot and structural defects or if your builder is unable or unwilling to put things right.

The Master Build Guarantees give you added peace of mind just in case things end up out of your control, and there are dierent levels of 10 year guarantees available. Discuss with your builder which of the 10 year guarantees best suit your requirements, specific to your individual build.

One of the more fascinating areas is the addition of fibres, which in some cases can be used instead of steel reinforcing, saving you money on your building project.

Microfibre Microfibre is available in various lengths and thicknesses for different uses. It is a great addition to any concrete project, from industrial floors to decorative exposed aggregate concrete. Their main purpose is to reduce the likelihood of shrinkage related problems that can occur as the concrete is curing, such as cracking. It also has the potential to add some wear strength to the surface of the concrete.

Macrofibres

Macrofibres are a newer type of fibre that are starting to be used more in the New Zealand concrete scene. These are available in various lengths and thicknesses to suit particular jobs.

The biggest advantage of macrofibre is its ability to replace non-structural steel in concrete slabs.

Whilst the structural reinforcing bar must still be included in foundations, and wherever else specified, macrofibre can be a direct replacement for the traditional steel mesh used to reinforce concrete slabs.

This can have substantial benefits to the end user of the concrete. It eliminates the cost of the steel and the cost of the actual installation of the mesh, which can take a lot of time placing, tying and putting risers under the mesh.

With macrofibre being distributed evenly throughout the concrete it also eliminates the problems associated with steel mesh not being correctly positioned in the slab to be effective.

Bradford Building Ltd has somewhat modestly been going about its construction business for two generations and is one of Canterbury’s longest-serving building companies. With a reputation for high quality, technical innovation and sheer hard work, the company plays a well-deserved major role in the construction industry locally and in the upcoming rebuild of the Christchurch.

They have been instrumental in promoting the work they have been carrying out locally not only in the commercial but also in the residential sector. When it comes to winning awards Bradfords have been up there with the best in the Country in the yearly House of the Year Competition. Bradford’s achievements in the above competition are, but not limited to the National Supreme Award in 1995 for the Mt Somers Station Homestead and awarded the very first National Supreme Commercial Award in 2004 for the Ashburton Club & MSA project, along with a large number of local Supreme Awards for both residential and commercial projects.

In 1945, Mr Arch Bradford returned from World War 2 and joined Mr Alec Reddecliffe, a local Ashburton builder, in partnership.

They incorporated in 1950 under the name of Reddicliffe and Bradford Limited. Alec Reddicliffe retired in 1951 and Arch Bradford bought out his share of the business. The growing company’s name was changed in 1958 to Bradford Construction Limited.

and son of Arch, was apprenticed with the company in 1965 while also studying parttime. He was awarded a bursary in 1972 and spent the next two years in the UK gaining knowledge and experience in the industry. His experiences were to influence the direction of the company. On Rodger’s return to New Zealand, Arch chose semi-retirement and appointed Rodger as General Manager of Bradford Construction to handle the big industry change caused by the adoption of metric measurement. The business adapted and continued to grow, adding new trade divisions over the next few years. He also served as National President of the Registered Master Builders for one term and is also a Fellow Member of the New Zealand Institute of Building

Bradford’s was restructured in the late nineties, to better measure performance of the various trading divisions, and to focus the staff of each on their particular area of expertise. Four new ‘stand alone’ trading companies were formed and each competing in the market for its own work. To better allow each to focus on the ‘process of operations, people and profitability’ it was decided to form a separate company that, with its resources, could afford to employ specialist staff to provide day-to-day office and administrative functions for all.

Bradford Building Ltd has grown from strength to strength since its inception in the late nineties and has completed a number of notable residential and commercial projects to a very high industry standard.
