Has common sense gone out the door? depending how it’s delivered.
In the real estate industry today, agents are expected to brief all visitors to the properties they are showing any hazards they may encounter. Fair enough you say, but wait there’s more. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, real estate agents must treat their own cars (if they have a customer in it) and their clients’ homes as a workplace and comply with the act. Again, fair enough, however, there seems to be an over-reaction by some agencies and agents interpreting the act.

The agent then points out the hazards, loose floor mats, steps, holding on to stair handrails and floor tiles may be slippery in wet conditions. Hang on a minute, I’m a middle-aged responsible person, these socalled hazards are everyday hazards in any home in any country on this and any other habituated planet in our solar system and beyond more than likely. There can be good reasons for pointing out steps, such as in areas that have poor lighting. Then plant the divided crowns into a moist, composted soil in a sunny and welldrained area. You’ll probably need to do this every three or four years.
Get your roses ready for rose pruning. Before you prune, spray your roses with lime sulphur – this knocks off all the leaves and sends them into a dormant state. It also gets rid of diseases like rust, scale and black spot. Once you’ve given your roses a light prune with secateurs – give your trees, including fruit varieties, a prune as well. Don’t forget your strawberry patch will need some attention too. Now’s the time to divide your strawberry plants and remove the runners. Your main plant won’t fruit forever so it’s important for it to grow new plants to keep producing a fresh supply of fruit. But it’s equally as important to remove the surplus runners/ new plants so they don’t compete for nutrients from the soil with your main patch. Here’s how to do it: split your strawberries and keep the new plant off the runner (the little stems running off that go on to make new plants) closest to your main clump. Remove the other runners and

Using these measurements cut the window insulation film to size using sharp scissors. • Remove the backing from double-sided tape. • Apply the window film to the double sided tape, stretching out as many wrinkles as you can. You can then go back around and stretch further but don’t worry if there are a few little wrinkles left. • Take a hair drier and wave it over the film to heat it up, this causes the film to shrink and removes any remaining wrinkles. This should only take around 30 seconds. Stop once the film is taut. • Tidy up any scrappy edges of film by trimming with a pair of scissors.

Wrap any exposed hot water pipes with foam lagging. Simply cut the foam to length and slip them over the pipes. If your hot water cylinder is running efficiently, it should be cool to touch. If it’s warm to touch this is an indication that it’s old and possibly needs replacing. In the meanwhile, a hot water cylinder wrap is a good solution. These insulate the cylinder reducing the amount of energy they use. Simply wrap the insulation, foil side out around the cylinder and then use foil tape to seal up the join. Do not wrap gas hot water cylinders. In colder parts of the country wrapping your cold water pipes can help prevent them from freezing.
